Highlights of our Week by P7

Here are some of our highlights of the week as sketched by P7B:

We were also rewarded with a Prefect Break where we enjoyed mixing with our peers. We enjoyed table tennis, advent crafts, Just Dance, a Kahoot quiz and some free time on the iPads. Thank you for your continued hard work Primary 7!

P7B Rainforest Work

Primary 7B have been learning about the various tribes that live in the Amazon rainforest. We have been carrying out research to write diaries through the eyes of a child living in the rainforest and we are going to write our final information report on our choice of rainforest tribe.

We have particularly enjoyed creating these beautiful pictures of Kayopo tribe children and used a range of cutting techniques and materials. We have been amazed with the results.

Book week

During book week we looked at the story The Last Wolf and discussed the effects of deforestation. We worked with p6/7 to create some art which showed the last forest surrounded by concrete and buildings. We enjoyed the story but thought it was quite sad that humans had destroyed the natural environment and the creatures who lived there.

Earlier this term we completed bikeability 1 and 2. Today we received our certificates and badges. We all feel really proud.

Remembrance

Remembrance
Learners immersed themselves in remembrance this week and had great maturity towards it.

We explored poppies, made poppy fields and made a split pin poppy.
We explored medals in the military and designed our own.

Book week

We have been having great fun this week exploring book week.

We  brought in our favourite books to share from home. Can you guess the readers display on our classroom window has created lots of discussion.

Learners redesigned the front cover for their book and created a character description. It was lovely reading a bit of our favourite books to Mrs Smith.

Have fun exploring your book bug bags and reading your favourite tales.

Literacy

In literacy we have explored character descriptions and increased fluency in our reading.  Our phonic this week was oo and we were very creative in our search for words with oo.

Our recount writing this week was on the book Dad and I went shopping.  We are learning how to structure a recount text.

We further explored verbs this week acting them out and changing tenses.

Numeracy

We have explored 100 squares. Talking about numbers, before, after and in between. We played games and built 100 square jigsaws. We continued 2x table playing bingo, creating groups and singing songs.

Maths

We used problem solving skills with volume.

After COP26 the class developed a great interest in reducing our carbon footprint and looking after our world.  We chose 3 class goals to reduce our carbon footprint, and we created poster to share with others.

Topic

This week we explored the sun and influence of shadows on day and night. We explored through light, and drawing shadows.

Our Highlights of the Week – P7B

We have had a brilliant week in P7b. We were so impressed with the P7A blog post from last week, we decided to copy their idea! The children had a think about what learning they have enjoyed and created an image on SketchesSchool. Have a look below at our work:

I have also added some additional multiplication and division worksheets to our P7B Teams page under the he files section should anyone want to have a go at home. If you e-mail your work, I am always happy to have a look at it and provide feedback 😀

Book week

We are learning about keeping connected as a Building Resilience strategy. We found out more about each other when we played a game called Find someone who…

For book week we read the special book The Last Wolf, shared by the whole school. It explores the sad theme of deforestation and extinction, but ends with hope. As we read it we charted our changing emotions by holding up our emotion face pictures. After we had talked about it we drew what we think would happen next, or far into the future.

Our writing is a recount and we planned and wrote about our first day at school. We remembered what we learned and drew, and about having lunch with p7s.

In maths we are learning times tables and why they are useful. We also continued symmetry and plotting shapes on grids.

Here are our poppy pictures from last weeks’ Remembrance Day.

Our spelling was long i, made in various ways.

We are learning about the planets and used our notebook to take short notes while watching a clip. This is a useful skill to help us remember what we’ve heard.

We used our iPads to sketch hedgehogs after working on the school book about Harry the Hedgehog.

And finally, the pheasant! It perched outside our window today, as it pecked around the playground looking for food.

P7A Review of the Week 19.11.21

P7A have had quite a creative week this week.  We collaborated on an image for the Whole School story about Harry the Hedgehog and are really pleased with how it turned out.  Each individual part of this image was created on our own iPads using Sketches School and then we used Instant Alpha in keynote to remove the background so the images could be layered on top of each other to create one big picture.

We also made some fabulous mixed media artwork of rainforest macaws.  We used glue spreaders instead of brushes to add texture to the feathers and then added detail with coloured pencils, oil pastels or felt pens.

1) Name one thing you have found challenging this week.  What did you do or what do you still need to help you tackle it?

2) Name one thing you have worked hard on this week.  Why are you proud of it?
