Flash Card Fun šŸ¤©šŸ‘

Today the children have enjoyed exploring their numeracy and literacy skills in nursery. Ā They showed excellent shape recognition, which they highlighted through some fun numeracy gamesā€¦

ā€œTriangles got 3 sides. Look, 1 2 3!ā€

Some Ā children enjoyed sorting them into groups, finding all the matching shapes and some even noticed a patternā€¦

ā€œThereā€™s only 3 pentagons. We need to find another one!ā€

Some of our children had lots of fun exploring the letter flash cards, Ā and could even identify familiar letters to spell out their names..

Some children used the pictures as context clues if they were unfamiliar with the letters, trying to guess what it said. ā€œI for igloo. Thatā€™s in my name!ā€

The children have enjoyed developing their numeracy and literacy skills through these flash card games, and had lots of fun looking at all the funny pictures on the cards too. Maybe next time we can make our very own flash cards!

How tall is a T-Rex?

The children had been enjoying the story ā€œHow tall is a T-Rex?ā€ and we decided to investigate this furtherā€¦ā€¦.

We measured the height of the t-Rex approximately 12feet

12 feet = 4 children

12 feet =2 ladies




12 feet =9 chairs


12 feet=20 welly boots =10pairs welly boots

 

The children all used their imagination, problem solving and numeracy skills whilst working together collaboratively šŸ˜€

 

 

 

 

Bee Bots Navigation

Today Ā in the Discovery Room the children have been enjoying playing with the Bee Bots robots. They have been developing their technology and navigation skills by learning the positional terms on the Bee Bots e.g the symbols: up, down, left, Ā right and green for go.

The children were trying to direct the Bee Bots onto the first letter of their name on the alphabet mat. They used their numeracy skills to count how many times the Bee Bots moved after pressing each symbol.

After becoming comfortable with the navigation systems, we decided to do a follow up activity. The children raced the Bee Bots to see if they could push a ball over the finishing line.
During this the children developed their problem-solving skills by navigating a route and implementing it by pressing the symbols on the Bee bot in order to push the ball over the finish-line.

We had so much fun developing our navigation, fine motor, numeracy and literacy skills.
Why not give it a try at home with any electronic games, remote control, or a programmable toy.
