## Primary 6 7/10/2021

This week in Primary 6, we have been learning how to multiply and divide numbers by 10, 100 and 1000 through a combination of number and worded questions.

To apply for the position of pupil council representative the children had to  complete a job application form. The children had to think about the skills and qualities they would need to be a good pupil council representative.

In reading, the children analyzed a passage which described a setting in great detail.  The children had to identify the adjectives and other key words which helped visualize where the setting. The children loved using this information to draw and colour the setting.

In Spanish P6 have been learning how to say colours and in French they have been learning to describe their hair and eye colour in detail.

## Primary 6 wb 13/9/21

Hello everyone

It has been another busy week in Primary 6 this week! In Spanish we have been learning how to pronounce colours and write the colours in words using the feminine and masculine spellings. In French we have consolidated our knowledge of the numbers from 1-100 through dance!

In Technologies we have continued exploring coding. Last week, we learned that algorithms are instructions for computers and they need to be very accurate. This week, we have applied this knowledge to create instructions to get from one object on our table to another. We have used our knowledge of angles and compass points to design our instructions and then tested the accuracy of the instructions using tape. If our instructions were not correct we had to “debug” them by fixing them.

In maths we have been learning about different types of angles such as acute, right angled and obtuse. We have also learned that the total amount of degrees in a shape can vary. We used our problem solving skills to find the missing angle in triangles and quadrilaterals.

In P.E we are beginning to develop our football skills! We have been practising using our right and left foot to dribble and pass the ball.

## Primary 6 7.9.21

Hello everyone and happy Tuesday!

Primary 6 have been busy bees already this week. In Spanish and French we have been learning to count forwards and back. In Spanish we have been learning to count from 1-31 and we played some very competitive games of bingo to consolidate our knowledge. In French we have been learning the numbers from 1-100 with the help of this song: French Numbers 1-100 Song
Feel free to practice at home P6! 🙂

In Technologies we have been exploring coding. We know that an algorithms are instructions for computers. We also know that algorithms need to be very accurate in order for a computer to follow our instructions exactly. We have been playing coding games on: Coding Games
These games have been helping us to learn how to “debug” our algorithms if we’ve not quite given the computer the correct instructions. Primary 6 have shown a lot of resilience today often having to try several times to debug an algorithm.

Reminders
Homework is due in on Friday. This can be submitted on Teams or be brought into school as a paper copy.
PE days are Tuesday and Wednesday. Please remember PE uniform means that non uniform hoddies/jumpers should only be worn during outdoor PE sessions themselves and not throughout the school day.
Please send your child to school with a full water bottle each day. This can be refilled when required.

## Primary 5 – 20.11.2020

Hello,

A huge thank you to all in Primary 5 who helped to organise Children in Need this year. We managed to raise a massive £565.55! The winning duck of the Duck Race was Quackman and Bobbin, and the winner of each class received a bag of sweeties which were gratefully received.

In Maths the children took on the challenge of using protractors to measure angles. It was quite tricky getting used to the new piece of equipment but they all tried really hard.  In Coordinates, the learners were plotting points and naming the coordinates – using the correct brackets and commas format.

In Reading, the children are well into their routines of using their reciprocal reading cards and all are becoming confident in each of their reading roles; predictor, summarising, clarifying, questioner and Big Boss.

In a connected theme in writing this week, children were persuading ‘Aliendino’, a new arrival to planet Earth, ‘why reading is important’. We had some great discussions on how much reading can impact on our lives and were able to form some strong arguments.  The children were also looking ahead to why reading was important for when they go to high school and beyond!

In Science, the children’s Endangered Animals fact-files are coming along well. We are still continuing to find many interesting facts about our chosen animal and how we can help protect them from extinction.

This week in our Great Britain and Northern Ireland topic, the class have been continuing to work in their groups on their display posters. Many of the groups are finding creative ways to display their information and have produced some really great pieces of work. The children are very excited about their Landmark Challenge and we are hearing lots of stories about the creations in progress.

In RME, we have been learning about the patron saints of Great Britain and Northern Ireland over he past month. We have studied the lives of St David, St George and St Patrick and next week we will be studying our own St Andrew, just in time for St Andrews Day!

