Hello and happy Tuesday Primary 3! Hope you are all coping well this week with the activities and are enjoying your home learning! It’s been so nice to hear about all your work and to be getting regular updates about how you are all doing, keep sending us updates as we love to hear about it! We are planning, if you can access Teams, to do a check-in for each class on Wednesday at 1:30. To join you will need to log in to Glow and get onto Teams. Click onto your own classes page and then a message will pop up when the chat is starting, please make sure that you join with audio only and during the chat you and those at home with you will be able to share what you’ve been up to and ask questions and have a catch up with the rest of your class.

Please remember to write the answers to your comprehension in full sentences and try and use your joined up writing.  The comprehension questions will also be up as assignments in Teams.

Good morning Primary 3, we hope you had a fantastic weekend and made the most of the beautiful weather as much as possible. It has been lovely to see some wee baby lambs in fields round about and it’s the perfect weather for the new life that Spring brings! Today, if you can, if you are doing the Joe Wicks, or any kind of PE today, try doing it out in your garden and make the most of the lovely weather!

Now that there are some beautiful blooms and flowers coming through, why not use your creative sides to draw or paint your favourite flower or a range of flowers and send us your artwork so we can share your amazing work.

Remember to make use of the learning grids that were posted last week on the blog for activities for the start of this term and there are lots of activities on Education City for you to work through as well.

For your reading today, please make sure to read the second half of your reading books, there will be activities to go along with your books throughout the week.

Hello Primary 2,

How was your weekend? The weather was beautiful so we hope you managed to get outside and enjoy it. The forecast says the nice weather isn’t going to last unfortunately. You can check out the weeks weather forecast on https://www.bbc.co.uk/weather/forecast-video.

Last week we posted two weeks’ worth of learning grids so you should now be looking at the grids beginning 27.04.20. We have also attached them to make it easier for you to find them. As always, please choose one literacy, one numeracy and one learning across the curriculum activity each day. We have loved seeing photos of you completing your tasks on your online learning journals. If you need your password reset either email the school office or comment below and we will be able to help.

Good morning!
We hope that you had a fantastic weekend with your family. What did you get up to? We hope that you managed to spend some time outside. Miss Christy, Miss Daun and Miss Cunningham are all missing you so thank you so much to everyone who has posted on the Learning Journals to show us all your hard work. Every time we see a photo it makes us smile!

This week we have trialed using a short video to teach new concepts in maths. Please let us know if this is helpful for the children. We are hoping to use this format more in the next few weeks and hope that it eases some of the teaching pressure at home. The video will be sent through a dropbox link in the Learning Journal messages. We will also be sending out a message with your child’s reading homework.

Primary 1 Home Learning 24.04.20

Happy Vendredi Primary 1!

I hope you’ve all had a lovely time learning from home this week. It has been wonderful to see all of you working so hard and enjoying learning at home with your family. Thank you for continuing to share all of your hard work with us on the Learning Journals. We have shared some of the best work we have seen on the school blog and will continue to celebrate all of your efforts next week! Did anyone manage to go outdoors and see some of the signs of Spring of Spring this week? Maybe you were able to spot some daffodils, bumblebees and baby lambs in the fields? The weather has been beautiful, I hope you’ve all been outside enjoying the sunshine!

We will provide you with some fun new activities on Monday so it’s a great time to finish off any of the activities on the home learning grids this morning. We hope that you are finding the grids useful and that you are managing to access all of the resources you need. If you have any questions or feedback about the activities we are providing, please get in touch with us on the learning journals or school blog. Thank you for all of your support with this.

Fridays are truly the beginning of the weekend and it’s a great time to start winding down for some ‘Fun Family Friday’ time. We would like you to spend some quality time with your family today, whether that’s in the garden, going for a walk, baking a cake or playing a board game. It’s so important for us to stay healthy, happy and connected during this time. You could even perhaps give an aunt, uncle, grandparent or friend a phone call to catch up on what you have been getting up to at home this week.  Or you could write a letter to a friend or family member if you have time.

Get Set have posted some free resources, activities and challenges for the whole family to enjoy. Here are some examples of the active challenges you can take part in today:

GET ACTIVE

  • Train to win activity sheet – keep kids active at home by challenging them to try a simple activity such as star jumps, jumping jacks or line jumps (jumping from one side of a line to the other with your feet together and knees bent) each day and track their personal best.
  • Domes and dishes – try to fun group game in the garden or living room to get active and explore the Olympic Value of respect. Use cones if available, or paper plates, books, or toys – anything that you can turn over!
  • Play Boccia – read the rules for the Paralympic sport of boccia and see if you can adapt and play a game in or outside of the house!
  • Winter team sports challenge – try these adapted (no snow required) versions of sports from the Olympic Winter Games.

