Parents evenings take place next Wednesday and Thursday on Skype. Appointments will take place between 4-6:30pm on both evenings. If you would like an appointment please check your email from the school or contact the school office. We look forward to speaking to you then!
In Topic this week we have been continuing our AAL lessons (Anywhere, Anytime Learning). In these lessons children can use their own devices from home. The children have been working very responsibly with their devices and have been using them to research aspects of our Industrial Revolution Topic. Today we explored the evolution of the telephone over time. We worked in groups to research different types of phones that have been used over time and then created our own group timelines. These are looking fantastic so far!
In Numeracy we are continuing to explore place value looking at numbers with 5, 6, 7 and 8 digits! We have partitioned, ordered and compared these types of numbers and next week we will add, subtract, multiply and divide using these larger numbers. As it is Maths Week Scotland this week we have also been completing some extra challenges in class. Yesterday we learned about tessellation and created our own tiling patterns which we then turned into animals!
We have been very impressed with the children’s writing over the past few weeks! We have been working on recount writing and the children are really getting to grips with writing in the past tense, including time connectives and writing in chronological order. The children are also challenging themselves to include extra details and information to make sure their writing is interesting. Well done Primary 6!
Reminders
– The school photographer is visiting the school next Monday and Tuesday to take individual and family photographs. Because of this please send your child to school on Tuesday in normal school uniform and not PE uniform in case they need their photo taken.
– Homework is due next Friday 8th October (with the exception of the -Inventors challenge which is due in after the October Holidays).

Hello everyone and happy Tuesday!
Primary 6 have been busy bees already this week. In Spanish and French we have been learning to count forwards and back. In Spanish we have been learning to count from 1-31 and we played some very competitive games of bingo to consolidate our knowledge. In French we have been learning the numbers from 1-100 with the help of this song: French Numbers 1-100 Song

In Technologies we have been exploring coding. We know that an algorithms are instructions for computers. We also know that algorithms need to be very accurate in order for a computer to follow our instructions exactly. We have been playing coding games on: Coding Games
These games have been helping us to learn how to “debug” our algorithms if we’ve not quite given the computer the correct instructions. Primary 6 have shown a lot of resilience today often having to try several times to debug an algorithm.

PE days are Tuesday and Wednesday. Please remember PE uniform means that non uniform hoddies/jumpers should only be worn during outdoor PE sessions themselves and not throughout the school day.
Please send your child to school with a full water bottle each day. This can be refilled when required.

Primary 6 2.9.21
Hello everyone!
We have had a busy but fun week in Primary 6 so far. Work has begun in each of the curricular areas and the children are working extremely hard so far 🙂 Homework has been posted on Teams. The children have 2 weeks to complete the tasks and only the tasks with a star are mandatory, the rest are optional. More information can be found on our class Teams page. Some children have also received a paper copy of the homework. Please encourage your child to ask their class teacher for a paper copy if they require it.
As our annual Meet the Teacher event is unable to take place this year Mr Drysdale and I have created a short presentation each so that you can “meet” us and hear more about our plans in Primary 6 this year. You will find these videos on the P6A and P6B Teams pages. Please have a look 🙂
In Numeracy we have been continuing with work on place value looking at building and partitioning numbers up to 7 digits. The children have also been exploring the place values of decimal numbers using tenths and hundredths.
This term our focus in writing is recount. This week the children are recounting the events of their weekend. Yesterday the children planned out their writing and today they will using their plan to produce their first full piece of writing in Primary 6. The children will also self assess their work using “Green for Go” and “Pink for Think”. We can’t wait to see their fabulous work!
Reminders
– Indoor shoes should be worn in class and around the school. Please ensure your child has a pair of indoor shoes in school that they can change into.
– PE days are Tuesday (outdoor) and Wednesday (indoor). This week we are having a one off PE session on Friday 3rd September too. Children can therefore wear their PE uniform to school this Friday too.
– Homework is due in next Friday 10th September

