Happy New Year from Primary 7!

Hello & Happy New Year!

We hope you have had an enjoyable festive break. We are happy to be back and are looking forward to a busy term ahead full of learning.

This week, we started our new Interdisciplinary Topic of World War II. So far the children have been very interested in what we are learning about 1930’s Britain and 1930’s Germany. Next week we will begin to learn about the life of Anne Frank. If anyone has any resources or memories they could share with us we would be delighted to hear from you.

Today the children chose a Burns Poem they would like to recite to the class in 2 weeks time. They have been given their poem home with them today. Please encourage your children to practise and memorise their poem at home. We will also be working on helping the children to learn their poems in class. 2 children from both classes will then be chosen to recite their poem in front of the school at the annual Burns Assembly. Good luck everyone!

In the next 2 weeks the children will begin learning and practising for this year’s P6/7 School Show! The show this year is called “Hosanna!” Your child may receive lines to memorise, please encourage your children to practise these at home.

Some reminders:

– Indoor PE is now on a Monday and Outdoor PE will be on a Tuesday for both classes. Please ensure your child brings appropriate kit to school on these days.

– Next week your child will receive spelling homework (given on Monday, due in on Friday) and maths homework (given on Monday, due in on Thursday) as normal. The children will no longer have a news book to complete this term. The children will also receive reading homework in the coming weeks. There will be more information about this in the next P7 newsletter.

Thank you, as always, for all of your suppport. Have a great weekend!

Miss Clark & Miss Farren

Primary Five 6th January 2016

Welcome back and Happy New Year!

This week we have started our new Interdisciplinary Study by looking at what we want to learn about The Scottish Wars of Independence and completing a Pre-topic test to highlight what we already know.

We have been working on a times table challenge in Maths.  We have made a game to help people learn their times tables.  We hope to take these to test out in P7.

In Writing we wrote a thank you letter for an unwanted Christmas present.  We had great fun writing these and they are very funny.

Next week please remember gym kit on Thursday (indoor) and Friday (outdoor).  This may change as the term goes on.

Thank you

Mrs Jamieson and Mrs Steel

P4/3 Update 8/1/16

Happy New Year and welcome back. I hope you all had a lovely Christmas and Hogmanay and enjoyed the break.
Thank you so much for all the lovely gifts I received, they were very much appreciated.

We have such a busy term ahead of us and a lot to get done before Easter.
This term our topic in class will be Mary Queen of Scots. We will be learning all about her life and her place in history.
There will be a big homework task based on our topic given out in a few weeks for the children to complete.

Normal homework will resume on Monday. Our reading homework is going to be slightly different this term and details of this will be sent home in jotters next week.
Please ensure that your child is completing their spelling and reading homework weekly (as well as maths when it is given out) and that they are being returned on time in order for jotters to be marked and given back out for the next lot of homework.

This term our outdoor PE will continue to be on a Monday and indoor PE on a Wednesday so please ensure your child has appropriate kit on those days, this includes shoes for outdoor gym as it can be difficult for them to run and take part in games and activities when wearing boots or wellies.

Please can you ensure that all your child’s clothing is labelled with their name when coming into school as this avoids confusion when changing for gym or when jumpers and cardigans are taken off in class. This includes gym kits as the clothes can often be very similar and the children do not always recognise their own.

Children have been given a Robert Burns poem in class today to bring home which they are required to learn and will be reciting in class on Monday 18th January. Two children will then be picked based on this recitation to perform their poems at our Burns assembly that Friday (22nd). Please help your child to practise this as much as possible between now and then.

Thank you

Mrs Wallace

We sincerely hope to continue the good work being done already in the school, improving some aspects of it, and, we are looking forward to the building of the new gym hall. It’s going to be an exciting year at Carmondean for us and all our partners.  Have a good one and we’ll see staff back on Tuesday, 05 January and pupils back on Wednesday, 06.

Merry Christmas to everyone!

We have had a very ‘Christmassy’ week, with our party on Friday getting us into the spirit and then the Pantomime on Tuesday continuing the Christmas traditions. The pantomime was excellent and the children thoroughly enjoyed it and were very well mannered and behaved throughout. Well done P4!

This week saw the last of our input from the NYCOS choir. Karen has been teaching us how to read music, keep a beat and recognise pitches and notes in music. We learned lots of fun singing games and rhymes along the way and we wish her the very best.

Thank you to all of the children and parents for their kindness and gifts given to me. I am overwhelmed by your generosity.  I wish you all a very merry Christmas and hope Santa brings you everything you wish for.

Well done to all of the boys and girls this year for your hard work and efforts.

Here is a little flash back to our year so far:

Enjoy the holidays everyone! See you all in the New Year ready for an exciting second half of the year with lots of new learning. 🙂

Thank you to parents for their continued support throughout this year.

Well we’ve finally made it to the holidays. Well done to the boys and girls who have worked very hard this term, I’m sure they’re looking forward to some well earned time off.

We all had a great time at the pantomime at Howden Park Centre on Tuesday, thank you very much to the parent helpers who came along. I think it got us all very much in the festive spirit.

The boys and girls also enjoyed their party last Friday and had a great time showing off the Scottish dances we have learned in school.

After the holidays we will continue to have outdoor PE on a Monday and indoor PE on a Wednesday so please ensure your child has appropriate kit on those days.

We will not have homework the first week back as the children do not return to school until Wednesday the 6th January, normal spelling and reading homework will resume the following week (beginning 11th January)

Hope you all have a great holiday and Santa is good to you 🙂

What a fantastic week in P2 at Carmondean.

Mrs Matheson and Miss Clark would like to say a very big well done to all the children for doing such a fantastic job of our nativity and staying so on task when little things went wrong.  We are very proud of how hard you worked and how well you presented yourselves and our school.

We are looking forward to a very Christmassy and fun filled last week of term this week, kicking off with a visit from a fire-engine and the Christmas party.

Miss Clark and Mrs Matheson would like to wish you all a Merry Christmas an a very Happy holiday.
