Thank you so much for all the kind donations of boxes and cardboard Ā for our junk modelling area. We decided to have a look in our Cardboard Creations book for some inspiration! Ā Ā We loved the patchwork houses in our book and decided we would make some of our own!

We discussed what resources we would need and decided on:
āglue to stick things onā
ācardboard or boxes to make the houseā
āscissors to cut thingsā.
āpens to draw windows and a door to get inā
āmaterial, coloured paper and buttons to stick onā

We worked together to collect our resources and shared our thoughts on why we had chosen them.
āIām choosing pink, itās my favourite colourā.
āMy favourite is redā.
āmy favourite is red tooā.
It was a bit tricky to cut the cardboard so we decided it would be safer if an adult used bigger scissors to cut it for us. Ā Using our smaller scissors helped us develop our fine motor skills, through cutting our paper, ribbon and wool.

Next it was time to design our house! We demonstratedĀ excellent mark making and writing skills by adding our own features to our houses.
āIām drawing windows. We need them up at the top, and at the bottomā.
āIām drawing a door so we can get in and outā.
āI need a chimney, it goes on the top on the roofā.
āIām writing number 23, thatās the same as my houseā.

It was lots of fun choosing different materials to glue onto our houses. We used our knowledge to describe our materials and explain why we had chosen them.
āI like this one, it looks like a picnic blanket!ā
āI like the pink one. Itās shiny and smoothā.
āThe green one is like a tree, itās fluffyā.
āThe ribbon looks like a tractor wheelā.
āThis one is black and white and it has flowers on itā.
āI love the blue one, itās bumpy and has sparkles on itā.
āIām putting buttons on. I like the coloursā.

The glue on our houses was still a bit wet, so we decided to put them up to dry. When we put all our houses together, we decided it looked like āa wee village!ā

It was so much fun making our houses and we canāt wait to see what else we can create!
