With proper care, it only takes about 48 hours for the eye to repair a corneal scratch.Around the world, about 39 million people are blind and roughly 6 times that many have some kind of vision impairment thats crazy . you blink 1-2 times a minute 12 times 60 is 720 720 times 24 is 17,280 thats cool! Around the world, about 39 million people are blind and roughly 6 times that many have some kind of vision difference. there is a condition called heterochromia and it is were your eyes are different colours and it only happens to 1 10th of people in the world.
Out  of EVERY muscle in your body the eyes muscles are the most active 80% of vision problems are curable or avoidable. the eyes stimulus responds to light and sound if you hear something found you will blink and this is caused by the brain thinking that it could be something dangerous and when it responds to light it could be bright with means your eyes get close to closing or if it is dark your eyes will grow wider. did you enjoy hearing my facts about the eye and how it reacts to sound and light.

Well done Josh – lots of interesting facts. Mrs Harrison

Our new topic for block 5

Both P6 classes worked together to think about our new topic for block 5.

This is what we had to think about.

I can investigate a Scottish historical theme to discover how events or the actions of people in the past have had an effect on Scottish society.

What do we know already?

Roman topic in P3, Victorians in P5, Celts in P4, Orkney settlements, Scotland versus England- massive fights, Jacobites, Mary Queen of Scots, 6 nations, Vikings, Myths and legends in Scotland, dinosaurs, Loch Ness monster, castles, Neidpath.

What do we need to know?

When it was, why it happened, what people did, who was involved, effect  it had on people, what was the outcome/result, what caused it, how people lived.

What is a Scottish historical theme? the actions of people, the effect that their actions had.

How would we like to do this?

A trip, drama, museums, art, predictions, make weapons, powerpoint, blogs, re enactments.

We chose to do Scottish wars of Independence

Why is this important?

We have the same issues today but we have to deal with them differently, its important to remember what people have done in the past, we should learn from our experiences and respect those who have been affected

I can choose which primary and secondary sources are best to use when researching events in the past.

What do we know already?

computers and books, education, Tim said primary is the first experience and secondary is copies.

What do we need to know?

We need to research the events, what is a primary resource and what is a secondary resource, who is involved

Ear homework By Munro.

The ear is important because it lets you hear different sounds. There are two part of the ear the outer ear and the inner ear. The ear also helps you with your balance.

Bikeability

Today Primary 6a spent a great day learning biking skills. Keith and his team came for the day and we learned some of the skills that will keep us safe when cycling. We cycled through all weathers- sleet, rain, wind(no sun!) and Keith said how he was impressed that nobody moaned about the cold! We all enjoyed our day and would like to say thank you to Keith and his team of helpers.

The Ear

The ear has little bones so you can hear. Here are the little bones name,

First you  have your outer ear, Then you have your Pinna, Then ear canal, Then you should all know you have an Ear Drum, Then Malleus, Then Incus, Then your Middle ear, Then Stapes , Then your Inner ear and last but not least u have your Cochlea. That is all your bones and all that stuff.

                                                                how do you hear?

Sound waves enter your Canal and then it makes your ear drums vibrate. The action moves a long the ear to your middle ear the last bone knocks to the Cochlea and makes the fluid in the Cochlea moves. That is how you hear.

                                                             Quiz

Broad Bean and Cress Experiment

We have started two experiments to look at how seeds and beans would cope in different environments because during seed dispersal it can be luck whether a seed gets a nice place to grow or a difficult environment to grow in. We are keeping an eye on the cress and broad beans to see the best environment for germination. Some of our seeds and beans are growing well.

We started with the same amount of seeds and beans in each jar or dish. We are giving them all the same amount of water and light unless this is their one variable.  This is to make sure it is a fair test. Some of the variables are salty water, smoothie, sand, food colouring, hot water, classical music, litter, compost, shade, extra water or no light at all.

Which do you think will grow the best? Leave your comments below!

Double Helix Sweetie Structure

Today we learnt about how the Double Helix structure has base pairs made up of nucleotides called A, T, C,  and G. A only connect with T and C only connects with G. We used coloured sweets to represent the nucleotides and cocktail sticks to represent the backbone of the double helix. The double helix structure provides a code for our DNA just like an instruction manual. It determines how we look and act. DNA is what makes you, you.

Did you know if you stretch out all of your DNA strands then you can reach from the Earth to the Moon and back…

3000 times!

We thought this was a sweet activity!

More of our second podcasts.

We have worked in different groups to do a podcast on a body system of our choice. We had to find out about what organs were in this body system, what they did, some of the problems that these body systems may have and what we can do to help this body system keep healthy.

We hope you enjoy our podcasts.
