An icy week in Primary 1!

It has been a perfect week for P1 to look more at how water freezes and ice melts and to relate it to the frosty mornings and snowy weather! On Monday we did ice experiments, predicting and then testing to see whether salt, sugar or hot water melted the ice fastest.

We also worked in groups to make ice ornaments to hang in the playground. Hopefully the children managed to share these with you and tell you why they were melting.

Other highlights this week have been eating pancakes on Tuesday, learning to takeaway in maths and the ch sound in phonics. We are all excited for World Book Day next Thursday!

Rob came to talk to us about the Roman fort near Melrose and to show us some of the artefacts that have been found there.  We got to hold a 1800 year old Roman playing piece from a game and also got to try on some replica armour. It was great fun but we decided being a soldier must have been hard work as the armour was very heavy!

Happy 10th Birthday Kingsland!!

We had great fun this morning celebrating Kingsland’s 10th Birthday. One of our activities was to design and create a birthday cake in our groups. We all worked together to make our best creations for the Bake Off judges. Joshua and Aiden’s group won with an amazing chocolate cake that looked like fireworks.

Thinking like a mathematician

This week we have been exploring algebra. We have looked at the patterns and pictures, rather than numbers, that help us understand maths and be able to apply it in different areas. We have discovered that we all see and solve problems in different ways.