Welcome to Primary 6!
Hello everyone!
Primary 6 have made an excellent start to the year. Mr Drysdale and I are very impressed with the children’s hard work and effort during the first week. P6 have made fantastic first impressions showing themselves to be kind, caring and helpful – well done everyone!
In the first week the children have made a fabulous start in several curricular areas. In Numeracy P6 have shared their knowledge of place value. In Reading they have shared their thoughts on our new novel “You are Awesome!” by Matthew Syed and made informed predictions on what this non-fiction text is going to be about. In PE the children helped to create a PE charter with Mrs Ferguson. In Topic the children shared what they would like to learn and how they would like to learn about our new topic of “The Industrial Revolution and Inventions”. P6 have also began learning about how to be a member of a connected, compassionate classroom through the creation of our class charter.
This week the children will take part in football activities in PE, create a wall display all about the SHANARRI indicator – responsibility and will create other fabulous pieces of art work for our classroom walls.
A newsletter will be sent home this week detailing this terms learning and events in more detail. In the meantime here are some helpful reminders –
– Please can you ensure that your child has a pair of indoor shoes to wear in the classroom.
– PE days are Tuesday and Wednesday. This term PE on a Tuesday will be outdoors and on a Wednesday will be indoors with Mrs Ferguson. Please ensure your child attends school in the school’s PE uniform on these days. A non-uniform jumper/hoodie can be brought in your child’s school bag to put on later when taking part in Outdoor PE on a Tuesday.
– Please also ensure that your child brings a full water bottle to school each day. This can be refilled in school when required.

Primary 4 4.6.21
Hello everyone!
It has been a very fun week in Primary 4.
We have been enjoying watching our class caterpillars continue to grow. They are getting really big now! We looked at photos that we took of them on Day 1 and Day 5 and the differences were incredible! We are looking forward to watching them transform again in the next week or so.
We have been continuing to read Charlotte’s Web in class. The children are really enjoying the novel and Mr Woodward and I are so pleased that so many children are volunteering to read aloud in front of the class. This week we learned about a miracle that happened on the farm. The children became news reporters, writing amazing reports about the miracle on Zuckerman’s Farm. Some of our roving reporters even included interviews with a main character in their newspaper report – amazing job Primary 4!
This week we drew our art topic on colours to a close by creating amazing insect art work. Last week each child sketched either a ladybird, a spider or a worm in pencil and then went over their lines in black pen. This week the children used poster paint to paint their insects lots of different colours. The children were only given the primary colours, white and black and they still managed to create the most amazing, multi-coloured insects through using their knowledge of primary, secondary and tertiary colours. Well done Primary 4!!
Our Primary 4 Sports Day took place yesterday. A huge thank you to Mrs Ferguson. Mrs Coulter and Miss Malloy who organised and ran the whole event which was a huge success! Thank you also to the Primary 7s who planned all of the events that the children took part in yesterday. All the children had a fantastic time. A special well done to SUTHERLAND who were the winning house (Miss Clark was especially happy as she is in Sutherland too!) All the points from each stage’s Sports Day will be added together and a final house winner will be revealed soon!
Homework is due in next Friday 11th June. This will be our last piece of homework in Primary 4. Reading books should also be returned to school by this date. Thank you for all the help and support you provide the children with, it is greatly appreciated it.
As the weather is becoming warmer we would like to go outdoors more with the children. Please ensure your child is wearing sun cream to school on hot, sunny days. We cannot apply this in school. Thank you.

Hello everyone
It has been a fun and interesting week in Primary 4.
This week we have continued learning about our topic of mini beasts. Miss Clark’s class learned a new ICT skill this week – making a Sway. We did this through Glow and told others all about ourselves. The children will use this skill in the future to create a Sway about mini beasts. Mr Woodward’s class developed their knowledge of primary and secondary colours through creating a colour wheel. They used primary colours to mix the secondary colours for their colour wheel. They will use this knowledge to help them to create some mini beast art in the coming weeks. Next week the classes will swap activities.
Thank you to everyone who has handed in their homework this week. New homework will be issued on Monday as well as new reading books. Please remind your child to hand in their homework/hand back their reading book as soon as possible. Thank you.
In PE this week we finished our work on circuit training. We discussed what the word stamina meant and how our stamina has improved over the past few weeks. We also discussed how our bodies felt before and after exercise. Next week we will begin a block of work on Athletics. In PE with Mrs Ferguson the children are now taking part in Orienteering activities outside in the playground.
This week in writing we wrote an explanation piece all about how to look after Planet Earth. The children had great knowledge in this area and wrote excellent explanation pieces which hit all of the genre targets and core targets that we have been working on for the past few weeks. Well done P4! We are now going to be working on recounting events from our own lives in writing for the next few weeks.
Reminders
– PE kit should only be worn to school on Mondays and Thursdays when the children have outdoor PE. Uniform should be worn at all other times.
– Please ensure that your child has indoor shoes to wear when they are in the classroom. Outdoor shoes should not be worn in the classrooms.

