light – source or reflector?

We carried out some experiments to see which things were sources of light and which were reflectors.  We had to build very dark dens to allow us to carry out our tests so no sunlight was involved.  We discovered that a torch is a source of light but a mirror or a shiny material is a reflector.

Lego driverless cars

We had a great time programming our LEGO driverless cars on Monday.  We had to write code to get the cars to drive across the room, turn round and drive back as quickly as possible. We had to really concentrate and we were using lots of maths and science skills.

P6a clay work

Primary 6a have had a great time in Art this week when they made clay animal thumb pots. First they had to roll their clay into a ball and then use their thumb to make a pot. They learnt how to join two pieces of clay together by scoring the clay and then making a slip. We have enjoyed watching our clay dry as it turns a different shade of grey.

Next week we are going to make a clay tile and then we will paint all of our clay work so look out for more pictures in a few weeks time.

P7 Burn’s Supper

On Wednesday P7 got together and enjoyed a Burn’s Supper as part of our Scottish focus. We celebrated by eating traditional haggis, neeps and tatties as well as some shortbread. We were treated to poetry recitals, highland dancing and some musical entertainment. We concluded the afternoon by singing Auld Lang Syne.  Well done to all involved. It was great fun!

We’re Going On A Bear Hunt!

ELC had a fantastic time today on our first Muddy Monday of the year! We explored the park and school grounds and found lots of places that reminded us of the story, including some long grass and lots of oozy mud! We even spotted a bear or two- luckily they were friendly! Thanks to the grown up helpers who came along to help today, we hope you had fun! Lego Robotics Workshop with Skills Development Scotland

Robot Race Video

We had a brilliant time today with David who came to visit from Skills Development Scotland.  He told us all about Driverless Cars and the skills we might have which could lead to a future career in their production and design.  We got to use Lego Mindstorms to explore our own skills and had so much fun we forgot we were learning about Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics, not to mention Problem Solving and Team Work.
