Happy Mercredi everyone!

We hope you are well and are enjoying the activities on the grids that were given out yesterday. We can’t wait to see what you share with us on your learning journals. Remember do what you can and also fit in time for play, relaxing and helping out around the house.

The Rights Respecting School article for this week is focusing on Article 28 – the right to education. Every child has the right to an education. Primary education must be free and different forms of secondary education must be available to every child. Discipline in schools must respect children’s dignity and their rights. Richer countries must help poorer countries achieve this.

Give yourself one minute to think of as many reasons as you can why education is important for children and young people. You can think about how it helps you! What does it help you with? What might it mean for your future?

Here are some activities you can try:

  • Imagine you have been asked to create your ideal lesson timetable for a day or a week at home or in school. Plan it out and decide what you would include and what you would leave out. Make sure it will provide children with a really good quality education!
  • What do you think makes a good teacher? This video might give you some ideas! Draw an outline of your ideal teacher and surround it with words that describe what that teacher is like.
  • Teachers and learners go together! So now think about what makes a good learner? Imagine you are talking to a younger brother, sister or friend who is about to start school. Describe to them how to be a really good learner! Invent a cartoon character to represent this good learner.

I like the idea of drawing and writing down what makes a good teacher and a good learner. If you have time to do this activity we would love to see your ideas on your learning journals.

Write a diary entry of at least half a page of A4 about a day in space. What would you do during the day, what things would you see, who would you speak to and what would you say, how would you enjoy yourselves, what would it feel like and how would a day on the ISS make you feel? Remember to SHOW the reader what you see and do, don’t just tell them. Use your descriptions and choose the best words!

Maths: For today’s maths we are looking at Tesselation. Tesselation is the creation of patterns using shapes tiled together, e.g.

Your challenge is to create your own tesselation pattern. You can draw the shapes, using a ruler for straight lines, you can use Paint or another art programme on your computer, or you could go outside and create a tesselated pattern in your garden using natural materials.

Good Morning Primary 2,

How is everyone today? Did you have a nice long weekend? Miss Pringle managed out some long walks with her dog and Miss Rafferty kept up her running and virtual keep fit classes. Did you do any exercise you could add to our Travel to Tokyo challenge? The instructions are attached below if you did – every little helps!

I hope you had a restful Monday and are ready for some new activities this week.

Reminders for this week:

  • We have our class online check-in tomorrow on Teams at 10am.
  • Carmondean Primary School have registered with Get Set. This will allow families to get active together at home and log their activity to their school team. There will be chances to win weekly prizes, for teams to beat weekly goals and also share their activity to win amazing prizes like fitness trackers. Article of the week:

Article 28 – The Right to an Education.

Some of the activities include watching: Be a Mr Jenson for inspiration on what makes a good teacher. Can you think of words to describe what a really good teacher would be like?

Do the same as above, but this time, think of words to describe what a really good learner would be like.

Imagine you have been asked to create your ideal lesson timetable for a day or a week at home or in school. Plan it out and decide what you would include and what you would leave out. Make sure it will provide children with a really good quality education!

Watch The Right to Education and use it to write a poem about education and learning.

Go have a look at The Book of Hopes and read through some of the poems and short stories together. Choose one you like best and teach someone else about it and why it stood out to you.

Good morning Primary 1!

We hope you had a lovely long weekend and enjoyed getting some fresh air. The Primary 1 teachers have been very busy. Miss Cunningham went out for some walks and spotted a few ducks and Miss Daun went out for a cycle to the reservoir. Miss Christy went for a walk in the Pentlands with her dog and she spotted some of the zebras from Edinburgh Zoo on her walk up Corstorphine hill! Here are some pictures of what we were up to:

  

We are all missing you all very much and it has been lovely to see how well you are all getting on at home. We are all proud of how hard you are working and thank you again for all of your lovely feedback on the Learning Journals.

This week in literacy we are having a consolidation week. This means that we will be revisiting some of the sounds we have learned already to make sure they are fully understood. We will be looking at the ee, oo and ck sounds this week and you will find the blending activity attached below. For reading we decided to create a little non-fiction book for you about farming. Bonjour et happy vendredi Primary 3! The weather has been lovely to finish the week off and I hope that for your long weekend the weather continues to stay bright and beautiful and you can all get out in your gardens or take a safe and socially distant walk around some of your favourite walking spots!

Remember that Monday is a holiday so no work will be posted and we don’t expect you to do anything work related at all, enjoy the extra day and we will look forward to hearing all about your long weekend next week when we get back!

If the weather does turn bad, or if you find yourself with some extra time on your hands and you’re feeling creative, why not try this painting and drawing activity. First take a paper and a paintbrush and a paint colour of your choice. Then just let your brush wander over the paper and for even more randomness don’t look at the paper when you are putting paint on it. Then use the random patterns you’ve made to create a picture using coloured pens/ pencils/ crayons/ different paints? The great thing is this will be different every time! Your new challenge this week is based on the ‘transport’ aspect of technology you chose to learn about. We hope you are successfully making your way through the learning grids. Remember just do what you can! We hope the weather will improve and get warmer over the weekend which means you can get outside for your exercise and walks with your family. Spelling Test

On a Friday we normally do a little test on the phonics words you have been learning for the week. Why don’t you get an adult or older sibling to test you on your words, can you get full marks? You could also ask them to give you a sentence with some of your spelling words in it to see if you can write the whole sentence down. Let us know how you get on!