Primary 4 6.5.21
Hello everyone
Although this week has been shorter we are still having a busy week in Primary 4. Our mini beasts topic is well underway and the children have been showing lots of enthusiasm about what they are learning during class discussions. This week we learned about “vertebrates” and “invertebrates”. Many children had fantastic prior knowledge about this topic that they brought to our class discussion. We also had great fun playing a dominoes game which meant we had to match up vertebrates and invertebrates. Poppy from Miss Clark’s class mentioned something about “exo-skeletons” this week. I wonder where this line of thought will take us?
Also in topic lessons we have been exploring the world of non-fiction books. We have been learning about how non-fiction books are structured and on Tuesday we used the index to help us to research different mini beasts in non-fiction books, some of which we had never even heard of before! Most children have now been given a non-fiction book home to read. Please ask them if they can identify the contents page, index and glossary and explain their purpose. We are soon going to be using non-fiction books in class to help us to research.
This week we have set homework on Teams. There is a video on the “Primary 4 Year Group” Teams page explaining how this homework should be completed. The due date is next Friday 14th May and only starred activities need to be completed, the rest are optional. Please let Mr Woodward or Miss Clark know if you have any further questions regarding home work.
In Numeracy we have begun work on Place Value. This week we explored 4 digit numbers and what each of the digits represented (Thousands, Hundreds, Tens and Ones/Units). We also worked on ordering 4 digit numbers. Focusing on looking at the furthest left digit and moving inwards towards the hundreds and tens digits if the numbers were similar (e.g. 1456 and 1465). Next week we are going to be working on identifying the numbers “before”, “after”, “more than” and “less than” 4 digit numbers. Please ask your child what they have learned about 4 digit numbers.
In reading we are continuing with our novel study “Charlotte’s Web”. The children are enjoying the story so far and we have already met the main characters Wilbur and Fern. We are looking forward to meeting Charlotte herself next week! There is lots of excellent description in “Charlotte’s Web”. So much so that we were able to draw accurate pictures of Zuckerman’s Barn just by reading the description of it! This week we wrote our own descriptive paragraphs entitled “My Favourite Place”. The children wrote fantastic paragraphs that focused on what they could see, smell, hear and even touch and taste in their favourite places! They were so fantastic that Mr Shanks even wanted to see some! Keep up the good work Primary 4!

Hello everyone!
We are having a great week of learning in Primary 4! Last week we learned about the story of Easter and why Christians celebrated Easter in RME. Our big question (asked by Lucy G in P4C) was “What’s a bunny got to do with Easter?” We explored how Easter was a spring time celebration and often represented new life. We also spoke about the symbolic meaning of eggs in relation to spring and Easter. The children then made their own Easter baskets by folding paper and we filled them with some Easter treats!
In Numeracy we have been continuing to learn about fractions. This week we have been comparing fractions by putting them on a number line from smallest to largest. We discovered that the bigger the “denominator” was, the smaller the size of the fraction.
In school this week the children are completing SNSAs (Scottish National Standardised Assessments) in the areas of Reading, Numeracy and Mathematics and Writing. The children are working very hard and we are very proud of their achievements 🙂
Our dramas about the Viking creation story are really coming together. The children will be performing/filming tomorrow and we are really looking forward to seeing everyone’s hard work come to life 🙂
Last week in writing the children wrote fantastic fact files about one of the Viking gods (Thor, Freya, Odin or Loki). These pieces of writing were absolutely filled with interesting and surprising facts! The children are also working extremely hard to achieve their writing targets each week – we are very impressed P4!
Our last day of school is Thursday this week. We hope you have a fantastic Easter break and we look forward to welcoming the children back on Monday 19th April.

