Cleaning water

Today we were scientists and carried out a water cleaning experiment!

First, we got a cup of clean water. Next, we went outside and made our water as filthy as possible. This was great fun!

Finally, we worked out that we needed to develop a filtering system with holes that would trap larger objects but let the water drip through. Well done Finlay for describing this.

We said that we couldn’t drink our water even if it looked clean because there might be bacteria in it that could harm us.

Well done p5 for discovering and learning!

Eco schools/Scottish Water live lesson

We spent the morning in three different workshops as part of a biodiversity live lesson on water. We have been learning about the water cycle so this was really inspiring.

workshop 1 was live from the penguin enclosure at Edinburgh zoo. We learned about the work the zoo is doing to help penguin conservation. We learned about the different ways penguins care for their eggs and we learned about an endangered species – flapper skates.

workshop 2 was from a storyteller Allison Galbraith where we joined in with sound effects for a mythical creature story. There are many Scottish mythical water creatures, selfies, kelpies, Loch Ness monster and stoor worms!

workshop 3 was all about the water footprint of everyday objects. Did you know that it takes 3 litres of water and a quarter litre of oil to produce a litre of bottled water? We learned about ways to reduce water waste and how to be more aware that products use water in the manufacturing process.

Here are some moments from the day.

Wonderful prize

We have just received our selection of Gill Lewis books which we won during a live online biodiversity lesson a few weeks ago. Now we just need to decide which one to read first!

A Right Royal Knees Up! 👑

Primary Seven A and B joined forces this afternoon for some games on the field. We saw some brilliant teamwork and encouragement from all of the children, as well as some exceptional football, tennis, hockey and rounders skills. Well done everyone!

After break we enjoyed some lemonade and Victoria sponge cakes, followed by the choice of Jubilee or Beltane crafts.

Wishing you all a wonderful long weekend, whatever your plans. See you all on Monday!

Back in the building with p5a parents

We opened our doors again at last today and welcomed parents into our classroom. It was wonderful to work together with our mums and dads and talk about our learning.

There were 4 activities; create a crown for the jubilee tea party, draw a graph of some class data we collected, try our jubilee quiz and make a miniature water cycle model.

We ended with a demonstration of our drum sticks that we made with Mat the Hat.

Thanks to everyone who came along, it made our day!

Happy Platinum Jubilee celebrations!

P4 and P5 had a fun jubilee tea party this afternoon. Everyone turned a cupcake into a Victoria sponge and wore royal crowns or ties. We sat outside to have cake, strawberries and juice together before being sent on a treasure hunt by her majesty Mrs Stevenson!
Finally we danced in the playground which was great fun. Well done everyone!

P7B’s Brilliant Week 27.5.22

Blog written collaboratively by the class.

This week we have been:

  • Writing a piece in response to an event from last week
  • We had a Prefect Break with P7A. We were outside and some of us played football, danced, found caterpillars, chatted and walked.
  • We enjoyed our Open Morning with some parents visiting. Our task was to build 1980s cars that could move on different surfaces.
  • We had to complete THREE High School Maths assessments. We were also learning about chance and probability in maths.
  • We created pop art style stamps of 1980s musicians.
  • Many of us started our roles as Active Sports leaders, following on from our training. We led sessions with P2s and 3s down on the field. We have had some very positive feedback from the children so well done!
  • Our spelling sound this week was nk and ng.
  • We completed our penultimate week of prefect duties.

Between now and the end of term, we are looking forward to:

  • Last week of prefect duties
  • We are allowed to go onto the field
  • Summer Holidays
  • Leavers’ Assembly
  • Lunch on the balcony
  • Two day visit to High school
  • Beltane

Have a wonderful weekend P7. Thank you for your continued hard work 🙂

I-pad trip to Kelso

On Wednesday we had a great trip to Kelso to take part in a day planned by the inspire team. We used our I-pads to complete different activities and are looking forward to furthering these skills back in the classroom.
It was so nice to be on a trip out of the classroom after 2 years.

Back in the building…

Our highlight of the week was welcoming parents back into the classroom. We had a great time showing off our photography skills and getting parents involved with the activities. The photos show the work we are most proud of today.

Thank-you to all the parents who made it in today.
