Weekly update #1

To start of this weekly report is our art correspondent Jay.

In art we have been doing a mythical creature named the griffin which is half lion half eagle hybrid. Here are some quotes and thoughts of other people in primary 7: “I loved everything about it because I love  art”-Blaise, Ryan M was super pleased with his griffin and last but not least on Friday we drew Roald Dahl’s Willy Wonka and the Oompa Loompas with Quentin Blake which we really enjoyed.

This week in sport with Owen.

So this Thursday in hockey we were practising reverse stick and dribbling skills everyone was very good but when it got to games it was very good. first of the yellows had a great performance v the reds and won 2-0 with goals from Alex and Anna won it for them. next the yellows went on to play the blues and an early goal from paddy made a 1-0 win over the yellows. Finally the blues went to play the reds and an early goal from Paddy put them 1-0 up but a pass from Joe led to an equaliser by Owen for the reds but 20 seconds from full time a brilliant team goal led to a last minute goal by Finlay Burns.

We asked most of P7 what they are most looking forward to about Dalguise. We got lots of answers but  most of them were about the giant swing, seeing the rooms and eating the food which we are sure will be really tasty.

Last of all we asked P7 what they have enjoyed the most so far in P7. We got lots of great answers including drawing our dragons in art, our Prefect training and P.E. with Mrs. Fletcher.

P2/3’s Roald Dahl Day

We were introduced to a design brief and ours was to design a new sweet or chocolate and it’s wrapper. we heard part of a Roald Dahl story first- ” Wonderful Mr. Willy Wonka.”

We were really excited about getting our ideas onto paper. Then we discussed it and made improvements on our design before drawing our neat copy.

Keep an eye out for what we do with our designs next week!

Roald Dahl Day

We read ‘The Giraffe, The Pelly and Me’ by Roald Dahl. We looked at some of the themes and focussed on the theme of dreams. In the book the characters all have their dreams come true, with the character of Billy getting his dream of opening a sweet shop full of fantastical sweets! We were so inspired that decided to design our own amazing sweets! This process by looking at real life context and studying a variety of actual sweets to get some ideas about look, texture, smell, sound and (best of all) taste! We decided to use some our the descriptive language that we’ve been learning about when we’ve been looking at and writing descriptive texts this block to help us describe our sweets. Inspired by this we then created our own marvellous sweety designs, thinking about amazing names and special features they might have. Below are a sample of some of the ideas the class came up with…yum!

Roald Dahl Celebrations in P6B

Happy Birthday Roald Dahl!!

P6B have had a great day celebrating.  We read ‘Along the Corridor’  from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.  Then we watched the section in the movie Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory.

Then we discussed our favourite Roald Dahl characters and created collage characters.

Throughout the morning we made lickable wallpaper from chocolate and sprinkles.

This was probably the most fun day ever. I loved making the lickable wallpaper.  Charlie, Thomas

I really enjoyed making the Roald Dahl character. Frazer and I made Augustus Gloop.  I also enjoyed making the lickable wallpaper.   Oliver R

Frazer would like to have the lickable wallpaper on his wall at home.

Rana would like to be able to break pieces off wallpaper at home and have a little taste.  She also enjoyed licking the spoon today.

Everyone is really excited to taste their wallpaper.  It looks so good.

Happy Birthday Roald Dahl.

Bethany and Summer are creating Lucy the girl from The Magic Finger.

Roald Dahl Day in P3

We celebrated Roald Dahl today by entering Willy Wonka’s Chocolate Factory to investigate the sweets. We needed to use our senses to describe each sweet. The last sense we used was taste. Ask us what we discovered!

Teamwork in P3

During the first few weeks of school we spent time learning to work as a team. One of our activities involved hula hoops. We had to get the hoop around our group without letting go of hands. Mrs Dundas was very impressed with us!