Welcome back to the P4 Blog!
Hello everyone!
Mr Woodward and I have loved welcoming to the children back to school! It is so lovely to be back together and learning again. The children were so excited to return and have been working so hard in every curricular area! We are very proud of them 🙂
Our new PE days for this term and after the Easter Holidays are:
Monday – PE with Miss Clark & Mr Woodward
Thursday – PE with Mrs Ferguson
Both sessions of PE will take place outdoors so please make sure your child is prepared with warm clothing, a waterproof jacket and shoes that you do not mind them getting wet/muddy.
In Reading we have been doing lots of rhyming and reading aloud activities related to “The Cat in the Hat” by Dr Suess. The children have really enjoyed exploring the rhyming words in this story and creating their own poems based on the rhymes called “What the Cat Did!” Mr Woodward and I were blown away by the children’s creativity – well done everyone 🙂
In Numeracy the children have been exploring fractions. This week we have focused on finding fractions of amounts. We have been using a variety of strategies to help us to do this including – drawing pictures on our whiteboards, using counters/cubes and using number squares. Well done everyone – keep up the good work!
Our Viking topic continues with the children beginning to create their own dramas to retell the Viking creation story. They have all chosen their own roles including acting, directing and some even choosing to be in charge of sound effects and production design! Each group will film their own dramas later in the week and we cannot wait to see the finished results!

Hello everyone
It has been a very fun and busy week again in Primary 4. Yesterday we finished filming our part of the nativity story for Carmondean’s “Christmas 7” Project. The children were able to watch our part in class today and were very excited and pleased about how it all came together! Keep your eyes peeled for a festive post on the blog next week from Mr Shanks which will contain the full finished product! We can’t wait for you to see it 🙂
In numeracy this week we began learning the 7 times table. The children are now confident in using their strategies to help them to solve times table problems and Mr Woodward and I are impressed with how quickly they are now being able to learn these new facts. Keep up the good work everyone!
Our Animals topic is nearly over and what a great topic it has been! This week we learned about endangered animals and the reasons why some animals are currently endangered. We learned some interesting new words such as – “poaching”, “climate change” and “deforestation”. Ask your child if they know what these words mean. Today the children then used their artistic skills to sketch close up images of some endangered animals. The children were given zoomed in images of the faces of a tiger, polar bear, panda and elephant. They had to look closely at the details in the picture and try to use a grid to copy the animal in proportion. We also learned about the importance of using thin, light lines when drawing the outline and how to shade the darker parts of our drawings with a pencil and smudging with our finger. Mr Woodward and I were extremely impressed with the finished results! Next week we are going to turn these works of art into posters where the children will use what they have learned to share messages about how to save these animals from possible extinction. Wow – well done Primary 4!
Important information:
– Next Friday (the 18th) is a dress down day in school. Children can come to school wearing a Christmas jumper, Christmas party clothes or casual clothes for a £1 donation. All monies go to the Carmondean PSA. The children will also be taking part in a Christmas Quiz!
– PE will take place as normal next week on Wednesday with Mrs Ferguson and on Friday with Miss Clark & Mr Woodward.
– This term will finish on Friday 18th December and the new term will resume on Wednesday 6th January 2021.
As this will be the last blog post of the term Mr Woodward and I would like to thank all of you for supporting your child and their learning so far in Primary 4. 2020 has been a strange year for all of us but it has been made easier for us as teachers by having your support and highly resilient and eager to learn children in both our classes!