Both classes are continuing to learn how to greet in each other in Spanish. They are able to say ‘hola, and mi nombre es.. and adios’ – a quick translation ‘hello, my name is and goodbye! This week the children learned how to ask someone their name – ¿Como te llamas? and to informally introduce themselves ‘Me llamo’

Reminders

• In Numeracy, the children need to use their number bonds and their times tables on a regular basis and it would be very helpful if they could get some extra practice in. Please practice 2-10 times tables and number bonds to 100.
• Homework on TEAMS this week is a spelling and numeracy activity. The children will also continue working on their Landmark Challenge at home, which is due in on Friday 27th
• Some children were able to complete the activities online and some used their homework jotter. This jotter can be returned to school each week or they can take a picture of their work and upload that to the photo channel in their Team. Please just complete the activities at a time most convenient for you and your family.

• PE- Tuesday and Thursday

Please ensure the children have the correct kit for going outdoors- trainers, trackies/joggers, t-shirt and fleece/hoodie. They can come to school wearing their PE kit but a school jumper must be worn during the day. They can then change into their outdoor jumper when we go outside.

• The children have chosen a book to read for enjoyment in class and it would be appreciated if you could continue to encourage your child to read for enjoyment at home.

## Primary 5- 30.10.2020

Hello,

It has been a busy week in Primary Five!

In Reading the children have started working in their Reciprocal Reading groups and seem to be enjoying their new books. They have been working on their reading skills including predicting what is going to happen next, summarising what they have read, asking questions and clarifying any tricky words.

In Writing this week, the class were working on creative stories with a Halloween theme.  We listened to some Halloween music to get in the mood before writing some excellent, spooky stories using lots of adjectives and descriptions.

In Maths the children have been continuing to work on reading the exact time and time intervals. We are really improving with our time reading skills but everyone could do with a little bit more practice.

This week Primary 5M started with Spanish lessons where we were learning basic greetings. We were absolutely amazed by some of the children’s Spanish skills who were even able to teach us a thing or two! Primary 5G will be starting their lessons next week. Both classes are continuing with French this term and will be moving on to colours, numbers and food!

In Science, we have started our new topic of Endangered Animals. We had some excellent discussions about the impact of climate change on animals all over the world, and discussed what we can do to help. Over the term we will be doing lots of research into our chosen endangered Scottish animal to create a fact-file book.

There was much excitement in Primary 5 when we started planning the school activities for Children in Need. We made some colourful posters to advertise these activities; Dress Down Day on Friday 13th November bring £1, Duck Race choose a duck for 50p and Pudsey wristbands for a reasonable donation.   These posters will be put up in all classrooms and corridors to encourage everyone to take part.

Congratulations to Oliver in Primary 5G for winning the P7 Design-a-Bin competition!! His fantastic design is currently being made into a bin for the playground! We cannot wait to see the finish product!

## Primary 5

Hello Everyone,

We have had a busy week in P5. It was lovely to meet lots of you at Meet the Teacher on Wednesday. Hopefully you were able to see some of the work the children have completed so far.

We have been working on our display for the small hall all about achievement. The children were able to identify some of their personal achievements which they wrote about and drew a picture of. They also drew round their hands and used a variety of patterns to decorate them.

We started our Great Britain topic by looking at maps and labeling the different countries. Look out for exciting homework about landmarks coming home next week.

The children have started French (bonjour) and Spanish (hola) lessons this week. If anyone has any expertise in these areas and would like to come in and share their knowledge with the children please contact at school.

We have started reading our class novel, ‘The Spiderwick Chronicles’. We are aware that the movie is being shown on the television at the moment so we would appreciate it if the children do not watch it as we are hoping to watch it altogether at the end of term.

Reminders

• Outdoor PE- Monday. Kit-trackies/joggers, trainers, warm sweatshirt
• Indoor PE- Thursday. Kit- shorts, t-shirt, indoor shoes

Homework

• Spelling homework- given out on a Monday due in by Friday.

• Children to read a variety of genres at home eg. newspaper, magazines, novels, non-fiction books.

## Friday 9th November 2018 – Primary 5

We have had another busy week in Primary 5.

The children have started learning Spanish, starting with the alphabet.

For our Topic, we have started learning about Endangered Animals all around the world. Discovering what animals are endangered and what is being done to help them.

In Art, we were learning about the artist, Charles Rennie Mackintosh and looking at his work.  The children have been busy making clay tiles influenced by Mackintosh, once dry they carefully painted them and added black pen for the finer details.

Primary 5 are again organising this year’s Children in Need Fundraising event.  Dress down day on Friday 17th wearing  something spotty.  All the pupils can dress down, please give a minimum donation of 50p.  Primary 5 will be going round the classes selling Pudsey ears, badges, wristbands and keyrings.

Please remember that we have outdoor PE on a Monday and indoor PE on a Thursday, PE kit is essential.
