Dalguise
Last week I, and the rest of Kingsland P7, went to Dalguise. Dalguise is an awesome activity camp where you do loads of cool things like zipwire and abseiling. Our school have gone there for as long as anyone can remember, and it is always the p7s that go. Apparently, it helps us bond and collaborate for the rest of the year (at least that’s what the teachers say!) and it is in Perthshire for anyone who wants to go. In this piece of writing, I will tell you about my favourite day of the week which was (obviously) Thursday!
I woke up on Thursday with a jolt as someone started banging on the door. Finally, I remembered that I was at Dalguise and this was the last day. I and the rest of my dorm clambered out of bed to get ready for the amazing day ahead. At last everyone was outside. We all ran along to dining hall and after a bit of queuing I finally got my breakfast which was some tasty bacon with tomatoes and toast. When we had finished breakfast, our group and group 3 got our wellies on and set off. After what seemed like hours, we reached the top and put a rock down that we had carried all the way there. Then we went back down to the meeting points and off to our next activity which was … climbing.
When we got to the climbing wall, everyone got harnessed up and we started to climb. When it was my turn, I was slightly nervous but once I got up there, I just kept on going until I reached the top! Then I leaned back and felt a rush of excitement as I got lowered down. I then waited until everyone had gone and rushed back for lunch. After lunch (which was great) we went into the wood to do challenge course. In challenge course we pretended we were pirates and we had to get out of a fallen cave. We actually had to complete a course full of loads of obstacles, but it was still really amazing, and we all enjoyed it.
Next up it was abseiling. We walked to the same area as we did the climbing and like we did before we all got harnessed up. When it was my go, I walked up the steps and got clipped up. Then I leaned back and slowly marched my way down the wall. I then watched everyone else go and repeated the routine again for my second go (this time a little faster). We then walked back, had dinner and started to get ready for the disco!
After an hour of chilling in our rooms or going to Mrs Hope’s hair salon we were all ready. We sped down to the disco and charged our way in. Inside it was awesome! There were disco lights, there was loud music and everywhere there were people doing some really ‘special’ dances. After about two hours of mayhem, the disco finally ended, and we all went back to our rooms.
So that is it for this wondrous day and I am really grateful for this awesome experience.

My favourite day of Dalguise was Wednesday the 18th of September. It was brilliant because I conquered loads of fears and had great fun. First we had survivor in the woods.
In survivor we did 3 things: den building , fire lighting and whittling. For den building I was with Will and Neve. We found a large log and placed sticks over it to create our den. It looked really cool inside and outside but there was stiff competition with the other dens. Eventually, we all decided it was a tie. In fire lighting I was with Will. At first we didn’t have a flint and steel so we had to wait. When we did get a flint and steel it was really tricky to get a spark so we traded with another group and this time we got a better one. It was really easy to light with. Then we did whittling: we were going to make tent pegs but there wasn’t enough time so we just sharpened sticks instead.
Jacob’s ladder was also fun. It is basically a huge ladder and the rungs get further and further apart. You go up in groups of three and you need to have teamwork to get to the top. I was with Gabe and Louis. Louis and I got to the top and Gabe got to the one below the top but he would made it if we had more time.
After lunch we had canoeing. Now I don’t like kayaking so I was unsure whether to be excited or nervous so I was a mix of emotions when we started. But it turned out to be really good. We played lots of games in the canoes and out of the canoes, in the pond and out of the pond. My favourite one was food wars. You and your partner chose a food and the aim was to turn everyone else into that food. How you did that was this: you would tap the front or back of your opponents boat 3 times and say 1 ,2, 3 and then your food. Gabe and I were chocolate cake and in the end we won! Our last activity was the giant swing. This was my favourite activity in all of Dalguise! Basically it was a giant swing. you could swing up to about 30 metres forward and 15 metres high. It was awesome! I did it with Gabe (again) and I liked it so much, I would pay up to £20 to do it just once more.
This was my favourite day because it challenged me, I had fun and I tried new things. I slept well that night !