Hello everyone
This week has been a fun, busy one in Primary 4! We were very excited to begin PE lessons with Mrs Ferguson on Wednesday (well done to everyone for remembering their PE kit!) The children learned of Primary 7’s challenge for the rest of the school to “Race to the North Pole!” before the Christmas holidays! The children ran, walked and skipped their way around the playground in order to add more miles to our tally. Primary 7 told us yesterday that collectively as a school we have ran the distance between here and Shetland already! We are looking forward to adding more miles to the total next week in PE!
In Reading we have been continuing to develop our skills of prediction and questioning. We predicted what would happen next by drawing and writing about the next part of a brand new story. Then we wrote questions for our friends about our reading books! Mr Woodward and I were very impressed with the open questions the children were asking which were often quite tricky to answer! Next week we will look at the skills of clarifying and summarising.
In Topic we are continuing to explore our “Animals” topic. The children showed their knowledge and understandings of food chains through describing the different stages of one. The children were able to use words like “producer”, “consumer”, “prey”, “predator”, “omnivore”, “carnivore”, “herbivore” and even “photosynthesis” to describe the process – wow! Ask your child if they know what these words mean 🙂
Preparation for our part of the Carmondean Christmas Show is coming along nicely. The children have learned a dance which will form part of the show as well as making signs to be shown during the performance. We are looking forward to filming the performance next week! Primary 4 27.11.20
Hello everyone!
We are having another fun and busy week in Primary 4.
This week the children found out about our school Christmas performance! Each stage in the school has been tasked with recreating a part of the Nativity story. The children have been excited to learn about Primary 4s plans and this week we began discussing different roles the children might have including dancing, acting and more! We are looking forward to putting our scene together 🙂
We have finished our work on 2D and 3D shape in Maths and we are now moving onto Symmetry. The children made a great start to this topic sharing lots of prior knowledge with Mr Woodward and I. We could identify which shapes were symmetrical and which shapes were not. The children used mirrors well to help them. Next week we will begin to create our own symmetrical shapes and objects.
In RME the children are beginning to learn about the Christmas Story with Miss Donaldson. This week they used Maps on the iPads to investigate where Nazareth and Bethlehem are in the world. They also explored how to get there from Scotland.
This week the children have been sharing the PowerPoints that they have spent the last few weeks creating all about their favourite animals. The children had to research information on their chosen animal including their habitat, diet, appearance and other interesting information. They also had to include text, pictures and slide transitions in their PowerPoint. Mr Woodward and I are so impressed with the PowerPoints that we have seen already and we have learned lots of new facts ourselves! We can’t wait to see the rest today!
Our PE days are changing.
Starting next week our PE days will be a Wednesday and a Friday each week. The Wednesday session will be with Mrs Ferguson our PE specialist while the Friday session will be with Mr Woodward and Miss Clark. Both sessions will continue to be outside. As the weather is becoming colder and more changeable please ensure that your child attends school on these days wearing long thick trousers/joggers, a school jumper, a thick jumper/zippy to change into at PE time and a waterproof jacket. The children will also require shoes on these days that are fine to get wet or muddy. Thank you for your support with this.
Reminders – Homework will be handed out on Monday each week. Each task will be on Teams but paper copies are also available from your child’s class teacher. The children have all three tasks explained in detail on the Monday and extra details can be found in assignments.

Yesterday your child should have come home with a class newsletter in their school bag. This details everything that we will be covering in class during the coming term.
Our PE days will continue to be on a Monday and a Friday for the next few weeks. Towards the end of November they will change when the one of P4’s PE lessons will be taken by Mrs Ferguson our PE specialist.
This week the children presented their class talks. Mr Woodward and I have been very impressed with the level of preparation and rehearsal that have went into creating and presenting these talks. Thank you everyone for all your hard work! If we have not heard your child present yet then we will hear them early next week 🙂

Primary 4 23.10.20
Hello everyone
It was lovely to welcome back the Primary 4 children back to school this week. We have got off to a flying start so far!
At the end of last term we finished our topic “Resilience through film”. The children wrote fantastic film reviews on either “Zootropolis”, “Moana” or “Inside Out” and showed great understandings of the plot, characters and setting of each film. The children were also able to discuss how the main characters in each of the films showed resilience. This week the children chose their new topic completely by themselves. We voted on our favourites and our new topic is… Animals! The children are very excited to begin this topic. We will be learning through Science, Technology and Art. We are looking forward to seeing how this topic unfolds.
Mr Woodward and I are looking forward to hearing the children’s class talks next week that they have been working on at home. We will begin to hear the children’s talks on Monday but will be listening to them throughout the week when each child is ready. There is more information on your child’s Teams page about this.
In Numeracy this week we have introduced the 6 times table to the children. They have made an excellent start on learning the stations of the 6 times table with a partner and also through listening to a very catchy song! We are sure the children will be 6 times table experts in no time!
Homework will resume on Teams on Monday. If you need paper copies of any of the activities then please let your child’s teacher know.

