Introducing helicopter stories šŸš

Helicopter stories allows children to become familiar with the role of being an author, illustrator, actor, character, audience and performing.

The start of the process is to use their imagination to think of their story and support can be given to scribe, introducing the concept of being an author and ā€˜writingā€™ their own story.

Next follows the role of becoming the ā€˜illustratorā€™ creating a picture to go along with their storyā€¦.developing their mark making skills.

Next we have to move the furniture and create our stage for the children to perform, introducing the concept of a stage and where the audience should sit to support and watch their friends perform.

As the children perform, we can introduce the concept of characters and their friends are there as the audience,Ā  if they need any help and support telling their story.

This is a story about ā€˜A crabby crabā€™

This is a performance about a ā€˜turtleā€™

Children are excited to create their stories and gain confidence in performing for their friends. We can change the process slightly for our younger children. Ā We are developing our literacy skills and using our imaginations to create wonderful stories šŸ„°šŸ„°šŸ„°

Helicopter Stories šŸš

Today in the story corner the children have been creating their own stories! We sat together as a group and went Ā round the circle, each child adding onto the story, there was lots of fun and giggles.Ā

ā€œThere was a dinosaur then a bumble bee.ā€

After creating the fabulous story the children had lots of fun being illustrators. āœļø

ā€œIā€™m drawing the fire engine.ā€
ā€œIā€™m going to draw the dinosaur, he is a giant.ā€
ā€œLook at my bumble bee.ā€

Here is a look at the childrenā€™s fantastic imaginative story and drawings.

Taking part in helicopter stories gives the children the freedom to create the story in the way they want too. Itā€™s a great way to build literacy skills, develop emotional and social skills, explore and extend the childrenā€™s learning all while having lots of fun.Ā

Helicopter stories šŸš

Today, the children had so much fun exploring their imagination and creating helicopter stories. Firstly, we worked together as a team suggesting ideas for our story outline. and we came up with a space theme šŸŒŽ

ā€œthe spaceship and the rocket are crashing into each otherā€

ā€itā€™s a person in the rocketā€

Next, we put our thinking caps on and decided on what roles we would act out and put our story into action!

The children all had different ideas for their helicopter stories, some of the suggestions were:

ā€œThe chocolate brownie stands up in spaceā€

ā€Iā€™m the rocketā€

ā€it exploded when it crashed at the doorā€

ā€the alien fell down with a Big Bangā€

After creating our story we illustrated our characters. Great work everyone šŸ‘

Hereā€™s a look at the childrenā€™s fab imaginative story!