Bang Bang Bang at the door – Mrs. Hope was awake early and eager to get us out of our beds. It was Wednesday, my second full day at Dalguise P.G.L ( which is in Perthshire) and it was 6:30 am. Before I even had time to get dressed I had to run 3 times around the lodge Ben Lawers along with the rest of P7. It was FREEZING! After, I got dressed quickly and headed over for breakfast I speedily ate up and ran over to Survivor with our instructor Ella and the rest of my group. We had to imagine we were on a desert island and choose 2 items to take with us. My group ( the boys ) chose a pen knife and compass, I personally thought these were the best. We all then scurried off to make a den and try to start a fire. It was hard work but we got there in the end. Following that we had Jacob’s Ladder- my instructor was Findlay he was one of my favourites because he was great fun. Jacob’s Ladder was a massive ladder where the spaces between each rung grew further apart. No-one in my group reached the top, I was quite close but I looked down and felt I was going to fall into a dead heap on the ground. It was scary but exciting. In the afternoon it was canoeing our instructor was Callum he was a giant at a staggering 6ft6. At first we learnt how to turn then we played tig in canoes. It was great fun even though I got drenched. Our last activity was Giant Swing, for me this was the BEST! At first I was petrified, Marco and I were third in line to go. Initially we went half way then we decided to go to the very top. From the top it was an amazing view. I got a massive wedgie from the harness. After dinner we played ambush it was amazing fun. Finally it was bed tim, I was shattered.
Dalguise was a brilliant experience and really challenged me, it also put me out of my comfort zone quite alot. I wish I could do it all again.
Primary 1 Phonics
This week we have been learning about the m and d sound. For each new sound we look through the ‘Magic Bag’ to guess the sound of the day, think about other words that begin with that sound and learn the song and action. We make a related craft and practise our letter formation on whiteboards. We are also starting to use magnetic boards to blend sounds to make simple words.
On Monday we used macaroni to make a m shape! The PVA glue was quite messy!
On Wednesday we made d print newspaper and then made our own dog to stick over the top. Everyone worked very hard and we were delighted with the end results. Keep it up!
Our class representatives.
Well done to our newly elected representatives who were elected this week.
Lauren is our new Class Council rep.
Well done also to Jay, William and Callum who also stood.
Roderick is our new Sustainable Squad rep. Well done also to Alfie and Erin who also stood for election.
Roderick wowed us with his speech which was;
I believe that the environment is the most important thing because without the environment we wouldn’t exist. We have amazing mountains, incredible seas and breath taking animals that need protecting. WE CAN’T lose them!
I promise that I will help the Sustainability Squad engage with the whole school and do something about the environment.
Well done to everybody -they were closely fought elections.
This week in P7
Hi today we are going to be telling you about what we have been doing in P7 so far this week.First we are going to tell you about P.E.
We asked a few people what they have to say about P.E. with Mrs Flectcher .A lot of people commented on a game we have been playing a lot recently called uni-hock .Uni-hock is a game where you have a bench in each corner you have to try hit the puck with your stick into the bench .You have to be careful to score in the right goal and not your own.We have also had people commenting on the tournament we are playing next Tuesday.
Now we are going to talk about maths. In maths we have been doing long division, fractions and a bit of percentages. We asked P7 what they thought about this.A lot of us have said that we have found maths hard but they are definitely getting better with the practice we have had.We have also had people that thought it was really fun.
We have been practising our Dalguise presentations and have been writing recounts about it.We hope we preform a really good presentation and most of the P6’s want to go next year.In our recount writing we wrote about the whole trip of Dalguise. We also redrafted the start of our recounts on the computers.
Last of all we asked some people what their favourite thing this week was.We had the Dalguise presentation, free writing,P.E. and house captain interviews.
Hope you enjoyed reading what we have been doing.See you next time!
Making peach crumble recount
Well done Drew for a great recount!
Making peach crumble
Our class, on Roald Dahl day, made peach crumble in Jedderfield.
First we washed our hands so we didn’t get germs on the crumble. Then we cut the lovely, delicious peaches into small chunks. Next we weighed the ingredients in a big dish and we had to mix it with our hands. Next we put the peaches in a smaller dish with the crumble. Then Mrs Stevenson put the crumble in the oven. Finally we got to have a piece.
It was delicious and I hope we can do it again.