It was lovely to welcome back the Primary 4 children back to school this week. We have got off to a flying start so far!
At the end of last term we finished our topic “Resilience through film”. The children wrote fantastic film reviews on either “Zootropolis”, “Moana” or “Inside Out” and showed great understandings of the plot, characters and setting of each film. The children were also able to discuss how the main characters in each of the films showed resilience. This week the children chose their new topic completely by themselves. We voted on our favourites and our new topic is… Animals! The children are very excited to begin this topic. We will be learning through Science, Technology and Art. We are looking forward to seeing how this topic unfolds.
Mr Woodward and I are looking forward to hearing the children’s class talks next week that they have been working on at home. We will begin to hear the children’s talks on Monday but will be listening to them throughout the week when each child is ready. There is more information on your child’s Teams page about this.
In Numeracy this week we have introduced the 6 times table to the children. They have made an excellent start on learning the stations of the 6 times table with a partner and also through listening to a very catchy song! We are sure the children will be 6 times table experts in no time!
Homework will resume on Teams on Monday. If you need paper copies of any of the activities then please let your child’s teacher know.
PE days will remain a Monday and a Friday each week for the next few weeks.

Hello everyone
It has been another busy and fun filled week in Primary 4! Our topic is in full swing and this week we explored perseverance through the story of Zootropolis. The children were able to discuss times in their own lives that they had shown perseverance and how it made them feel once they achieved something that had been a real challenge. We listened to the song “Try Everything” and discussed the importance of trying new things even though they might be scary! Also in topic we learned about the importance of being “Bucket Fillers” through watching this video – Bucket fillers
Ask your child what it means to be a bucket filler or a bucket dipper! Then we made our own 3D origami buckets and decorated them. The children then wrote kind notes for each other and left them in each other’s buckets to read. There was a real buzz about the classrooms as the children learned the real joy of being kind and being treated with kindness. Well done P4!
In PE we finished our block of football by playing some mini tournament games. The children showed great sportsmanship and improving skills. Well done to all of our men and women of each match and to every member of Primary 4 for trying their best. Tomorrow we will begin to work on skipping in PE! This may be a challenge at first but we are sure that the perseverance and resilience that the children are learning about in topic will help them to achieve great results and improve their skills 🙂
This week we entered Primary 7’s litter competition! They have noticed that there has been a lot of extra rubbish in the playground recently so they are setting up a new campaign to encourage everyone to put their litter in the bin. The competition involved designing a monster that could be the mascot for this campaign. We were very impressed by Primary 4’s inventiveness and imagination!
Reminders –
Please ensure your child has a full bottle of water with them each day. This can be refilled throughout the day.
PE kit is required on Mondays and Fridays. Please note that all PE lessons are outdoors and that the weather is very changeable right now!
Monday and Tuesday next week (21st and 22nd) are school holidays in West Lothian so the children should not return to school until Wednesday 23rd September.

Hello everyone
We’ve had a very fun and busy week in Primary 4. We started to learn through our new topic this week. It is all about Resilience and persevering even when things get tough. We are exploring this topic through the Disney films – Moana, Inside Out and Zootropolis. This week we learned about Moana’s struggles to convince Maui to help her to achieve her goals. She tried and tried and tried and even when she was faced with big challenges she never gave up. As a result we decided to set ourselves goals for the month. We will try to achieve this goal before the October holidays and we will feedback on our progress every week. Please ask your child what their goal is! 🙂 These will be displayed on our walls so that we can all celebrate our own and each other’s achievements.
In PE we have been learning the skills of football for a few weeks now. We have worked on passing, dribbling and shooting. Next week we will play some tournament style football games. We’re looking forward to seeing the children show off their skills!
In writing we have been working on imaginative writing. The children have been using story starters as inspiration for some fantastic tales of adventure, magic and mystery! Mr Woodward and I have been very impressed by the children’s stories so far. They have been focused on writing detailed descriptions of settings and characters as well as remember our core targets of including full stops and capital letters and spelling all common words correctly. Well done Primary 4! In the next few weeks we will be moving onto personal writing.

