Primary 4 and 5 had a wonderful visit from Zoolab to finish off their topic on biodiversity.  We met some amazing creatures and found out about their natural habitats and what they liked to eat.

Making peach crumble

Our class, on Roald Dahl day, made peach crumble in Jedderfield.

First we washed our hands so we didn’t get germs on the crumble.  Then we cut the lovely, delicious peaches into small chunks.  Next we weighed the ingredients in a big dish and we had to mix it with our hands.  Next we put the peaches in a smaller dish with the crumble.  Then Mrs Stevenson put the crumble in the oven.  Finally we got to have a piece.

It was delicious and I hope we can do it again.

A recount needs to have a title, an orientation, a sequence of events and a personal comment. Well done Isla for including all of the above in her first recount!

Going Swimming

On Monday morning our class went to Peebles swimming pool for swimming lessons.

First we walked to the pool with our partners.  Then we found a locker and we got changed into our swimsuits and trunks.  Next we waited at the side of the pool so then our teacher could put is in to groups.  After that we had our swimming lesson.  Finally we had a shower and washed our hair then went and got our clothes and got changed.  Then we walked back to school.

It was really fun going swimming.

Well done to everyone who applied for the roles of class council and sustainable squad representative for P4/5.  Congratulations to Rudi (class council) and Sadie (sustainable squad) who received the most votes. Happy campaigning!

Mrs Brown asked for representatives of the Sustainable Squad to be enthusiastic, respectful, confident and reliable. We were impressed that we had 7 pupils from our class that felt they would represent the class well, who have a real interest and passion for sustainability. We heard their reasons and ideas and voted on who we thought would represent us best. The majority vote was Ailish.

Following on from our work on Food Chains, we have been learning about Food Webs and how living organisms can be linked.  Here are some of our finished posters.  We have shown that we understand the terms Producer, Primary Consumer, Secondary Consumer and Energy Flow.

Recycle/Upcycle an item you would be throwing away (a cardboard box/tube, a piece of paper/envelope etc) and write on it a couple of reasons why you would like to be on the Sustainability Squad and/or why you would be good at it.  Hand it to Mrs Little anonymously by Friday 4th October.

P5b had 6 candidates who chose to present to the class for the role of ‘Pupil Council Rep’. The class voted for the candidate they thought would represent our class best, based on their ‘speech’ – looking for qualities like being respectful, being compassion, being courageous, being a good listener and talker, willing to miss break/lunchtime and many more!

We are pleased to announce that our winning candidate is Sally who will be out pupil rep, and Otto was a close second and has agreed to take on the role of Class council secretary.

We read an extract from James and the Giant Peach and then made our own peach crumble.  While the crumble was cooking we also designed some new characters to live in the peach with James. It was great fun and we loved trying our crumble at the end of the day!

To celebrate Roald Dahl’s birthday P5A had a wonderful morning enjoying some of his Revolting Rhymes.  We looked in detail at Red Riding Hood and the Wolf and decided to create our own illustrated picture book using his text.  We worked in pairs to create each page and are really pleased with the result.
