P6A Review of Week ending 4/12/20

We have been working hard researching different Body Systems.  We made and used our notes to create information reports.

We have been learning about the Digestive System this week and we tried the Cracker Challenge!    We were challenged to eat three crackers within 1 minute.     The crackers were completely dry and we could not drink anything during our minute.  We thought it was an easy task but it wasn’t.

It was incredibly difficult to eat three crackers in 1 minute as the body doesn’t produce sufficient saliva during that short time to digest the very dry food.  Our saliva contains enzymes that begin the digestive process but it also lubricates the mouth to allow us to easily swallow.   This is why it was such a difficult challenge.

We worked in our problem solving groups to solve Cross Numbers which involved using the four arithmetical operations.

This week we have also been working on:

  • identifying the main idea in paragraphs
  • summarising using the 5 Ws – Who, Where, When, What and Why (sometimes How)
  • High Frequency Spelling Words
  • division linked to times tables and division with remainders
  • Social Media and Popular Culture;  to have strategies for safe use with online activities

We have opened our class advent calendar every day and looked at a Kindness Advent Calendar.  We have also enjoyed our daily Christmas jokes.

Remember to email me with your movie choice as soon as possible.

What have you learned this week?   Answers in the comments.

Writing -P5/6

We have been learning how to use the dictation and speak back tools on our I-pads to help us edit our writing. We found it tricky to start but soon mastered the skill. We are looking forward to using these tools more often in class.

Spreading a little kindness

P7A really enjoyed this week’s assembly, especially the story about the robin told by Mrs Wilson and the animated Kindness story.  They really helped us reflect on our behaviour and how we can be kinder to others.

In the run up to Christmas we have two advent calendars in our classroom – both designed to put a smile on someone’s face (after sanitising your hands of course).  The first calendar contains a Festive joke to tell the class and the second contains a daily Kindness challenge.  Please comment on this post if someone has been kind to you recently.