Hello everyone
It has been fantastic to see the children happy and settled in class this week. The boys and girls have been working very hard and are surprising Mr Woodward and I all the time with the quality of their written work and how well they are adapting to the new school routines.
This week in maths we have been exploring length. We used rulers and metre sticks to measure the length of various objects in the classroom. We also developed the skill of estimating by making an “educated guess” about the length of much larger items in our classrooms. Next week we will explore items in the outdoor environment whilst also looking at a new length – millimetres.
This week in Health we have been exploring SHANARRI. SHANARRI (Safe, Healthy, Achieving, Nurtured, Active, Respected, Responsible and Included) are wellbeing indicators that the children have been exploring this week in class through a group challenge. Each group has been given one of the SHANARRI indicators to research. They then created a poster that shared their new found knowledge and understandings,. Next week they will present their information and poster to the class. Please ask your child for more information on this as they are now experts on this subject! 🙂

Please remember that our PE days are Monday and Friday. Children should come to school dressed for the outdoors and can stay in their PE kit all day. As the Scottish Government expectation is now for the children to be outdoors as much as is possible then please note that the children may also be outside at breaks or lunches when the weather is wet/windy. Please ensure your child has appropriate footwear and outerwear/waterproof jacket etc to be outside comfortably in this kind of weather even if the weather is dry when the children are leaving for school. Thank you for your support with this. Please note that the children should also bring a full bottle of water to school each day. This can be refilled upon request throughout the day.

Hello everyone
Our first full week back in Primary 4 has been a great one so far! The children have continued to adjust very well to our new class and school routines and Mr Woodward and I have been very impressed with their work ethic and their super manners – keep it up Primary 4! 🙂
This week we have began to revise areas of Numeracy such as addition, subtraction and times table facts. The children have impressed us with their numeracy skills! We will continue to revise known facts for the next few weeks to ease the children back into learning at school.
In Reading, both classes have began reading a new class novel. P4C are reading “Ottoline and the Yellow Cat” while Mr Woodward’s class are reading “The Legend of Spud Murphy”. The children will complete activities related to their reading book in class and will receive no reading book home this term. We will continue to hear the children read in class regularly. Please also encourage your child to read at home for enjoyment.
Our PE days will be Monday and Friday. Children should come to school on these days dressed for PE in appropriate clothing for the outdoors. If the weather is very bad we may not be able to do PE on our scheduled PE days but we will endeavor to ensure we get outside on another drier day of the week instead (as happened this week).

Welcome back Primary 4!
Hello everyone!
Miss Clark & Mr Woodward here. We are the Primary 4 teachers this year. We were delighted to welcome back the new Primary 4 children to Carmondean on Wednesday. The children were happy to be back and there was a real buzz about the classrooms and the playground with everyone excited to see their friends again and be in their brand new classrooms.
We will update the blog every week to let you know about our adventures in Primary 4 as well as reminders and other important information so watch this space 🙂
On Wednesday we explored two different stories all about feelings. “The Colour Monster” and “Lucy’s Blue Day” both told the story of characters who changed colour depending on how they were feeling. We spoke a lot about our feelings, how we can tell how we are feeling and what we can do if we feel sad, worried or angry. We will continue to explore this today in class.
Our PE days will be on a Monday and a Friday. Please note that all PE will take place outdoors so appropriate kit should include – old trainers, long jogging bottoms/trousers, a t-shirt and jumper/hoodie for when the weather gets colder. On our PE days (Monday and Friday) the children can come to school in their PE kit and stay in it for the full day. They do not need to get changed back into their school uniform at any point. We will begin PE lessons this coming Monday.
We will send a newsletter home in the next week detailing more information about what we will be learning in the coming weeks. Please look out for this.
We really appreciate all the support you have provided the children on their return to school. We are sure that although different, we will have a very fun and exciting year ahead of us in Primary 4 🙂
