Assemble at Cart Mill at 8.45am
On Saturday we will embark on our third Big Fit Walk and our second one in the winter. It’s a lovely, informal way to meet other parents and staff as you exercise and enjoy our local area. We will meet up at Cart Mill in the car park at 8.45am so that everyone can be signed in and we will be ready to go at 9am.
We will be taking the route that our forest schoolers walk every week to Busby Glen Park. This is a gentle stroll down Newford Grove, over the bridge at the white cart river and then past the Busby Hotel. We will need to cross the road in groups at the pedestrian crossing for safety and then we are almost at the park. We will continue into the park, past the children’s play park and walk straight ahead. Then it’s up the stairs to the forest. We will then go on a circular forest walk that will take around 20 minutes.
We have risk assessed the circular forest walk and here are the main points:
• The route has a number of stairs going down and a few stairs going up.
• The route will be muddy in parts due to the recent wet weather so wellies or walking boots will be necessary.
• The route may be unsuitable for prams/pushchairs due to the stairs and the mud.
• There are damaged sections of fence which means there are large gaps. Small children will need to have an adult’s hand on the walk and all children will need to be supervised by their responsible adult.
The forest walk is beautiful and our children do this walk every week so we are very familiar with it. You can spot wildlife as well as take in the sights, sounds and smells that surround you. Before we know it we will be back where we started and Michelle and Lissa will be waiting at the children’s play park with tea, coffee, juice and treats – time for a well-earned rest and play! We will signal when we are about to leave the park to return to Cart Mill but you are free to stay in the park longer. We hope to be back at the centre no later than 11am.
I hope that you and your family will be able to join us and I look forward to seeing you all ready for a walk in the forest!
