Thursday is for muddy movers fun 😁

Today the children helped to create and set up two separate obstacle courses  suitable for the different ages and stages of the children at Cart Mill. The obstacle courses that we set up in the garden are an excellent way for our children to develop their gross motor skills.

The children carried out their own risk assessment to make sure that the loose parts were used safely. We used questions such as is it to high to climb,  Will I slip? How can we set up the wooden planks so they are safe to balance on?  Take a look at the fantastic creation we made!

Using the loose parts provided the children decided that they would have two different sized jumps at the end of their obstacle course. A high jump using 3 boxes and a smaller jump using 2.  Our children our developing so much confidence and showing progression all the time.

Some of our younger waned to explore the larger course and were able to ask for help when they required.  The adults were able to support and encourage them as they moved across the wooden planks is different ways.  Some were crawling, walking and sliding along.  They demonstrated they could as they jumped from the boxes holding an adults hand.

Today We Were Puffy Painting 🎨

Today the children decided they would like to try making puffy paint which was a lovely sensory experience for them. Puffy paint is unique because it dries raised with a three dimensional texture. Working with the puffy paint requires a level of precision and control, helping improve their fine motor skills. The children were able to squeeze, spread, mix and decorate using their hand eye coordination. The children were loved this arty experience. The ingredients we used were.

PVA glue, shaving foam and paint.

“I’m making my puffy paint pink so I’m only putting a little red in”

“I’m making mine yellow, I’m only putting a little glue in”

“It feels like slime, and is so soft” Mmm the shaving foam smells nice”

“I’m going to paint a rainbow with all the colours I made” “I need to mix everything in”

Some of the children enjoyed mark making in the foam. “It’s wet and sticky” “ look at my hand prints they are blue”  “ I wrote an A in the foam because it’s at the start of my name”

We are going to look at other types of paint we can make, who knows what we will come up with!

Some of our Piet Mondrian inspired Art work 🎨😃

In the studio we are studying artists that used pattern in their art work. Piet Mondrian was a Dutch painter he specialised in geometric abstract art works using primary colours.  We looked at images of Mondrians paintings using red, blue and yellow shapes. Some of the children were able to identify the shapes and colours.
The children were encouraged to use a range of materials and ways to represent their ideas involving simple shapes and primary colours. Some were able to use Duplo to recreate a 3D version of a painting. “ I’m using red, yellow, blue and white blocks but I don’t have any black , They are rectangle and square shapes” She then moved on to printing with the Duplo using primary colours.

Another child made a collage and cut out red yellow white blue and black felt. “It’s hard to cut the shapes out but I can do it myself, I think it looks really good“

The children were all deeply engaged in creating their master pieces and I think you will agree they all look amazing.  Well done everyone 😍

Creative Art inspired by famous artists 🥰

Today we studied some artists that use repetition and pattern in their art work.  For example Gustav Klimt, The tree of life,  Andy Warhol, and his Marilyn Monroe print. Yayoi Kusama is one of the most famous pattern artists of today she used semi circle brushstrokes to create  lace like patterns  to cover her canvas and imply an expansion into infinity. Looking and talking about these amazing artists inspired  some of the children to create their very own works of art using pattern.  The children self selected their own paint and resources we even tried acrylic paint which  we found out can be very messy. 😂

“I know the names of all these shapes, Im going to put the colours and shapes into the pattern” ”Mine is like a lace pattern “ “ I think the colours on my painting are lovely “

“I’m going to make a shape pattern “ “ I’m choosing a star to start “ I’m going to paint with the pom-poms” “ They make circle marks”

Some of the children chose to stick their shapes down to make a pattern and then paint over the top others did free style patterns and prints.

“ The string is tricky to get off” “ I’m cutting the ribbon to make stripes on my canvas” “I love my painting “

“ I’m wrapping string around mine to make it stripy” “ I’m putting lots of different sized circles on my canvas, like Kandinsky “
The children’s canvas paintings are beautiful well done everyone I think they are so good that we should display them in the studio.

It’s a strawberry muffin kinda day at Cart Mill 🍓😁

The Children decided today that they would like to bake strawberry muffins.

They were able to follow my instructions to make their yummy muffins. “ 1,2,3 I have put my three scoops of flour in” “ flour is quite messy it goes everywhere “

” The strawberry (dairy free) yogurt smells lovely, It’s my favourite “ “ Im putting in 4 tablespoons so it’s extra strawberryish”

The children looked to see what other ingredients they could add to their muffins and found some cherries in the fridge. “These cherries will make our muffins extra tasty “  They used their fantastic hand eye coordination and fine motor skills to slice them up. “Im slicing mine in half”

They helped each other to spoon the mixture into cases. “ We made 12 muffins”  “ I think we could share our strawberry muffins at snack

““

Good job everyone they were super tasty 😋

Summer fun🎈Afternoon Tea at Cart Mill 🍓

The children led this blog and narrated as they went – enjoy their own words!
On a nature walk the children noticed that the bushes across from the nursery have raspberries on them.  “ Can we pick some and make something with them” “ I love raspberries “ “ The strawberries in the garden are ready to we could make some jam and put it onto scones “

“These strawberries aren’t very big” “ Bet they still taste good though” “We need to wash our strawberries and raspberries “

” We need to mash the fruit up, I think a fork would be best for mashing “ “ The strawberries and raspberries smell really good” “ I’m going to mash up 5 strawberries and 3 raspberries because I like strawberries the best”

“ Lets carefully measure out the ingredients so our scones are tasty” “Don’t put to much baking powder in or it will taste horrible, I think half a teaspoon is fine “

is
“let’s cut our scones out,we need the special scone cutter and we need to use the rolling pin , to make it flat”” mine is a bit sticky”

”I think 11 minutes will be enough “ ” I don’t want mine to burn”

” Mmmm my scone tastes yummy “ “ I’m only putting a little jam on mine”  “ we better wash our dishes”

Great team work the scones tasted amazing and you even washed the dishes. 🤩

”chop,chop”

We cooked the rhubarb in the microwave till it was soft. “ It smells lovely”

“ We need to put in two scoops of flour and measure out 100 milligrams of soya milk”” Don’t forget the sugar, just one scoop” “To much sugar isn’t good for your teeth”” If your mixture is to wet you need to add more flour”

“We need to cook our muffins in the oven, set the timer for 11 minutes .  “ Let’s write our names on labels so we know what muffins are ours” “ I’m excited to eat mine, I wonder if I will be able to taste the rhubarb, “I haven’t had rhubarb before”

Our children love to sew, learning through real first hand experiences.

“I would like to make a purse, first I need to measure it out and draw straight lines”

“Now I’m cutting out my pattern, I love this material because I like to eat apples”

”I can easily thread the needle “

”the sewing is a bit tricky for me”
