As we (hopefully) head towards Spring, here’s a selection of some of our work which was inspired by the recent wintery weather. P5A explored different media and painting techniques to create these beautiful wintery trees. We also used ‘Snow’ as a theme for writing Narrative texts where the complication was something to do with the weather. Together we think they make a pretty good addition to our already fabulous corridor.

Let there be light!
In P5 we have been learning about Light and Sound. This week we looked at what a light source was and what a reflector was. We also learned about natural and artificial light sources.
Every time we leave the school grounds we wear these Hi-vis bibs but did we ever really realise how effective they were? This photo shows what happens when the light from a vehicle shines on the reflective strips at night. We thought it was really cool!
A fantastic day at the museum!
P5A and B had a brilliant day at the National Museum of Scotland. We studied the world of Harald the Viking and loved seeing real Viking artefacts and evidence of their lifestyle.
We also had time to explore the rest of the Musuem from the Natural world and Technological advancements to the fabulous views from the rooftop terrace.
A HUGE thank you to all our fantastic adult helpers who gave up their whole day to come with us and lead a group – we couldn’t have done it without you!
A thoughtful visitor
P5A were very touched when Jackson from P2/3 came to us with a lovely book for us to borrow. He had seen our Viking display and he thought we might like to read a book from his classroom called ‘ Dragon Stew’. We loved it Jackson, thank you!
“Viking at School” – World book day celebrations for P5A
We had a blast decorating our classroom door (OK, and a little beyond!) for World Book Day. We have been learning about the Vikings so chose the novel ‘Viking at School’ by Jeremy Strong. If you are passing, have a very close look in our longship…you may see some familiar faces!
Edit – Oh my goodness! Jeremy Strong himself commented on our door!
P5A Scotland Topic
During our mini topic on Scottish geography and language we enjoyed experimenting with different media to create some beautiful Scottish landscapes. We read lots of texts in Scots and even had a go at writing our own.
Lego Robotics Workshop with Skills Development Scotland
We had a brilliant time today with David who came to visit from Skills Development Scotland. He told us all about Driverless Cars and the skills we might have which could lead to a future career in their production and design. We got to use Lego Mindstorms to explore our own skills and had so much fun we forgot we were learning about Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics, not to mention Problem Solving and Team Work.
Multiplication
Today we started a block of work on Multiplication. Mrs Little wanted to check how many of our times tables facts we remembered so we all attempted to fill in a blank multiplication square as quickly and ACCURATELY as we could. Our aim is to improve our accuracy and beat our time by the end of the block.
If you would like to practise this at home you could try this site:
Instructions for use: Leave Left Column and Top Column set as #. Change Operation to Left x Top. Click on Start Drill. It will generate a random multiplication grid which you can then print out at home.
Beetle Drive…in French
We have using our knowledge of body parts to play games in French. Today we learned how to play beetle drive. Qui a gagné?
Pop along to the fair for a Pop-up Santa!
P5A have been very busy making these wonderful Pop-Up Santas to sell at the Christmas Fair. There was so much learning involved in their construction: listening to instructions, measuring, shape, problem solving, design & technology…but we also had a lot of fun!
