We thought you would like to see our work this afternoon!
We successfully worked in our home teams to follow instructions and make either a weather vane or a wind sock.
Here are some of the finished pieces before we went outside to test them out. We were so proud of the results!
One of our sports committee reps was putting stickers received on the chart today. We currently have 58 but still need your help to get to the 300 target. Thanks in advance.
It has been a short week but we have been doing a lot in Primary 3. Summer Winter has come back from her long weekend and has done a good job of hanging around (literally). P3 have been teaching her all about rainbows and how they are made and we have been using lots of items to make our own rainbows indoors, the classrooms were so colourful! We have been writing and filming our very own weather reports as well and we can tell we have some budding weather presenters in our midst.
Pupils put on their navy hats in maths as we learned co-ordinates using Battleships. There was a cross-class competition before the pupils did their own and Miss Smith’s class were the clear winners. There was lots of competition going on and lots of enthusiasm and this challenge has also formed part of the next fortnight’s homework.

Did you know the Rugby World Cup starts this weekend? Scotland play their first game on Sunday morning against Ireland.
P7
They learned about rebounding the ball after a shot has been taken. They tried this in small group practice and then put the learning into 2 v 2 games.

We got outside for Cross Country training and let the dice decide how far they were to run! And then they had to work out what pace we could run the distance. It’s 2 weeks until they take part in the cluster event at Dechmont Law so if they can try and run over the weekend that would improve their stamina even more.

They had fun working with a partner to make letters of the alphabet with their bodies. They took pictures using the ipads to see whether or not it looked really like the letter. Partners then gave advice on how to make the letter shape better.

Today they recapped balances and then linked a balance with a roll. eg Front support to pencil roll There were so many ideas and it was great to be able to share these with a partner and sometimes with the whole class.
P3A
The class played games that helped with throwing and catching. They worked out that team mates should move closer to the person throwing the ball to make it a bit easier and ensure they can catch.
P3B
Today we were learning how to cartwheel using benches, mats and dots on the floor. lots of the class can already cartwheel and they were challenged to manage it in a straight line , or along or over a bench.

We have had quite a few letters from bossy Mrs Thunder this week, giving us our missions and tasks to help SummerWinter, our weather fairy. We had to learn about the water cycle and the scientific words. We then used our knowledge of the water cycle into a drama, where we became the water and had to think of movements to symbolise each stage. We had so much fun and filmed the whole thing to be used as a training video for SummerWinter.
Our next mission is to recreate a weather forecast in teams. We hope to do some green screen work with this and film it also. We can’t wait to see whether people have been watching the weather forecasts over the past few weeks to help with the language we should use. Hopefully there will be some information on this in our ‘Share It’ jotters.
We are impressing everyone with our number talks techniques and strategies for partitioning numbers and using it to add together numbers mentally. We need to practice subtraction, as this has proven a little more tricky.
Next week is a short week, however the children have asked to learn about rainbows and how they are created. We have some fun experiments planned to explain this.
Please remember we are on holiday Monday and Tuesday next week, and Share It jotters should be brought into school alongside reading books to be returned and replaced. New books will not be given out until old books are returned.

PE Kit
It’s been a fantastic week in PE with P7A winning the first Most Prepared for PE Certificate of the year when all of the class brought PE kit for their basketball lesson. Please help your child to remember their PE kit on PE days as it is much easier, more comfortable and usually safer to take part in PE with shorts/leggings, t-shirt and gym shoes than while wearing school uniform. They are all desperate to get a certificate 3 weeks in a row because that wins their class a choice of activity for PE.

Just a formal welcome back after our first full week in Primary 3, it has been such a busy week. We have been working hard completing our Class Charters and the pupils have had some really good discussions about class rules and why we prioritised different things. We have also been doing a lot of work on our achievements and celebrating our achievements which will go towards creating our frieze for the small hall, we have a talented bunch! We have had Meet the Teacher and it was lovely to see so many people there. Thank you for handing back our achievements sheets and class charter forms so quickly, can those who are still to hand theirs back please hand them in at your earliest convenience?

We are well and truly in the midst of our Ocean Commotion topic now. We have been learning about the fish and their adaptations to be able to live in the different parts of the sea. We found out how fossils are formed and why the sea is the perfect place for fossils to exist, with all the mud at the bottom of the ocean and the pressure from the water.
In Science, we used electrical circuits to make our own glowing fish who live in the twilight and midnight zones of the ocean. Some of these fish make their own light, so we used batteries, bulbs and wires to make our fish light up. Can you see where we placed the bulbs?
We had a letter from Peanut the turtle, asking us to investigate why some of his friends were having trouble in the ocean due to something called ‘plastic’. Our freeze in the classroom is overcrowded by plastic packaging and particles too and now our fish are swimming in a rubbish ridden ocean.
We are currently learning how this affects the wildlife in the ocean and how long it takes for certain items to change in appearance. Quite often, plastic stays in the same appearance for hundreds of years.
We were shocked at the effects of the mammals and fish in the sea.
In other news, we are beginning to collect a LOT of school jumpers, cardigans, T-shirts, and parts of PE kits with no name. If you recognise any of these items from P3B, please speak to Miss Smith who will be happy to give them all a home. 🙂
Tuesday of next week is our big Spring clean, where we will be going to the playground to do a big clean up, doing gardening and collecting rubbish.

