Remember, remember the 5th of November!

We have been working very hard in P2 this week.

Our highlight was sharing the little book we made for Mrs Ward’s farewell. It was lovely to share it with her when she visited our classroom to say good bye.

We enjoyed learning about Greta Thunberg, COP 26 and climate change and we are very proud of the posters we made.

In science we investigated the Moon and learned that the Moon does not shine but, when the Sun is reflected on it this makes the Moon appear to light up in the night sky. We explored this with a torch and a rotating globe. This also let us see that when it is daylight on one side of the earth it is night time on the other side of the world.

We also took our learning outdoors on Thursday. We collected leaves, twigs and bracken for our dragon dens by scavenging in the school grounds. It was a beautiful crisp afternoon so, we took advantage this after all the rain we have had recently. Kingsland is very beautiful with the Autumn leaves on the ground. We then had great fun with our friends running around in the leaves.

On Fireworks day we got very creative and used chalk to recreate fireworks in the night sky. It looked like we were having our very own fireworks display in our classroom.

We wrote a recount about last week’s Hallowe’en party and our teacher helped us to write this by modelling it. Next week we are going to write our recounts independently.

It has been fun learning the 2 times table through songs and being active.

Happy Bonfire weekend everyone!

Remember remember the 5th November

This week we drew fireworks and learned about the origins of Bonfire Night.
We used black pens to outline these fireworks and stars.

We got into role as astronauts and rocket designers and were set a challenge by NASA to design a rocket to go to the sun. We had to research metals and temperatures and draw our teams’ rocket inside and out.
Our writing was also about space. We wrote a recount of a moon walk, as if we were the first children on the moon. The feelings were mixed, from excitement to terror! To get into the mood we watched footage of the first moon landing in 1969.

Subtraction with exchange

In maths we used materials to exchange a ten for ten units so that we could subtract. Being able to use the column method is very useful for when we are dealing with very big numbers. We also looked at lines of symmetry.

We watched a Skipper assembly about keeping connected. These themes overlap with our HWB lessons on friendship as we look into the changes that happen as we grow up.

We have been talking a lot about climate change as we keep up with news from COP26. As young people we have important views and ideas about improving our treatment of the planet. We are very aware of choices we make to live more sustainably.

We enjoyed watching Primary 7’s video story for Mrs Ward as she leaves today. We made her a card full of messages, and wish her all the best in her new job. We will miss her!

P7A Review of the week 5.11.21

One of the highlights for P7A this week was watching the live streaming of The Lorax from The Old Vid on Tuesday.  This was a special screening for schools linked to COP26 and we enjoyed watching it.

We also created a special Goodbye assembly for Mrs Ward which we shared with all the classes. This was another Dr Seuss related task as we re-wrote the words to one of her favourite stories and illustrated it using the Sketches App  and ideas from Dr Seuss characters. The finished product was uploaded to iMovie and also made into an ebook for Mrs Ward to keep.

We also worked in groups on presentations about rainforest plants this week. It was really fun to collaborate on the same Keynote file on our individual iPads and then create one shared piece of work which we could present to the class on the Smartboard.

We couldn’t do gymnastics on Thursday so Mrs Little taught us a new game in the MUGA called Hula Hut.  It was a cold day but we kept active to stay warm!

Time for Reflection:

  1. What was the best bit of the week for you?
  2. What could you have improved on?

Weekly Review 5.11.21

This week has been another great week.

We all watched The Lorax Live on Tuesday and thoroughly enjoyed it. It explained climate change really well and made links to COP26.

We have been learning about plants in the rainforest and how they have adapted so that they can survive in the extreme climate. We then used this information to create an information report on rainforest plants.

Our classroom is starting to look like a real rainforest and we have all taken on different jobs to make items for it. Each week we will add to our display with our new learning.

In maths we are finishing our block on subtraction. Ask us to show you; the written method, number line method, missing number method or expanding numbers method. We have been working very hard on this.

In Health and Well-being we have been discussing relationships and how we are connected in different ways. We enjoying thinking about our connections with each other in class. We have also covered drugs education and have been learning about legal and illegal drugs and the impact they can have on someone.

What has been your highlight this week?

Another Week in P7B

Primary 7 have been continuing with their prefect duties this week and have been helping out in the MUGA, dinner hall and playgrounds. Keep up the good work everyone!

We have been working hard in gymnastics with Mrs Fletcher and have enjoyed practising different skills on the apparatus.

We have been continuing to work on information reports in writing and have had a focus on note taking this week too. We watched Newsround and had to take notes on the key points.

In maths we have been looking at different types of graphs and we have continued to practise our multiplication skills and long multiplication.

Finally, we had the privilege of being joined by Mrs Ward on her penultimate day at Kingsland as we watched our Goodbye assembly with her. The Primary 7s helped to re-write “Oh the Places You’ll Go” and added illustrations to the presentation. We made a lovely card and presented Mrs Ward with some flowers too. Good luck and keep in touch!

Reflect on the week and answer the questions below:

1. What was your favourite part of the week? Explain your answer.
2. What are you most looking forward to next week?
3. If you could revisit anything we did this week, what would it be and why?

Keep connected

One of Skipper’s toolkit strategies is ‘keep connected’. Today we thought about how we keep connected when we are apart and why we need to feel connected. We made this web of links we have with people in our class. We spoke about what connected us to each other, such as, shared hobbies, living near each other, knowing family members or sharing memories from long ago.
The more lines that connect us, the stronger the web!

Lorax

Today we watched a live performance of the Lorax from The Old Vic Theatre. We all really enjoyed it. It looks at important issues around sustainability which are also currently being discussed at the COP 26 meeting in Glasgow.
