Primary 6a World Book Day
We had a great World Book Day today. We shared our favourite books with each other and also the homework that we did based around this book. In the afternoon we decorated our door as Granny by Anthony Horowitz , this is the book that we are reading at the moment and we are loving it!!
World Book Day
Today was World Book Day so we have taken part in lots of reading inspired activities: we have had lots of time to read our own books in class, and have read some of our class novel all together. We have used our Information Handling skills to show which of our class novels have been the most popular so far. On the World Book Day website there are some book quizzes, so we had a go at both the KS1 and KS2 quizzes (they’re tricky!). Finally, we thought about what our favourite books are, what happens in them, why we enjoy them and who we would recommend them to and put this all on a poster to try and persuade people to read our favourite books!
Brilliant Bikeability Day
P5/4 exploring the Fibonacci Sequence
Today we explored the Fibonacci Sequence as part of our number pattern topic in maths. We were given 3 envelopes with a puzzle in each one. Without any help from the teacher we had to look at what was in each envelope and work out what we had to do each time. The tasks had to be completed in a particular order.
There was lots of discussion as we tried different ideas.
Lauren – I saw the 2 ones and then the two. I could see how they linked and then I saw that the 1 and the 2 was followed by a 3 (the total of 1 and 2). I then applied this to the next number in the sequence and it worked.
Reuben – We ignored the numbers to begin with and could see that the pieces went together to make a picture like a jigsaw. Then we looked at the number patter.
Our next task was to arrange the squares into a rectangle making a new rectangle each time we added a square.
Our next task was to find the significance of the spiral. This was very tricky and we tried lots of different things.
Holly – we started with the smallest squares and put them in the middle. Then we put the next biggest to make the rectangle bigger. We kept doing this until we got to the biggest square.
Elise – I lay the squares in onto the spiral in the same pattern as we did with the rectangle.
Adam – it was better working with each other than alone because then we could have more ideas and more brains together.
Reuben – It was really challenging!
At the end we shared our strategies and how we overcame difficulties.
The class agreed that this was a fun way to learn.
Roman Chariot Homework P5 and p5/4
P5 and P5/4 homework due 25th March.
Design and create a Roman Soldier’s Chariot. Research different designs and decoration. It’s up to you what materials you use. We will share our chariots with the rest of our year group.
Here are some ideas. Have Fun!
Primary 1 Practical Maths Activities
Primary 1 have been practising their addition and subtraction sums using games and concrete materials. All of the children have been so engaged in their learning and have been very keen to share their work with their peers and teachers. Keep it up!
We have been using dominoes to add and subtract numbers on a whiteboard.
We have been playing addition bingo in a small group.
We have been using coins to help us add up values to 10p. Next week we will look at making up larger numbers.
We have been using number lines to help us add and subtract numbers too.
Primary 1 – ck words
Last week we were very busy learning about ck words and we participated in a range of activities to consolidate our learning.
ck word ideas we came up with:
sock, rock, lock, dock, clock, rocket, padlock, pack, back, kick, pick, sick, lick, stick, brick, click, tick tock, luck, duck, truck and neck.
Recycling project
Both p4 classes are looking at the properties of different materials this term and why and how we recycle some of these materials. At the end of the block we are hoping to design and make some outfits and hold a fashion show. In order to make these clothes we need some materials that we can recycle e.g. old boxes, foil, plastic bags, cardboard tubes etc. Please sent things into school over the next few weeks so we can see what materials we have to work with. Thanks
