We’re going on an autumn hunt 🌱🌿🍂🍁

The toddlers decided to go for a walk and to keep ourselves safe we had a chat about our safety rules, holding hands and listening to the adults. As we were crossing a road, we had to be extra careful to look and listen at the side of the road.

On our walk we had to look up, down and all around. We looked at all the autumn colours of the leaves and we collected the leaves that had fallen on the ground in our special bags. We listened to the birds and saw a squirrel but it was too fast for us to take a photo 😁

After we collected our leaves we played hide and seek, had some races and saw a most interesting van that came off its back wheels and stretched nearly to the moon 😳

We then brought all our autumn goodies back to nursery where the children enjoyed decorating their autumn bags with their leaves. Some chose to paint and we shared them with our friends who may not have been able to come on our walk. We transferred our leaves to the playdough where the children were leaf printing.

Autumn is here and is providing glorious colours, textures, temperatures for us all to enjoy 😁

Birdies come visit our garden ……. please 🤞

The children were looking up at the birds wanting them to come down and play with us in our garden, but what would they like?

We talked about asking them to come for a breakfast, but what do they eat? We investigated through use of technology, and discovered they like fat balls made from lard and seeds.  Gail popped to the shops. We had a wee look at the seeds and lard…. YUCK the children said they much preferred their weetabix!!!

We all had turns of putting the seeds in the lard and giving it a good mix, we were all glad we had had a good breakfast as it was hard to mix the lard and seeds together. We then put them in cups with wool and put in the fridge to cool. We will hang them outside for the birds tomorrow!

A little update our cress is starting to grow!

We are all looking forward to welcoming more wildlife into our garden and growing some homegrown produce that we can enjoy both here and at home 😁

From earth to table snack today!!!🥕🥕🥕

The toddlers have been growing vegetables in our garden. We have been watering  them regularly and today we were able to harvest them! We enjoyed some delicious toddler grown snacks including carrots and  spring onion,  with a potato to take home for later.

We firstly picked our carrots, spring onions and potatoes.

Then we washed the soil off.

Finally after working so hard today, we enjoyed tasting our Cart Mill grown vegetables at snack time.

The children have been learning where our food comes from and it was nice to be able to learn and share together. 😀

Fruit skewers anyone…..

In the toddlers today we decided to make fruit skewers today. We were able to focus on colours, patterns, taste, numeracy as well as developing our fine motor skills.

Firstly, we washed our fruit

We picked from a selection of strawberries, apples, grapes and bananas

We used our fingers to carefully thread the fruit onto our skewers creating patterns

It can be quite tricky but we all persevered

The fruit is very tasty

Happy children enjoying their snack 😁

Bike wash at Cartmill

The boys wanted to wash their bikes as they were a little dirty!

We washed the top of the bike and underneath giving them a thorough wash.

We washed all the soap off!!!

We were so good at it we diversified to cleaning the chairs as well.

What a great job you did today boys, working together, taking turns, being responsible and looking after our nursery equipment……..thank you 👍

Exploring with shells…..paint, sand and water😁

Gail was at the beach over the weekend and collected some shells for the toddlers to explore 👁

We printed with the shells investigating the different sizes and textures of the shells.

We used a variety of resources to create designs

We listened very hard to try and hear the ocean

We transferred the shells into the water to play with, also to clean our shells

We made sandcastles and decorated them with shells….how pretty

What a lot of fun we had today 🥰

Anyone fancy a game of skittles…….?????

Today in the toddler room we decided to have a game of skittles. We all played together, taking turns and challenging ourselves by using different sized balls, discovering whether that would make it easier or harder and keeping note of how many pins we had knocked down.

We started off with a football but that was easy peasy!!!

We changed to a medium sized ball and this made it harder, so we came a little closer to the pins.

We then tried with a even smaller ball but that was sooooo hard.

We counted the pins we had knocked down

And took turns noting down how many we had knocked down 😁

Guess who came to visit us in the toddler room today?

Bookbug came to see us today, we sang The Hallo song to him.

We read a story ‘That’s not my bunny’

We bounced some toys on the Lycra whilst singing our favourite nursery rhymes, Humpty Dumpty and Baa baa black sheep.

Bookbug had a sneaky turn on our slide

He played hide and seek with his friends

He even joined us for a healthy snack

It was lovely having Bookbug in toddlers today, we all enjoyed seeing him and hope he comes back soon 😁

Some things roll and some things don’t!!!

Today in the toddlers we were exploring the garden investigating items that rolled down the plank.

Some items rolled a little

Some items rolled a lot

It’s good to take turns and work together and work together to problem solve. The children in the toddler room love to explore their curiosity and explore new experiences.
It takes a lot of practice but the toddlers were engaged in their experience 😁
