On Wednesday P7 got together and enjoyed a Burn’s Supper as part of our Scottish focus. We celebrated by eating traditional haggis, neeps and tatties as well as some shortbread. We were treated to poetry recitals, highland dancing and some musical entertainment. We concluded the afternoon by singing Auld Lang Syne. Well done to all involved. It was great fun!
Scottish Landmarks – bridges!
As part of our 2 week focus on Scotland P5b attempted to recreate each of the iconic Scottish bridges using artstraws – can you tell which is which?

Looks like everyone had a fantastic time, either in the school grounds or exploring Haylodge park. I’m glad the bears were friendly! Lovely snack idea too! Looking forward to seeing photos of your next adventure.
We’re Going On A Bear Hunt!
ELC had a fantastic time today on our first Muddy Monday of the year! We explored the park and school grounds and found lots of places that reminded us of the story, including some long grass and lots of oozy mud! We even spotted a bear or two- luckily they were friendly! Thanks to the grown up helpers who came along to help today, we hope you had fun! Click on the pictures below to view our photo gallery.
Lego Robotics Workshop with Skills Development Scotland
We had a brilliant time today with David who came to visit from Skills Development Scotland. He told us all about Driverless Cars and the skills we might have which could lead to a future career in their production and design. We got to use Lego Mindstorms to explore our own skills and had so much fun we forgot we were learning about Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics, not to mention Problem Solving and Team Work.

Scotland City Leaflets
We have really enjoyed our Scotland mini topic on major Scottish cities. In groups, we were given a Scottish city. We were travel agents and we had to create a name and a logo for our group. We then researched our city to find out about the landmarks and things to do there. We also researched how much budget and luxury hotels cost per night in that city. Then we were given a pretend family and we had to plan a short break in a city that would suit their preferences within a budget. We really enjoyed looking at everyone’s leaflets and calculating how much it would cost to stay in the city. We found that it was tricky to afford everything we wanted to do!

Heat Transfer
Convection Currents
Our experiment
The heat from the radiator warms the air around it. Warm air is less dense than cold air, which means it rises as the cooler, dense air flows down to take its place. This cycle continues in a process known as convection currents. The warm air pushes on the spiral snake, making it turn.
