Comment on Primary 6 homework by Paddy Thomson

My inspiration is Danny Macaskill because he has a growth mind set and he will never give up with his biking career and he will keep on doing his flips and tricks
MacAskill had been practising several hours per day for more than 12 years. He gave up his job as a mechanic so he could ride full-time and now lives in Glasgow.
During his biking career the most difficulties he has faced were injuries he has broken a lot of bones. He overcame this by having a rest then getting back on his bike.

New books in Primary 1

We were very excited to receive some new books for our class library which we had chosen from our Book Fair. We look forward to sharing them together and using our reading skills to help us to complete different activities related to  our new books.

Brilliant Books!

Today each class received a bumper bundle of books that the school were able to buy from the book fair. P5/4 were very excited to receive books from some of our favourite authors. After lunch we took the books that we are reading in class and found a sunny little nook to sit and read. This block we are looking forward to exploring reading different books in different places and discussing them as a class.

Garden stay and play

Last week we had a Garden stay and play where we welcomed in parents/carer to help in our garden.

Our helpers were digging, weeding, planting potatoes, building a greenhouse and enjoying some new areas in our garden.

A huge thank you to all the helpers, our garden is looking great!

In the next few weeks we are hoping to plant some more vegetables and plants – Any donations would be gratefully received!

Primary 7 go ‘out and about’ in Peebles

Over the next couple of months, Primary 7 will be visiting a variety of interesting places within their local community.  They will  research historical and current information that will help deepen their understanding of where they live, the role they play in their community and ways services and industry have adapted to change throughout the years.

The children will use the information gathered to write scripts that will be used to deliver guided tours of Peebles.  We are also hoping to create an interactive website that will allow members of the public to access specific information about points of interest throughout Peebles.

So far we have visited; Chambers Institute, Market Cross, Cross Keys Inn, Peebles Hydro, Old Station and Holland and Sherry.

In the weeks to come we will also visit; Cross Kirk, Neidpath Castle, Neidpath Viaduct, Parish Church, Peebles Community Centre and Episcopal Church.

Peebles Tour Guides

We visited Holland and Sherry and the old Peebles train station yesterday as part of our visits to landmarks in Peebles. We have already visited Peebles Hydro, Chambers Institution, Cross Keys Inn and the Mercat Cross. We were amazed at the amount of people who work in the Holland and Sherry building and couldn’t believe the amount of places that they ship to in the world. We have been very lucky with the weather and enjoyed spending time at the train model to learn about the old Peebles railway. We are busy writing our scripts and preparing to take our parents on their tour of Peebles.

3D Shape Fun in the Sun

Primary 1 has been learning about the properties of 3D shapes. We have been exploring the key features of spheres, cylinders, cubes, cuboids, cones and pyramids. We enjoyed investigating and sorting which shapes roll and which do not.

We made the most of the lovely weather on Monday by venturing round to the P3/4 playground and using the Big Blue Blocks to build structures. We also used the smaller wooden and plastic blocks to make houses, castles and bridges.

Which 3D shapes can you find in your home?

How many faces does the shape have? Are the faces round or flat? Does it roll?

What is the best soil for plant growth?

We have set up an experiment to find out what is the best soil for plant growth.  Is it top soil, peat, compost with zinc or compost with potassium?  We made sure that we had only one variable – the soil and everything else was exactly the same (amount of water, amount soil, pot and seeds).

We have predicted what soil we think will produce the best plant growth and we are really looking forward to observing the growth of the sunflower seeds.