Primary 2 welcomed Mark from Livingston Cricket Club this week for a taster session about the All Stars Cricket Programme that is starting at the club very soon. They had great fun and learned new words and skills associated with the game of cricket. Many took home a flyer with information for signing up for the All Stars Programme however it’s not just for P2’s – anyone aged 5 -8 years old is able to take part so for further information please check out

When signing up to the sessions participants will also receive a goodie bag with a bag, cricket bat, ball, baseball cap and tshirt.
Welcome back everyone! We hope you all had a relaxing Easter break!
This week we have started our new topic which we have decided to call ‘Ocean Commotion’. The children have been impressing us so far with some of their knowledge, but we still have so much more we are eager to learn. The children have suggested lines of enquiry for this topic and have outlined activities they wish to do as well, so the topic is truly made from their ideas and questions.
To kick start the topic, we have learned about a turtle called ‘Peanut’, and how his life was changed because of ocean pollution and the carelessness of humans. He has grown up in captivity, therefore we have been finding out more about his natural habitat and who he would have shared the sea with. So far, we have learned of the zones of the sea and the creatures we could find within. We will be creating a vision of this in our classrooms in a display which we are very excited about!
This week is also Lowport. It is Miss Smith’s first time going too and so we are all very excited! We have put together a little talent show by the pupils for our disco night too which we are looking forward to. We are a very talented lot!
Please remember, if you have not already ordered a packed lunch for Thursday and need one, to hand in the yellow form or speak to someone in the office. Also, if the EE2 information form has not been completed and returned, could this be done at your earliest convenience? In addition to this, medication should be handed into the office prior to the trip.
We will take lots of photos to share our experience with you when we return.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank all parents for your support this term. You have gone above and beyond in making our big homework castles, sourcing sticks for bows and arrows and coming along to watch and enjoy our assembly and banquet. Also coming in to see the children with their amazing strategies in our Number Talks lessons. The children have thoroughly enjoyed this term and it was lovely to see so many of you come to allow us to display our learning to a captive audience.
We wish you a fantastic Easter break when the time comes – very well earned for the children too.
Next term will see the pupils choice of learning turned into a topic for them, so watch this space. The ideas are pointing in a very specific direction of oceans, sea creatures, plastics, the future and extinction.

Thank you to everyone who brought in their favourite book today for World Book Day.
We loved seeing all of the different books and in Primary 3, we had recipe books, fact books, story books, picture books, pocket books and poem books! It was so interesting hearing about why these were your favourite, and we enjoyed learning from the Primary 5s what theirs were too.
We began having a look at our class Parent Assembly on knights and castles today and we are beginning to hand out parts. We will have these out by Monday next week. Please keep an eye out for these and help your child to learn their words. We are very excited to share with you what we have been learning. The date for your diaries is Friday the 29th March. Letters about this will follow.
Next week primary 6 are hosting a bake sale to raise money for Comic Relief. This will happen on Thursday 14th. Also, on Friday the 15th, it will be a dress down day, with the theme “Crazy Hair/ Crazy Dress” and they ask a donation of 50p is brought in on this day. We have a number of other things happening in school for this as well and P6 have been working hard to make it an enjoyable day for all whilst raising money for this great cause.
Please could P3 ask for children to bring in a stick from home next week. This will be used for us to make a bow and arrow set and complete some science investigations with them. Any stick from outside will do, as long as it is strong.
Letters will be handed out soon for our up coming trip as well, so please keep an eye out for these in bags. We are heading to Edinburgh Castle on the 20th of March as a nice finish to our castles topic.

Primary 3 have had a busy week. We have been continuing to learn about life in medieval times and what it would be like to live in a castle. A ‘Big Homework’ task has been issued. The children are to make a poster or a model of a castle which includes the main features of a castle. Any material can be used (paper, cardboard. clay or plasticine, for example.) Once the models or posters have been brought into school, the children will tell the rest of the class all about their model.
On Thursday there will be a Valentine’s Dress Down Day. If the children would like to take part in this a donation of 50p is asked for.
As I am sure you know Parent’s Evening is on Wednesday and Thursday this week. The bookings can be made on-line or alternatively appointments can be made by contacting the school office.
The first Primary 3 ‘Shared Finish’ will be on Wednesday 20 February at 2.50pm. It will be a time for you to see how we are teaching mental calculatons at this stage. We look forward to seeing you then.

Our Knights and Castles Topic has been in full swing this week! We worked in our home teams on two different challenges. We worked in our groups to create a life size knight in armour along with weapons. We had to think of how to make parts of our knight move as well but we will finish this part of the challenge next week. Here are some of our knights in the process of being made.
We learned a lot more about what the medieval people did when under siege. We learned about attack and defence tactics, alongside some of the weapons they may have used.
As part of our maths, and science/technology, we worked within our home team groups and made a model similar to a trebuchet (a type of catapult). We tested the forces we needed to use to make the catapult hit the target of the castle. Our longest fire we measured to be 70cm!
Please look out for our yellow letters sent home about a shared start and a shared finish. If you are interested in coming along, the Primary 3 dates are as follows:

We will be showing you our number talks lessons and how we can calculate sums mentally. We will discuss how our brain works with different strategies in Maths.

