There seems to be an issue with displaying glow RSS feeds in the RSS widget on glow blogs.
Glow RSS Feeds display on external wordpress sites in RSS widgets.
External sites RSS display on glow blogs in the widgets (for example several feeds are displayed on this help blog). Glow Blog RSS Feeds do not display on the RSS feed widget on another Glow Blog.
If you have several RSS widgets that use Glow Blog feeds on your blog it will slow the page load down. It is a good idea to remove them until we get a fix. You should drag them to the ‘Inactive Widgets’ area so that you do not lose the settings.
This issue is probably related to infrastructure and a fix will be rolled out in our update cycle, sometime after phase 1.1
This was patch release on the blogs service to fix a few issues.
We had anticipated that the release would involve approximately 2 hours downtime when the blog service will be unavailable. In the event the server was only down for around 5 minutes.
Fixes for the following issues were successfully applied:
Suffusion theme problem with featured posts turned on.
Message on Create a blog page incorrect for 3 local authorities.
First time Glow blogs user cannot see the ‘My Blogs’ link on the landing page, even when they have been assigned a blog.
Regulus Theme: Comments from external uses failing to work.
Fatal errors when using the Unite theme.
There were some infrastructure changes to improve performance generally.
We had hopped that the WP-SpamFree plugin would be activated as a site wide plugin that will be automatically activated for all public blogs. Testing before the release showed that activating the spamfree plugin site wide affected performance. Therefore it has been left as a user plugin. This means to be protected from spam you still need to activate the plugin on all public sites that accept comments.
We have started preliminary work on Phase 2, the upgrade to WordPress 4.
A brand new blog user on their first login is not able to see the ‘My Blogs’ link from the landing page, although a fellow glow user has given them access to a blog using the ‘add user screen’. They can only see ‘Create a blog’ link and hence will be compelled to ‘Create a blog’ to get through to their dashboard or to even log out for that matter.
A fix for this will be put in place in a subsiquent release.
Use a link to the blog, on first time access. This means if you create a blog and add users, direct the mstraight to the blog via url the first time.
The Suffusion Theme has been retired July 2015. If your blog already used the them it will continue to do so. The Theme will not be available in the Theme Picker. At a later date we will completely remove the theme. Plenty of warning will be given.
