Let’s have a shake shake shaking Friday🎉

This morning the children got creative, designing their own shakers!

We looked around the nursery for some noisy and quiet resources choosing for ourselves  the shakers we wanted to make.

We used Pom poms, shells, sprinkles, beads (as we have lots of different allergies at nursery)

We had a try out to discover if we had to change our quantities, if we were happy with the volume of our shakers

We had a sing song to practice our shakers singing Baa baa Black Sheep and Twinkle twinkle Little Star, we were so noisy that Bookbug decided to join us 🥰

You can make your own shakers at home with anything noisy and anything that can be sealed so you can shake shake shake it all day😁

Al fresco Bookbug 😁

As the sun came out on this beautiful Friday, Bookbug came to visit us to share some songs stories….

We all said ‘Hallo’ to Bookbug with a great big hug followed by

The Wheels On The Bus, our wipers were swooshing

The children jumping up and down on the bus

Sticking out our tongues being a Little Green Frog

We all enjoyed our interactive touchy freely story about a teddy bear

Finishing off with Little Bunnies!!!

The children love when Bookbug comes to visit and if you fancy joining us he’ll visit once a month morning and afternoon and you can come and join in the fun 😁

Snakes and ladders 🪱🪜

Today the boys decided to play a game of snakes and ladders. This game encourages collaborative play, turn taking, patience!

Working together to set up the game encourages number recognition and colour recognition deciding which colour of counter you’d prefer.

Playing the game encourages touch counting, directional language forwards, backwards, up the ladder, down the snake.

“Your turn, my turn” rolling a six, gets another turn – understanding the rules of the game and developing an understanding that it may not always be your turn is a concept that some children can find very hard.

We then developed our learning experience by creating our own snakes and ladders boards.

Snakes and ladders is a fantastic game with many learning opportunities and can be lots of fun!🥰

Bookbug plays hide and seek!😁

Today the children and Bookbug had an impromptu game of hide and seek!

The children took turns hiding Bookbug characters within in the room, then gave their friends clues using directional language forwards, backwards, in, under, over .

The children were using their problem solving skills to recall the clues and were working together to find the toy the quickest.

After such a busy game we were glad when it was time for snack!

Dancing in the rain 🥳

The rain doesn’t stop the fun at Cart Mill!!

Out comes the ribbons 🎀

Out come the maracas!!

On goes our music 🎵

And off we go……..

Dancing, having fun with our friends, enjoying a variety of different music and dance, developing our gross motor skills by keeping fit making our hearts stronger and enjoying all the weather Scotland offers 🥰

Animal themed songs 🐮🐔🐸🐻‍❄️

Today the children were enjoying some songs with movement, puppets, rhymes help the children to join in and retain their interest. We all got to choose the songs we wanted to sing and used props if we could to make it even more fun.

Old Macdonald had a farm 🐷

Little bunnies see them sleeping, see them hopping 🐰

The children were having a great time singing, dancing, rhyming and this can be done at home sharing songs and having a lovely time together 😀

Bookbug comes to visit Cart Mill!

We are so lucky that Bookbug came to visit us at Cart Mill today! We welcomed him with our “Hallo” song.

Next, it was time to choose a puppet from our Bookbug basket! It was so exciting to take our turn and use the puppet we had chosen to guess which song we would sing next.

We waited very patiently until it was our turn to guess the song.

It was so much fun to bounce our puppets on the lycra to see how high they could jump!

Finally it was time to end our Bookbug with one of our favourite stories.  Our story had lots of rhyming words for us to practice!

We love when Bookbug comes to visit!

Easter Egg Hunt 😀

We had our very own Easter Egg Hunt at Cart Mill today!

Our older children demonstrated egg-cellent leadership skills by hiding the eggs for their friends and giving a wee helping hand to find them!

We found some egg-cellent hiding places…..

While our friends played “Sleepy Bunnies”

Then the fun began.  We popped on our beautiful Easter bonnets and off we went!  We all took turns and worked together.  It  didn’t take long to find all the eggs!  There were some great hiding places!

We had so much fun and we all received an egg to take home….. We took our time to choose which colour of egg we would like!

How tall is a T-Rex?

The children had been enjoying the story “How tall is a T-Rex?” and we decided to investigate this further…….

We measured the height of the t-Rex approximately 12feet

12 feet = 4 children

12 feet =2 ladies

12 feet =9 chairs

12 feet=20 welly boots =10pairs welly boots

The children all used their imagination, problem solving and numeracy skills whilst working together collaboratively 😀
