We talked a about how to keep ourselves SAFE at the park, and how walking to the park and playing in the play park is a good way to keep HEALTHY and ACTIVE.

Lots more photos and quote in our floorbook, check it out in the ELC cloakroom!

Careers week in ELC

We are looking forward to having a few visitors in ELc this week as part of our Schools careers week.

Today, the morning children welcomed Elis mum Amy in, to talk about her job at the bank of Scotland.

She had a uniform on and talked about bank accounts and different coins and money.

We are going to take this forward next term to look at money and coins.

Thanks Amy!

Careers Week visitor 2 in P2A

Thank you to Amy MacLinton for speaking to P2A about her job in the Bank of Scotland.

We enjoyed hearing the story about Billy trying hard to save up his money and all the pitfalls he had along the way. In the end he persevered and saved up enough money for his crocodile. This made us think about money in our own lives and how difficult it can be to save for things we want to buy- we have to have a lot of patience.

It was great fun weighing the money on the scales and we surprised ourselves when  we completed  a worksheet about counting up Billy’s coins. We managed to get most of them correct! Our next step is to work out change and do take away sums with money and set up a little shop/bank in our classroom next term.

How will this help us with our money skills?

Thank you also for our Bank of Scotland goody bags with treats inside. This was another lovely surprise.

Career week visitor to P6a

Thank you to Will’s dad who came in today to tell us about being a vet. We learnt that animals have the same body systems that we do and the same sensory organs. We have been studying these in our topic work. We learnt that  Will’s dad loves his job and that the biggest animal that he has treated is an enormous horse!

Thank you for coming in to speak to us – we enjoyed hearing all about your  interesting job.

Career week visitors

Primary 6a had a treat this morning. Mr Herd and Mrs Cruickshanks are both engineers and they visited our class today to tell us all about their jobs. We learnt that they have to do problem solving in their jobs and they then set us a challenge- to build a tower out of marshmallows and spaghetti. The highest tower was 48 cms. Well done to everybody for their teamwork and for clearing up afterwards. There was spaghetti everywhere!! What fun we all had and we would like to say a big thank you to them both.

Careers week day 1

P4b had a very exciting start to careers week with a visit from Police Constable Taylor.  He told us a bit about his job, his uniform and some of the equipment he uses.  We got to try on some of his protective clothing and Mrs Stevenson got handcuffed for being bad!
