In preparation for World Book Day choose one of the following activities based on your favourite book.

• Design a new book cover and a back cover that has a blurb.
• Create a piece of art based on your favourite scene- this could be a painting, collage,3D model or any form of art work.
• Write a new ending for your book- this could be the last chapter.
• Create a comic strip for the main events in your book.
• Create a PowerPoint based on your book that will tell us all about it. Make slides on the main characters, setting, main events and why it is your favourite book.

Bring your favourite book to school on Thursday 7^th March. Choose a small extract that you could share with a friend. Bring your homework to school on the 7^th and we will have a sharing time.

In P2 we have all been trying very hard to join up our letters in Handwriting. We are finding it very challenging but, we are persevering and enjoying it.

Many of us feel very proud when we learn how to join up new letters.

Primary 5 had worked very hard researching different breakfast recipes and creating 7 new recipes for this competition.  We then had to create a menu with our new recipes.   During this time we enjoyed some practical research with the making of some dishes.

We found out today that we were runners up in the competition.   Good luck to all the finalists.

DJ – I really enjoyed researching and writing reports on tsunamis.  I also enjoyed telling Primary 5/4 about natural disasters.

Ruby – I liked writing all the reports we did. It was fun.  I liked researching, taking notes and then writing a report at the end.

Izzy – I enjoyed building our structures in Maths and testing their strength on the jelly.

Joey –  I learned what tessellation is and tested out my own designs. I really enjoyed watching the Scottish afternoon and listening to people reciting their poems.

Bailey – I enjoyed making the protein balls. I learned that if you eat certain things like nuts it can change your sports performance.

Jessica – I discovered that only 15cm of fast flowing water can knock the average person off their feet in a flood!

Maisie – I enjoyed sharing my learning with Primary 5/4. It was good to present information to another class and hear about what they knew.

Gregor – I learned to use a compass in Maths!

Freya – I enjoyed doing the coordinates and trying to find the missing coordinates in Maths.  I also enjoyed reciting the Scottish  song in front of the whole school.

Evan – I now know what a parallelogram is.   I enjoyed doing the activities about shapes.

Lois – I learned how to use a net of a shape to build a 3D castle.

Lottie – I learned lots about flooding and what you can do to prepare for a flood. Even though i have experienced a flood myself I still built on my knowledge with the visit from SEPA.

Murray – I enjoyed using the computers to play ‘Stop Disaster’.  It showed me ways of preventing a natural disaster impacting peoples lives.

Islay – I enjoyed the lesson about flooding and the visit from SEPA. I used to live beside the Cuddy so I knew a little bit about flooding before.

Ruby – I learned the poem ‘Tam O’Shanter’ poem by Robert Burns.  I felt happy and proud that I came first in the competition.

Primary 5 had an exciting afternoon when Primary 7 came into class to share their learning.  Each group had worked hard preparing a presentation which actively involved our class.  We enjoyed a tectonic plate activity with crackers and cream – we actually enjoyed eating the tectonic plates and the magma!!  We identified the Pacific Ring of Fire on a world map.  We watched a volcano erupt.  We witnessed the devastation to Pompeii after Mount Vesuvius erupted.  We learned about the 2015 flood in our own town, Peebles and how there is still some damage visible.  There was a little drama to explain a tsunami and we got to practise a drill to keep safe during an earthquake – Drop, Cover and Hold.   There was also a quiz at the end to see if we had been paying attention!

Well done  Primary 7 and thank you.   You have worked very hard on  your presentations.  You explained everything clearly and enthusiastically.  It was great seeing you demonstrate and apply your knowledge and understanding.  This has also helped to reinforce key learning involved in our topic on Natural Disasters too.

We will also be making some Valentine bracelets and cards to take home, complete with a coded message created using the binary alphabet.

A great team effort for our final week of cooking.  We have just had a lovely afternoon tea with a selection of sandwiches (beef, cheese and tomato, egg mayo), plain and fruit scones and iced cup cakes. Everyone worked really hard to get the food ready and then had a fantastic time eating it all! Well done everyone!

Mrs Harrison kindly donated some logs to our ELC and we have been busy making a new sand pit, and seating area.  Thank you Mrs and Mr Harrison.

Mr Harrison also cut some  “log slices” which we have been using for plates in our kitchen and for playdough.

We have been enjoying creating and continuing lots of different types of patterns.

We have now been creating and copying symmetrical patterns with paint and on the computer/smartboard.
