Happy Platinum Jubilee celebrations!

P4 and P5 had a fun jubilee tea party this afternoon. Everyone turned a cupcake into a Victoria sponge and wore royal crowns or ties. We sat outside to have cake, strawberries and juice together before being sent on a treasure hunt by her majesty Mrs Stevenson!
Finally we danced in the playground which was great fun. Well done everyone!

P7B’s Brilliant Week 27.5.22

Blog written collaboratively by the class.

This week we have been:

  • Writing a piece in response to an event from last week
  • We had a Prefect Break with P7A. We were outside and some of us played football, danced, found caterpillars, chatted and walked.
  • We enjoyed our Open Morning with some parents visiting. Our task was to build 1980s cars that could move on different surfaces.
  • We had to complete THREE High School Maths assessments. We were also learning about chance and probability in maths.
  • We created pop art style stamps of 1980s musicians.
  • Many of us started our roles as Active Sports leaders, following on from our training. We led sessions with P2s and 3s down on the field. We have had some very positive feedback from the children so well done!
  • Our spelling sound this week was nk and ng.
  • We completed our penultimate week of prefect duties.

Between now and the end of term, we are looking forward to:

  • Last week of prefect duties
  • We are allowed to go onto the field
  • Summer Holidays
  • Leavers’ Assembly
  • Lunch on the balcony
  • Two day visit to High school
  • Beltane

Have a wonderful weekend P7. Thank you for your continued hard work 🙂

I-pad trip to Kelso

On Wednesday we had a great trip to Kelso to take part in a day planned by the inspire team. We used our I-pads to complete different activities and are looking forward to furthering these skills back in the classroom.
It was so nice to be on a trip out of the classroom after 2 years.

Back in the building…

Our highlight of the week was welcoming parents back into the classroom. We had a great time showing off our photography skills and getting parents involved with the activities. The photos show the work we are most proud of today.

Thank-you to all the parents who made it in today.

Primary 5A’s Brilliant Week!

This week in P5A we have been looking after Mrs Wilkinson as she and Mrs Lloyd have swapped classes for the week. It looks like Mrs Lloyd has had a brilliant time with the P7s at Dalguise!

Our highlight of the week was going to Kelso on the bus on Tuesday to the Countryside day with P5s from across the Scottish Borders. We enjoyed seeing lots of different animals, learning about farm machinery and how different types of food, like sausages and butter, are made. We learned about water safety and water rescue and had a go with some of the Emergency Services equipment. A big thank you to all of our parent helpers who made this trip possible.

Here are some of the photos we have chosen to share with you:

Up on the roof !

P2, P2/3 and P3 are all looking after and caring for their caterpillars 🐛🐛🐛🐛🐛

They are thriving, munching away happily , growing really big and now they are starting to attach themselves to the lid of their container. Once they settle on the lid they will need peace and quiet to change into cocoons.

There are lots of silvery threads in the containers and this means that the caterpillars are healthy.

We are excited to see the next stage of development in the lifecycle of our caterpillars.

Just hanging.

Very hungry, happy caterpillars !

Review of the week

This week we learned how to spell words with the z sounds made with z, zz, s or se.

We wrote an explanation piece about how to make pottery using the structure

  • title
  • identifying statement
  • explanation sequence
  • summary statement

It has put us in the mood to make pots out of clay!

On Wednesday the whole school, including the adults, stopped to read for 6 minutes to improve our well being.

‘Keep the heid and read’ is a great idea and we agreed that it worked.

We are learning how to calculate duration in time, by looking at start and finish times. We also interpreted a database, and know how to get the information we need.

We were given potatoes to plant so we have put them in compost bags in the playground. There are two varieties, ‘Casablanca’ and ‘Sarpo Una’. We hope that they will multiply!

On Tuesday next week we are going on a trip to Kelso for Countryside Day. We are entering the poster competition and the theme is one on the UN goals, ‘life on land’. Everyone designed a poster and the class voted for this entry by Jackson. He is making a large version with some friends to take on Tuesday. Well done, Jackson, and good luck on Tuesday.

Here are some of the other entries.
