careers week continued…..

yesterday we had Leo’s Dad in to talk about being a vet.

He talked about the different kinds of animals he looks after and has even looked after a Lion when he worked in a different country!

We think we are going to make our own Vets surgery in our home corner after the holidays.

Thank you Mr Gardiner-Roberts!

This afternoon Ms Lea came to talk to us about being a paramedic. She even brought her Ambulance!

She talked to us about why some people would need to go in an ambulance and what are some of the things she does to help people.

She had bandages, hat hard, a special uniform and syringes to show us – she even left some items for us to play with!

We then went outside to have a look inside the ambulance, we got to have a go in the front, lie on the bed in the bag and have a turn of the heart monitor!

Lots of the boys and girls now want to be paramedics no!

Thank you Ms Lea!

Careers Week – Skills to be a doctor

Today we had a visit from Dr Gibson who spoke to us about her job of being a doctor.

We had a range of activities to explore from reading our blood pressure, prioritising health issues,  to using our knowledge of maths to work out medical prescriptions. It was great fun!

Bailey even made links with medicine and algebra!

Careers Week #3

Mr Mulligan came in and talked to us about his job as a Renewable Energy Engineer. It was fascinating to see all the different tools and materials he uses daily. We learnt the difference between waste, water and heating pipes and the different ways they would be attached – either by filing, gluing or soldering. We got to try bending a pipe using a special tool too. Mr Mulligan told us about some of the important skills for his job – for example, maths for estimating and measuring and literacy for filling out paperwork and talking to customers. He also told us a bit about the difference between working for a company or being self employed.
