Creative Cars and Crafts

This week in the junk modelling the children have continued to use their imagination to create their own creations. They have been using a variety of materials  and glue and cellotape to connect the different resources together. The children have helped each other and shared resources and ideas with each other.

” I am making a car”

”oh I want to make a car”

” we can make a car we both can go in”

” cellotape is stronger”

” glue is easier , but sometimes doesn’t stay on”

some of the children were making boxes for jewellery, making trains & decorating their boxes with lots of different colours.. they were able to use the glue and pick their own resources

A few of the other children had so much fun creating their own cars. They talked to each other on  what they would need for the cars and got to work. A few of the children added great detail to their cars.

“ 4 wheels”

” steering wheel”

” I need a coffee cup & cup holder”

” oh I want a coffee cup too”

I am putting a horn on my wheel”

” I need lights on mine”

Th children then had lots of fun in the cars, some then turned into choo choo trains.

“ we are going a shopping & taking the baby”

“ I am going to the beach”

” I am going to the park”

The children continued their play in the or cars and shared  them with their friends so everyone could have a turn.

Let’s get painting!

Today in the studio a group of our children selected materials to paint. They choose rollers and a selection of different coloured paints. They displayed good understanding of the rules in the studio and put on aprons before they began to make their creations.

Using different rollers they created different patterns. Below are some pictures and comments from the children.

“It’s a zig zag”

“It’s got lots of dots”

“I wavy like the beach”

“Squiggles”

We then added in paint brushes and let the children explore their fine and gross motor skills to create their masterpiece.

Super sewing in the studio😍

Today in the sewing area we had a discussion about why we sew?

“ it makes stitches”

“”It’s fun”

“My mum sews”

We looked to see if anyone had buttons on their clothes

“I have a button on my jeans”

“My cardigan has buttons”

“My jacket has buttons”

We looked at the seam on our clothes and could see the stitches that had been made.

“ I can see lots on my leggings”

“They’re on my sleeve”

”look at my shoes”

We talked about sewing is a process of using a needle and thread to connect pieces of fabric or attach something like a button to a fabric surface. It’s a practical skill used to make or repair.

It was then our turn to have a go, some of the children chose and attached the buttons to the fabric.

“That was very hard”

“The little needle is very jaggy”

“ the eye of the needle is so small”

“I done it, it’s together”

A few of the other children chose to sew bits of material together we made holes with the punch and then used the needle and thread to attach the fabrics together using our hand and  eye coordination and lots of concentration.

“Look at mine is so colourful”

“Mine is together”

That’s so cool”

“Can we make some clothes for the puppet?”

The children had great listening and communication skills took turns  and were able to follow my instructions. Good job everyone 😁
