Hello from P7B!

We have had a busy, Christmassy week in P7B!

In Maths, we have continued to work on division and multiplying decimals. We have also started to learn about money and had an interesting discussion about where we see money in everyday life.

In Literacy we read a variety of texts in our groups and made questions for each other and created a new page for our book.

For writing have started to make our own collection of Christmas stories as we explore narrative writing. Our first story is based on The Snowman. We have watched he film and split it into three parts. We have all worked hard to write the story and add illustrations . Our next story within our book will be based on a small book called ‘Christmas Gingerbread’ and we will be creating a diary for a busy elf who helps Father Christmas!

For Expressive Arts, we have been practising our song for our virtual performance and have made props to use. We have also been making Christmas cards with our new watercolour paints and using clay to make  Christmas present . This will all come home soon in a Christmas bundle!

We were all very proud of the children who participated in the Sportshall Athletics competition on Wednesday morning. All of the participants gave 100% effort in all activities, were well-behaved and polite. A big thank you to Mrs Fletcher and Paul Murray for their help in training for the event and to Mrs Istephan who took the children down to the Gytes. Well done everyone!

Congratulations to our Sportshall Team

Our P6 and 7 Sportshall athletes went to the Gytes on Wednesday to compete in the local competition.  All the children represented Kingsland very well and we came a close 2nd to Priorsford. Both schools are now through to the next round, which will be in late January.  Well done to all of you for your fantastic sportsmanship.

Sportshall

Kingsland came 2nd at the sportshall competition yesterday and will progress to the regional stages of the competition in January. Congratulations to all who took part and good luck for the next stage of the competition. Go Team Kingsland! 👍😀

Life in space recount

Life in space by Celeste

Me and my family have now been in space for just over 10 months.  We have just passed Neptune! It was as blue as the sea. We are venturing further into our space journey.

The food in space is okay but it is very dry and as crunchie as the bark from an Oak tree. It doesn’t really smell of anything, even the space sweets don’t smell. There is no water in anything so it is like you are eating sand. We have to drink out of pouches with a straw in it.

There are a lot of rooms in the rocket. When we first got in the rocket it felt like a maze. My bedroom is tiny and I need to strap myself in at night to my bed.  One time Plouto didn’t get strapped in his bed properly so when I woke up I found him floating around still sleeping. The toilet is really odd! It’s like a vacuum with a cup on the end.

The gym is very important for keeping us healthy. There is an exercise bike and it doesn’t even have a seat! There is a treadmill and it is vertical so it looks like you might fall off. Lastly there is a weight lifting machine. That is very important to keep your arms strong.

On the rocket there is a lot of work to do like fixing wires and screwing in screws. We sometimes need to do work on the outside. When that happens we have to do a space walk. It is often nerve wracking but not all the time.

Being in space is very fun but it is also hard work because there are a lot of jobs to do.

Creating Stories with P1a by P7a

As part of our work for Book Week Scotland a couple of weeks ago, Primary 7A made story cubes for the Primary ones.  Last Thursday we worked in groups with pairs of P1 pupils to use these story cubes to make up fantastic tales together.  We had lots of fun and then acted out the stories and finished off by reading some books together.

P7 are now going to use the ideas from P1 to make their own books to share at a later date.

Buddy the elf

Buddy the elf arrived in our class this week. He asked us to take an “elfie” so he had a photo of the class. We are looking forward to seeing what he gets up to over the next few weeks.
