Welcome to our first nursery Blog of 2021.

We have had quite a busy few months since our return to a full nursery.  We are still operating in 2 bubbles whilst also ensuring good hygiene practises.  The children have fully embraced our handwashing routines.

In nursery the children in the Red,Green,Blue & Orange bubble have had opportunities to learn about Farm animals and their babies.   We  researched the  foods we eat that come from some of those animals, e.g milk, eggs, cheese, burgers & sausages and asked lots of  questions.  How does the milk get from the cow to the supermarket?, how do you make cheese?, what animal gives us meat?.  We then chose some food we would like to taste.  Next, we are going to  investigate what happens to the food we don’t eat.

In our other bubble the children have had opportunities to learn about mini beasts and their habitats.  They have enjoyed looking under stones, logs and pots to see what animals live there.  Mrs Killips has set up a bug hotel with the help of the children, using their ideas as to how it should look.  (it looks like a 4 *hotel for bugs).  The children have made some good suggestions as to what they think bugs eat. The children are now becoming excited about Christmas.  There has been lots of chat about Christmas trees being put up at home, letters being written to Santa and visits from those naughty little elves.  In nursery we have put up the tree along with help from the children to decorate it.  They have also been hand printing reindeers, painting xmas tree pictures, designing xmas trees and various other crafty ideas, so look forward to lots of glitter, tinsel and other glitzy things arriving home shortly.

On Wednesday 9th Dec the Pre-school Vision screening team will be in nursery to carry out eye checks on children.  If you haven’t returned your forms can you please do so by Tuesday  8th December.  If your child has a full day place at nursery but does not attend on the Wednesday we will arrange with the vision screening team a time for those children to attend.

The Tea- towels have arrived in nursery and will be distributed by the end of this week.  They look great and will be a fantastic gift for family members or just to keep as a reminder of your child’s time at nursery.

The weekly nursery story has now been uploaded to the children’s Learners journey.  Please let us know if you enjoyed the story by giving a thumbs up or by adding a wee reply.  We do look forward to hearing from you.  Also while on the Learners journey you will see a link to the gallery where you can access more pictures that the staff have added.

Well another busy week at nursery.   In Bubble 1 :-  The children are still enjoying investgating the roles of emergency services and have moved onto the roles of police officers.   I think Mrs Killips was about to be arrested and sent to jail !!!

In Bubble 2 the children are still exploring Space and the adventures they can have there.  They have painted pictures of Alien’s and built a space station and rocket.

The children have also had lots of fun exploring how water moves when they run through the puddles and when jumping in them.  It’s amazing how far the muddy water can travel !!!

This week some new resources have  been added to the garden outside.  There was a giant spoon, a big tin tub, some potion bottles, a giant teapot and some big scoops.  This stimulated lots of interesting conversations as to where it may have come from and who might have used it.   The big man in the red suit has been topic of conversation and Rudolph needed the big tub for his tea.  Watch this space …….

The practitioners in nursery have decided to re-start our story of the week on the Learners Journey’s.  Each week a different member of the team will read a story and upload it on a Sunday.  As we can’t have the Big Bedtime read at the moment we felt this was a good way for you and your child to enjoy an alternative bedtime story.  Please let us know if you enjoyed it.  Mrs Tartaglia will be the first person to read to you all this week.

REMINDER:- Monday 30th November is now the final day for TEA TOWEL money orders to be handed in.  This t-towel has only nursery children’s drawings on it, there are NO school children’s drawings on it.  It’s a fantastic gift or reminder of your child’s year at nursery.  Thank you for your continued support.

In nursery at the moment staff are working in 2 bubbles.

Bubble 1 groups:- Pink -Miss Robertson, Yellow -Miss Marsh, Orange – Miss Jarvie & Purple – Mrs Killips.

Bubble 1 have been very busy learning about the jobs people do in the Emergency services.  They began by looking at the fire service to help with their understanding of the role of a fire fighter.   The children enthusiastically embraced their role as firefighters putting out fires, saving peoples lives while learning new language as they played.  The children also made a fire engine outside in the garden area using blocks, crates and various loose parts.

Bubble 2  :- Mrs Tartaglia – Red group,  Mrs Clark – Green group,  Miss Allen – Pink group.

Bubble 2 have  been extremely busy looking at our solar system, finding out the names of planets and building rockets and space stations.  We are amazed at the amount of knowledge some of the children have in this subject.   In the block play area we have had fabulous rockets and space stations being built.  We have used the Ipads to help us gather information about the planets and visited Youtube  on the Interactive whiteboard where we were able to visit Nasa and watch the launch of the space shuttle Challenger.

A Covid reminder to parents :-  As we are now in Tier 4  can we advise All Parents that you are required to wear a face covering when dropping off and picking up your child from nursery.  Please also remember to keep to the 2m rule when passing another person on the pathway.  This is to ensure the safety of yourself, your child and the staff in nursery.    Can we also remind you that you should accompany your child to the nursery gate where a member of staff will be  standing waiting to collect your child.

Fundraiser :-  We have put together a lovely Tea Towel with all the children’s drawings  of themselves on it.  This is a fabulous memory of your child’s time at nursery.  It is also a great Christmas gift idea to give to grandparents, aunties and yourselves.  The price is £4.50 per tea towel, please order as many as you can as this will go towards our garden re-vamp.  All orders and monies must be received by Thursday 26th November.  Keep an eye on the Nursery notice board to see the finished product when it arrives.

Thank you for your continued support.

There was some excitement in nursery this week as we were busy taking part in Halloween activities throughout the nursery.  Outside we had pumpkins and golf tees to support our hand- eye co-ordination as we hammered the tees into the pumpkins.  There was lots of discussion about how to use the hammer safely  along with the safety glasses, questions asked were:- what could happen if they hit/missed the tee?  what did they think the pumpkin looked like with all the tees in it?  We had scary creatures in the water tray and we could also paint the pumpkins with paint and make scary faces on them.

There was also opportunities to make scary spider iced biscuits,  dance to the Skeleton dance, listen to scary stories in the darkened room and join in with a variety of art and craft activities.

Finally we made some pumpkin soup and ate it with some lovely warm crusty bread.   It went down a storm with lots of fabulous vocabulary to show their appreciation……delicious, yummy, amazing and scrumptious were some of the descriptive words used.
