P1 Story Pictures

We have been drawing pictures of different things we do, thinking carefully about the position of  our arms and hands. We share the story of our pictures with Mrs Collins and have begun to copy out  our ideas.

Learning to form our letters in P1

We have been learning to form the letters c o a d and g. They all start in the same way and in the same place. We practise writing in the air with our finger, on our whiteboards with our pens and then in our jotter with our pencil. We use a website on the smart board to help us.     https://www.doorwayonline.org.uk/activities/letterformation/

Z is for Zebra

We had a visit in P1 from Buzz the bee who taught us all about the “z” sound. Mrs Collins told us the stories of How the Zebra Got His Stripes and Dear Zoo. We sounded out the words zap, zip and zigzag with the Alphablocks and made our own Zebras out of paper plates.

Remembrance Day Information Reports

Our writing focus this block is on information reports. We decided to write an information report on Remembrance Day so we could find out more about it before the 11th November this year. We came up with headings and researched information using our iPads. We used our skimming and scanning skills to help select key information and pick up the main information from a page. Using our notes, we wrote and redrafted our reports and we are very proud of the results. We also looked at some literature based on World War 1. We found out about the poem Flanders Field by John McCrae and read a story by Michael Morpurgo. We were inspired by the poem Flanders Field and created some art using the poem and image of red poppies.

Electricity

P4 have been finding out about electricity.  We learned that electricity is a flow of electrons and we have been investigating how these electrons flow best.  Last week we used some of our new knowledge to create a simple circuit to make our bulbs light up.

Gone fishing!

A huge thank you to Patrick for showing us some of the different species of fish found in the rivers in Peebles. We had a great time trying to identify them and learning the difference between a trout and a salmon.