Primary 3 Friday 24th April 2020

How are you all Primary 3? Still keeping safe and well I hope! Happy Friday!

Every Friday, we will upload a challenge for our new technology topic (chosen by you). This will involve a tiny bit of research through reading or watching something and then an activity to go with the new information you have learned. Today’s challenge is a little introduction to technology.

We have seen lots of examples of you working through the activities on your learning grid which is great. Remember that Education City is also available to supplement Maths and Literacy too. Should you need a reminder of your password, please do not hesitate to message Mr Woodward and I. We will be happy to pass it on.

As you all are aware, we have our Rights Respecting Schools Article 24 as a focus for this week also. The theme with this is Health, water, food and the environment share using: #RRSA on Twitter, or share it on the RRSA Facebook community page.

West Lothian would also like to keep up to date with all of the amazing Health work we are doing, whether it be daily exercise, obstacle courses in the garden, baking and cooking or hand-washing to name a few. They would love to encourage you to share your work with them also following @WLHWBchamps on twitter and use the hashtag #WLHWBathome whenever you are doing anything HWB related.

It’s FRIDAY!

Another week of home learning nearly complete. Well done to you all and a huge well done to all the Mummy’s and Daddy’s at home helping support your learning. You are all doing an amazing job!

We hope you have managed to access the learning grids and completed half of the jobs on there. Remember you will use this learning grid for next week too. It has been great to have your feedback on the blog and through Learning Journals. Some of you have made a great start and it’s been lovely seeing all the photographs of your hard work.

On Friday we normally do a spelling test with your phonics words, so why don’t you get an adult or older sibling to test you on your spelling words to see if you can get full marks. Then challenge yourself to write a sentence (that makes sense) with as many spelling words as you can. Good luck!

BBC Bitesize have been posting 3 lessons a day. Today, one of their lessons is about friendship/how to be a good friend. Why don’t you have a go at watching the short clips and completing some of the activities. It is a great way to remember our friends as I’m sure some of you are missing each other.

Bonjour and good morning to you all!

Today’s Maths task is based on different number systems, focusing on the Roman number system. The Roman number system is slightly different to ours in that they used capital letters to represent their numbers. The letters are  I, V, X, L, C, D and M. Clever Monkey

  1. Mr Otterbank, who was the head keeper, lost his big bunch of keys.
  2. The monkeys gave Mr Otterbank his keys back straight away.
  3. Sandy didn’t know what a fridge was.
  4. Dad said it sounded like a real old jumble sale.
  5. The monkeys had to break up into groups to see more of outside Monkey Land faster.

Good morning Primary 1,
If you had time to do the Enormous Turnip drama yesterday we hope you enjoyed it! It is a great way to demonstrate and practise your drama skills.
What signs of spring have you been noticing? It is amazing to see the changes around us as we move from winter to spring. Do you have a favourite season and if so why is it your favourite? My favourite season is spring because the weather turns warmer and beautiful flowers bloom.

Hello Primary 2,

Another lovely sunny day!  We hope you have been enjoying getting out for some exercise in the sunshine. You will have seen Mrs Ferguson has also posted some activities to help keep you moving! We would love to see some photos if you try any of them. Great to see some of you have been trying out your own obstacle courses!

We are also really pleased that some people have already started exploring our new topic of Hot and Cold Countries. Along with the video and Powerpoint we have posted, you might have books or even globes at home to help locate the Arctic and Antarctic. Have a look at some of the excellent research completed about Arctic animals. Well done!

We are providing lots of activities to keep you busy but remember playing time is still an important part of our day in Primary 2 and will help split up some of the core tasks on your learning grids. Also if you need a break  and would like to relax, Mrs Oliver has a story waiting for you in your Learner’s Journey!

Did you know that the London Marathon was meant to take place this Sunday , 26th April? Maybe you knew someone who was going to be taking part or you know someone who has completed this endurance running event  in the past.  It will hopefully take place later on this year.

A marathon distance is 26.2 miles. That’s like running from Livingston to Stirling Castle ( Wow!) Since no one can run the marathon this weekend some of the charities involved with the marathon have decided to set a 2 point six challenge and I’d like you to see if you can do any of these challenges?

Writing: Our topic this term is technology. Can you write a short story about what it might be like to be a robot being switched on for the first time? (think C3PO in The Phantom Menace). What would you see, who would you see, what would you feel and think? What would you do in your first day as a robot? What type of robot are you, could you describe yourself? How would you describe the world around you?