Happy Wednesday Primary 3, we hope you have been having a great week so far, we have loved seeing all of your great work and the activities you have been up to. We have had pictures, paintings, videos, even a short clip of Carson doing a backflip! We are loving your creativity and it is so impressive to see how much you are doing with your time away from doing work, well done everyone!

Today we have a challenge to set you all in light of not having the Olympics and Paralympics this year. You will need to find your school and then record what you’ve done and how long you did it for and there are possible prizes up for grabs!

Your maths today is all about looking at the area of a shape. The area is the space inside a shape. So imagine that all shapes are made up of little squares, to find the area you count all the squares. When writing your answers for the area of a shape you write it as cm² – the small 2 means ‘squared’. There will be shapes in future activities that don’t have squares drawn on and then you need to use multiplication, however we will worry about that when we get there! I will also put up an area instructional video in Teams to help you! Choose your own challenge level:

Good morning Primary 1!

We hope you are all having a lovely time at home and are continuing to enjoy all of this beautiful sunshine. We hope you have all managed to access the 3 weekly learning grids and are enjoying exploring some of the activities on there. Make sure you are still leaving lots of time for relaxing, playing and helping out at home too.

The Rights Respecting School article of the week is focusing on Article 14 – Freedom of thought, belief and religion. Have a conversation about times your views have been listened to and your choices respected. Can you name all of the places you feel welcome? Now it’s time to choose from one of the RRS suggested activities for this week:

  • Thoughts and beliefs are usually really important to people. Write down some things you believe in strongly. Share these with your family or discuss them with your friends.
  • Food choices are really important to some people. Find out about the food rules of veganism or a specific religion. If you have the ingredients at home, why don’t you have a go at making a dish with your family? Watch this video from the BBC and its humorous exploration of food and religion
  • List as many religions as you can think of. Do you know what symbols are linked with these religions? Have a go at drawing them if you can.
  • Why do you think religious buildings are important? Think of and draw a building that is important to you or make a sculpture of one of these buildings using things you can find around the house (old cereal boxes, empty toilet roll etc.). This could be a religious building like a church or a temple, or even a school or a library. Write a sentence or two about why this building is important to you.

Governments must respect the rights and responsibilities of parents to guide their child as they grow up.

Here are a couple of activities you could do this week to learn more about the right to think and believe what they choose:

  • List as many religions as you can think of. Do you know what symbols are linked with these religions? Have a go at drawing them if you can.
  • Why do you think religious buildings are important? Think of and draw a building that is important to you or make a sculpture of one of these buildings using things you can find around the house (old cereal boxes, empty toilet roll etc.). This could be a religious building like a church or a temple, or even a school or a library. Write a sentence or two about why this building is important to you.

Good morning Primary 3, we hope you are well and we are excited to share some work and some of the VE celebrations pictures we have received yesterday. It is always so uplifting to see the work you’ve been doing and we would love to post every single thing you’ve sent to us, however unfortunately we cannot upload everything due to blog upload restrictions. Here is a selection of photos, including Thomas and his family’s VE celebrations which looked like so much fun and Poppy creating her potato space art, it’s out of this world!

 

We would also like to remind you that tomorrow at 10am we will be having our Teams check-in. We thought to change the time to the morning and see how it goes, if the afternoon suits people better we will return to the afternoon and if the morning is better we can keep it to then? We are looking forward to chatting with you all and seeing how you are getting on, we miss you all!

This week our Rights Respecting School article is Article 14 – Freedom of thought, belief and religion. This article guarantees every child’s right to think and believe what they choose and to practice their religion, as long as they are not stopping others from enjoying their rights.

Good morning Primary 1s

Today is Mardi. Can you say that? Have a look outside the window and see if you can describe the weather in French. Here are some helpful phrases:

Quel temps fait-il?  (What is the weather like?)

Il fait beau (It is nice)

Il fait froid (it is cold)

Il fait gris (it is grey)

Il fait chaud (it is hot)

Il pleut (it’s raining)

Il neige (it’s snowing)

If you want a reminder of how to say some of these words and some alternative phrases, this video will help

There are a lot more phrases in this video than we would normally teach, but it is helpful to listen to French being spoken to understand pronunciation. Have a go repeating the French phrases and don’t worry if you can’t remember them all!

It is a super music lesson where you will learn to create different rhythms. The teachers had a go and found it really tricky! Hopefully you can do better than us!

Happy Monday Primary 3! We hope you have had a fantastic weekend and you made the most of it. Did you celebrate VE day? If you did let us know how you celebrated, we’d love to get some photos up on the blog to show off! Thank you for all of your hard work it has been great to see all the work you have been sending us in, we couldn’t be prouder of all of you!

For today how about creating a space scene using paint, paper and potatoes. If you have any potatoes that you aren’t going to eat, cut the potatoes into a range of shapes (with adult help!) that are space themed and you can design a planet and some aliens that could live on your potato are planet.
