Scottish Poetry
We have been working hard to learn our Scottish poem, “Ma Wee Rid Motor” and Scottish song, “Katie Beardie”. We shared them together in class and our teachers were very proud of us.
Well done Primary 1!
What was it like to live in Scotland long ago ?
We have been talking about what it was like to live on a farm in the time of Rabbie Burns. We have been exploring the inside of the farm cottage to learn more about family life.

A Special Visitor
Primary 1 were very excited when they had a special visit from Agnes Burns. Agnes looked different because she wore unusual clothes and she didn’t travel in a car – she came by horse and cart. She called us bairns and not children. She even called Mrs. Musgrave ,”Dearie !” We thought that was really funny.
She showed us a picture of her little cottage with its thatched roof. We were fascinated when she told us that her animals lived in part of her cottage.
She had a basket full of her special things including her silver spoons, candle stick and her thick woollen shawl. We think that Mrs. Burns is a time traveller from long ago and we are really looking forward to finding out more about her life.
Book Bug votes
When Mrs Quayle visited us to launch this year’s Book Bug books we were asked to read the books in the Book Bug bag then vote for our favourite.
The results are:
P1a – ” Never tickle a tiger” by Pamela Butchart.
P1b- ” Never tickle a tiger” by Pamela Butchart.
P1c – “Mouse’s first night at moonlight school” by Simon Puttock and Ali Pye.
We have really enjoyed hearing and discussing the Book Bug books.
2016 calendars
Primary One made these beautiful 2016 calendars and they learned about the four seasons at the same time.
We drew a tree trunk and watched it as it made its journey through Winter, into Spring then Summer and finally into Autumn. As we discussed the seasons together during this activity we realised that it is a never ending cycle and that when the four seasons have passed the cycle starts all over again.
We worked very hard on our calendars and we used our skills in fine line drawing, improving our grip on our pen/pencil and on colouring in neatly and trying very hard to stay inside the lines we had drawn. We also worked very hard at making lots of patterns on our tree trunks.
All of the skills we were using to create our 2016 calendars will help us with our handwriting.
We were so excited about taking our finished calendars home and giving them as Christmas presents.