This week we have learned about how to look after ourselves and stay clean and healthy. We did a glitter experiment whereby we put it on our hands and watched as it spread to everything we touched. (We also, at this point, had a brief discussion about the importance of using biodegradable glitter and what this word meant!) We discussed how this happens with germs every day and we can’t see them. This led to a discussion about foods and things we put near our mouths using our hands and we were all able to see why it is so important to wash our hands properly before we eat.
We will continue by looking at clean and dirty water, as well as healthy eating over the next few weeks.
The children did very well with their Burns poems, and although not everyone was confident in reciting theirs in front of the class in P3S, they all managed to it off by heart. Most even brought theirs to life with expression and gestures. Well done to Lauren, Ben, Alfie and Holly who went through to the class vote.
We enjoyed hearing all of the poetry in our whole school Burns celebration on Friday morning. What a talented lot of children we have! We look forward to sharing our recital talents and singing in front of the senior citizens at our Burns afternoon on Monday.
This week we will be creating life size knights with their protective armour and weapons and writing about how it would have felt to be a knight.

Choukie Dog Show Twa-Leggit Mice
This week, we have started to learn about castles. Lots of us have been to real castles so this helped us when we drew and labeled what we thought a castle looked like. Since then, we have learned the real names of the parts of a castle and what they are for.
We have even written an imaginative descriptive story about what we could see when we stood outside a castle.
We have been learning some new boost words this week. Ask us about them and see whether we can remember what they are and what they mean. Test us to see if we can use the word in a sentence too! We will impress you!
In a few week’s time, we will be hosting a poetry competition in school. The winners will recite their poems at the Scots afternoon for senior citizens who have been invited. We will be sending home words to practise but will also be rehearsing and reciting these in class. The words for the poems can be accessed at the top of this blog post.
Reminders
Please bring appropriate kit on PE days. We will be outside for PE every week and therefore should come prepared, especially for the colder weather. No shorts please. Please check children’s diaries for the correct days.
Please label all clothing brought into school, PE or school uniform, as we have bundles of unclaimed things most weeks which have no names on.
Look out for new GLOW passwords in the back of spelling homework jotters. These should be used in the event of a school closure on snow days and activities will be provided. Please copy these onto something at home so the children can access GLOW at all times, should their jotters still be in school.

Happy New Year.
Primary 3 are glad to be back at school and ready to learn about our new topic, which is called ‘Knights and Castles.’ This week we will be looking at how we imagine castles look like and then comparing our drawings with pictures of real castles, looking at the key features. It should be a lot of fun.
Soon a Scots poem will be coming home for homework. All children are expected to learn their chosen poem and then to recite it in class. We will be working on the poems in school as well, so that the children can recite their poem with confidence and expression. Two children from each class will then be chosen to recite their poem at the school Burns Assembly.
Please could the children remember to bring appropriate gym kit to school? The days that outdoor/ indoor gym kit is required are written in the homework diaries.

Primary 3 have had a very busy week. On Friday it was a Children in Need Dress Down Day and we all enjoyed seeing and wearing spotty outfits and Pudsey costumes.
Last week we continued practising our Nativity. The songs are coming on really well and we are pleased some of the children have been using the blog to have a go at home. Most of the children who have a speaking part have been working hard to learn their words too. It will be a brilliant performance!
We have also been learning ‘Bonnie Wee Jeannie McColl’ for our Scottish Assembly and children have taken words home to practise.
In our topic work we have been looking at how areas around us can be made more accessible for disabled people. We have made people who will live on our ‘Inclusion Street’ and we are beginning to think of adaptions that might be needed for them. We will be continuing with this next week.

Primary 3 were introduced to the senses this week. We investigated things we liked to smell, touch, taste, see and hear. Next week we will focus on the sense of sight. We learned a little about the work of Louis Braille in creating the braille alphabet. We will explore this further next week.
We created some fantastic Firework Safety posters in writing this week so please ask us all about the safety rules. We now know what to do on bonfire night with sparklers, fireworks and bonfires.
Please if anyone has lost cardigans or jumpers in the past term, ask to see the pile in Miss Smith’s room. None of them have names, however they must belong to somebody. They will go up to lost property at the end of the week if they are not claimed.

Welcome back! We hope you all had a fantastic October break.
This week Primary three finished our weather topic and said goodbye to Summer Winter who had been with us since our first few weeks in Primary three. We helped her learn along with us in lots of the learning opportunities provided from our topic. We spend a little time this week designing and deciding on our new topic, “Inclusion,” and the children have thought of questions they would like answered throughout their learning.
The Halloween party was a huge success and the outfits this year were amazing. The hard work and effort taken to produce the costumes and make-up was clear for all to see and the children had a ball!
We will begin learning songs for our Nativity soon and auditioning for parts.
This week Poppies will be on sale. We ask that a donation of at least 50p is given should your child wish a poppy.
