# Measuring Virtually and in Reality

P7A have been consolidating their knowledge about how to calculate Perimeter and Area.  Today we used the Measure App on our iPads to see how accurate it was in measuring lengths of rectangles around the classroom.  We then checked by measuring accurately with a ruler and completing the perimeter and area calculations. Although there were some discrepancies, on the whole the figures were mostly very accurate and we thought of lots of uses for the App in real life.

# P7A Review of the week 14.1.22

Welcome back and Happy New Year!

This week we have been:

• revising 4 operations calculations in Numeracy
• learning about Perimeter in Maths
• exploring Scottish poetry in order to recite some later in the term
• learning about the story of Tam o Shanter by decoding the poem and watching an illustrated film of it.
• Talking a lot about behaviour and attitude to learning as we prepare for our final two terms of P7

Reflection:

1. What is your favourite part of Tam o Shanter?
2. What can you do to make Kingsland a better place this term?

# P7A Review of the Week 17.12.21

It’s been a very festive week in P7 with lots of our activities linked to Christmas – we have still been learning though!

In our Maths we’ve revised co-ordinates and line symmetry from earlier in the block as well as working on our Problem Solving strategies.

We completed some Reading comprehension about Christmas in other countries and also improved our mental map of the world by doing some Geography tasks linked to countries, flags and capital cities.

Sam F and Ailish became teachers for the afternoon when they shared with us what they have been learning about Micro:bits and showed us what they were and how to use them.

We’ve also had some time for Christmas crafts and digital artwork as well as enjoying our third Prefect Break.

Phew!  What a busy week!

# P7A Review of the Week 10.12.21

What a busy week – it seems to have flown past!  We’ve had a festive theme to many of our tasks this week but are very much still learning!

What have been your highlights this week?

What have you learned to do that you didn’t know how to do before?

# Congratulations to our Sportshall Team

Our P6 and 7 Sportshall athletes went to the Gytes on Wednesday to compete in the local competition.  All the children represented Kingsland very well and we came a close 2nd to Priorsford. Both schools are now through to the next round, which will be in late January.  Well done to all of you for your fantastic sportsmanship.

# Creating Stories with P1a by P7a

As part of our work for Book Week Scotland a couple of weeks ago, Primary 7A made story cubes for the Primary ones.  Last Thursday we worked in groups with pairs of P1 pupils to use these story cubes to make up fantastic tales together.  We had lots of fun and then acted out the stories and finished off by reading some books together.

P7 are now going to use the ideas from P1 to make their own books to share at a later date.

# P7A Review of the Week 26.11.21

Among this week’s highlights for P7A were making story cubes for the P1s, creating rainforest animals out of clay and our Prefect Break where superb sporting attitudes were demonstrated by all participants.

What was your best bit of the week?

What are you looking forward to next week?

# P7A Review of the Week 19.11.21

P7A have had quite a creative week this week.  We collaborated on an image for the Whole School story about Harry the Hedgehog and are really pleased with how it turned out.  Each individual part of this image was created on our own iPads using Sketches School and then we used Instant Alpha in keynote to remove the background so the images could be layered on top of each other to create one big picture.

We also made some fabulous mixed media artwork of rainforest macaws.  We used glue spreaders instead of brushes to add texture to the feathers and then added detail with coloured pencils, oil pastels or felt pens.

1) Name one thing you have found challenging this week.  What did you do or what do you still need to help you tackle it?

2) Name one thing you have worked hard on this week.  Why are you proud of it?

# P7A Review of the Week

We’ve had a great week in P7A and everyone has been really settled and working hard!

We’ve continued our learning about Rainforests, learned about Remembrance, tried some new trick and tips for getting the most from our iPads and began work on Division and Pie charts.

We decided to do our individual reviews in a different way this week so here are a few of our Sketch Notes with some of our highlights:

# P7A Review of the week 5.11.21

One of the highlights for P7A this week was watching the live streaming of The Lorax from The Old Vid on Tuesday.  This was a special screening for schools linked to COP26 and we enjoyed watching it.

We also created a special Goodbye assembly for Mrs Ward which we shared with all the classes. This was another Dr Seuss related task as we re-wrote the words to one of her favourite stories and illustrated it using the Sketches App  and ideas from Dr Seuss characters. The finished product was uploaded to iMovie and also made into an ebook for Mrs Ward to keep.

We also worked in groups on presentations about rainforest plants this week. It was really fun to collaborate on the same Keynote file on our individual iPads and then create one shared piece of work which we could present to the class on the Smartboard.

We couldn’t do gymnastics on Thursday so Mrs Little taught us a new game in the MUGA called Hula Hut.  It was a cold day but we kept active to stay warm!

Time for Reflection:

1. What was the best bit of the week for you?
2. What could you have improved on?