During Number Talks and numeracy we have started to look at multiplying with carrying and so here is a short video explaining carrying with a simple sum. It is the first time we’ve tried to record like this so hopefully it’ll work!

Good morning everyone,

We hope you are all well today and looking forward to a new day of learning from home. I wonder how many of you are doing Joe Wicks – have you been able to spot the differences or answer the quiz questions he has been asking? If you would like a shorter wake up activity you could maybe try some of these favourites we use in class to get us moving! These are also useful to get you moving in between activities when you get a bit fed up of sitting still!

Today, you can continue choosing a Literacy, Numeracy and Across the Curriculum activity. Here is a a Powerpoint to help you with your research on arctic animals:

If you would like to try out an additional Science and Technology activity, we are sure you will find this video from the Glasgow Science Centre on Monday really interesting. It is all about the European Space Agency’s Rover that is due to be sent to Mars in 2022. Use your new knowledge of what makes a good rover to build your own and send us photo if you can!

​Each week we are going to make a Rights Respecting Schools Article focus for you think about. This week, we would like you to focus on Article 24 -Health Care – ensures that every child has the right to the best possible health. Can you think of 8 important things you need to stay healthy? Good morning Primary 1s. It’s another lovely sunny day today and I hope you are managing to get outside to make the most of this sunshine. I am noticing lots of signs on spring during my daily exercise. I have seen blossom forming on trees, baby lambs bouncing in the fields and some warmer weather showing us that summer is on its way.

What have you seen as you go out and about?
We hope that you managed to read or listen to the story of the Enormous Turnip yesterday. Has anyone managed to make the vegetable soup from the learning grid? I love in the story that everyone worked together to help pull the turnip out. What examples of people working together have you seen in the past week? Maybe you and your family worked as a team to complete a jigsaw puzzle, or have you been out in the garden working together to grow some flowers or food?

As a school we are currently working towards re-accreditation of our Gold Rights Respecting Schools Award. UNICEF have created some activities that can be completed at home to continue the work we would have been doing in class. These activities give the children an opportunity to learn about their rights and think through how they access them.
This week we are looking at Article 24, the right to health care. Can you complete any of these activities over the coming days and post your work in the Learning Journals? You can also post your work with the hashtag #RRSA on Twitter, or share it on the RRSA Facebook page.

Primary 1 Home Learning 21.04.20

Good morning Primary 1,

We hope that you’ve all been enjoying this lovely sunshine and are still managing to find some time to exercise and play outside! It was lovely to see some of you enjoying spending time outdoors with your family during the Easter holidays on the Learning Journals. Thank you for continuing to share your home learning experiences with us.

We would like to suggest that you choose one or two activities from the home learning grids to complete today if you are able. You can access the links to the literacy, numeracy and interdisciplinary learning grids and resources on the school blog and in the messages section on your Learning Journals. Please make sure that you still make time for playing, exercising and helping out around the house too!

This week we are focusing on the fairy tale ‘The Enormous Turnip’. You can access the link to the audio clip on BBC School Radio here: https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p03rttqq. The Enormous Turnip is a great fairy tale at this time as it symbolises the importance of team work and people coming together. Ask your child to close their eyes and listen to the story. Imagine what happens in the story at the beginning, middle and end of the story and think about how they all manage to pull the enormous turnip out of the ground. After listening to the story, retell the events in your own words to an adult. During your story you could try acting out some of the events, role playing some of the characters or you could even use some props. If you have time, you could ask an adult to film you retelling the story and share it with us on the Learning Journals. We would love to see how you get on with this at home!

You could even learn and include this fun song about Farmer Ben ploughing his field (try singing it to the theme of The Grand Old Duke of York):

Good morning boys and girls!

We hope you managed to download your Learning packs for the next two weeks and have made a start at working your way through these. Remember to do a literacy, numeracy and across the curriculum every day. Tick off each task once it is complete. The work can be written into your jotters and you can post pictures of your work in Learning Journals. We were so happy to see so many of you actively engaged over the Easter holidays and posting lots of pictures of your activities.

BBC Bitesize is releasing 3 lessons a day for children to complete at their leisure. The lessons are brilliant and engaging.  You can access them using this link:

A new book has been released helping explain what the Coronavirus is. It is illustrated by Gruffalo illustrator Axel Scheffler. The book answers key questions in simple language appropriate for 5 to 9 year olds.

Tuesday is one of our P.E days so make sure you are active today: you could take part in Joe Wicks live P.E lesson at 9am or play a little sport in your garden since the weather is nice!
