Woooooo what a spooky week P1! What lovely costumes too!
Spooky fun in Primary 1!
We have had a spooky week in Primary 1 as we have been learning the g and b sound.
We practised our cutting as we cut out ghost templates and covered our ghosts in cotton wool.
For b, we had to make a bat! We had to cut, fold and glue to make these super decorations!
We were inspired by Winnie the Witch and wrote and drew about the WHO and WHAT in the story. We all took our time and we were very proud of the finished results. We also wrote some sentences by ourselves to go with our work.
Finally, we had a great time at our Halloween party on Friday! We danced, played games, had a snack and made a ghost house and puppet. Happy Halloween everyone!

Fire Safety Visit
On Thursday 31st of October we had a super exciting visit from Sophie and Murray from Peebles Fire station. They came in to give us some helpful advice on how to stay safe when using sparklers, being around fireworks and the bonfire as bonfire night is at the weekend. They told us that we shouldn’t buy fireworks or accept them from other people, and if we see any sparklers on the ground lying about that we shouldn’t pick them up because they might have already been used and still be hot and you could burn yourself. They told us if our clothes catch on fire we should stop, drop and roll to make the fire go out and DON’T pull our clothes off our body, if you do it will result in your skin being torn off. The reason fireworks are so dangerous is because they are made from the same substances as a bomb and could set your whole house on fire! Over all they told us to just be really sensible and mature, not accept anything like fireworks and BE SAFE!
Japanese Society Visit (by Callum!)
On Wednesday a person called Callum came in from the Japanese society in Edinburgh to talk to us about Japan. He had been to Japan many times and really helped us with our learning.
First he showed us a power point on food, transport and other amazing things about Japan. He then told us about how the tsunami in 2011 had devastated a town on the coast called Kamaishi and how it is slowly rebuilding itself.
After that he showed us loads of cool objects that Japanese people would have. Such as fans, chop sticks, clothes, toys and some strange foods.
We are really grateful for this experience and we are really thankful to Callum.

Hockey Festival
On Tuesday the 28th of October we went to the high school to take part in a hockey festival with Halyrood and St Ronans. Each team played four games against different teams. There was seven Kingsland teams, six St Ronans teams and two Halyrood teams. Everyone really enjoyed playing and cheering each other on and we would defiantly recommend it to the P6’s next year!
P3 Problem Solving
P3 did the Three Monkeys Addition Problem
Three monkeys ate a total of 25 nuts,
Each of them ate a different odd number of nuts.
How many nuts did each monkey eat?
Some of our answers:
5 + 3 + 17 = 25
5 + 9 + 11 = 25
19 + 1 + 5 = 25
7 + 5 + 13 = 25
7 + 3 + 15 = 25
1 + 9 + 15 = 25
1 + 11 + 13 = 25
We found that
- using cubes helped some pairs
- using bonds of ten and twenty helped
- after we used a bond of twenty plus 5 we could use it again to make a bond of 10 plus 15 e.g. 7 + 13 + 5 so 7 + 3 + 15
It was fun!
P7 helper in P3
We have loved having Will to help us in class today. He’s been so kind and helpful. He has helped lots of boys and girls with their reading and maths. He played keyword Bingo with a group. Mrs. Thomson would love to have him in class every week.
THANK YOU so much Will.
Sadie: He helped us all lots and we will all miss him.
Holly: Will helped the Ahlbergs read and he helped in Maths.
Jade: It was good to have a P7 who knows his stuff. When we were reading a recount he told us it needs to be in chronological order. That’s the order that it happened in.
Matthew: It was fun reading the playscript with Will. I was being Chip. Will was a narrator.
