GIRFEC – Getting it right for every child

Getting it right for every child (GIRFEC) is a commitment to provide all children and their families with the correct support at the correct time. This is to ensure that every child in Scotland can reach their full potential.

Children should all be able to live in a society that is equal which enables them to flourish, be treated with kindness, dignity and respect, and have their rights upheld at all times.

Within Cart Mill, we want to work together with our children, families, organisations and the wider community to make our family centre the best place to grow and learn. Through GIRFEC, we will work together, with you, our families, to build the scaffolding of support that children need to grow up being respected, loved and safe.

GIRFEC provides us with a consistent framework and shared language for promoting, supporting, and safeguarding the wellbeing of children and young people. It is locally embedded and positively embraced by organisations, services and practitioners across Children’s Services Planning Partnerships, with a focus on changing culture, systems and practice for the benefit of babies, infants, children, young people and their families (Scottish Government, 2006).

East Renfrewshire Council offers a wealth of information on meeting learners needs and getting it right for every child. Please click on the link below for more information or ask any member of the Cart Mill team.
