P1 Sports

We had great fun at our sports day today.

We were running, hurdling, playing basketball, zigzagging around poles and collecting bean bags from hoops!

We all had a great time. Thank you to Mrs Fletcher for organising this for us and our Active Schools Coordinator Paul Murray for helping too. We had great fun!

Summer scenes in P2/1

We’ve had another busy week. On Monday we learned the ‘oi’ sound as in coin, foil and oink! We did a great job cutting out a snail’s coil and have been enjoying the Oi Dog , Oi Cat and Oi Frog stories.

To mark the start of June and the warmer weather this morning we worked together at our tables to make summer scenes using plasticine. We took turns to share our ideas, negotiated a theme  – from an ocean to a garden to a desert island – and then everyone contributed a plasticine model.

The children’s highlights this week have been:

  • Reading Oi Puppies
  • Making the plasticine models
  • Reading
  • PE
  • Lunch!

Review of the week ending 4/6/21

We did a little experiment to observe what happens to cooled water within the water cycle.   We could see condensation as the water collected as droplets on the cold surface and then as the droplets gathered together, the water fell back down as precipitation.

We also observed this in our little experiment with our Water Cycle plastic bag as the sun warmed the water, then it evaporated and condensed and fell back down into the bag.

Cornflour Gloop Fun

It’s a solid  …. It’s a liquid …..  It’s a Non-newtonian liquid!!!!

We had great fun in class working with this non-newtonian liquid.    We are familiar with substances that change state from solids to liquids to gases when we change temperature, such as freezing water into ice or boiling it away into water vapour.  But this mixture shows how changes in pressure, instead of temperature, can change the materials properties.

Mrs Scott took us for PE on Monday and we played lots of different games.  Thankfully Mrs Fletcher was back for PE on Wednesday.

Review of the Week 4.6.21

We have had a very busy week on our iPads putting together our Leavers’ assembly. We can’t wait for everyone to see the finished product!

Other highlights from this week include –

  • Shape work in maths
  • Banksy art
  • Learning some new playground games
  • Continuing our learning on reproduction and inheritance
  • Problem solving
  • Playing on the field
  • Planning for sports day
  • Enjoying the sunshine!

What did you most enjoy this week?

What are you most looking forward to in the last few weeks of school?

How can we make the last few weeks at Kingsland special for you?

Week beginning 31.5.21

We are focusing on telling the time at the moment. We are revising o’clock, half past and quarter to/past and learning to tell the time on an analogue clock at 5 minute intervals.

We have been using the interactive clock in the link below and using 3 steps to identify the time: Is the minute hand on the past or to side of the clock? What hour has the hour hand has gone past or is coming up to? Finally we have been counting in 5’s to identify the minutes?

This Maths Frame game is a fun way of working on this at home too.

Health and wellbeing:

We have been thinking and talking about disability. This was explained to the children: A disability is when a person finds it difficult (or maybe impossible) to walk, see, hear, speak, learn or do other important things. Some disabilities last forever, some just last for a while.  A disability can be something a person was born with, or it can be because the person has been ill or had an accident.

We are learning and talking about disability because we want our school and our class to be a place where every child is welcome and learning and has friends. We watched some short films to help us learn.  Here are the links.  Your child might be happy to watch them again with you.
