LGBT at Willowbank

The Stars class did lots of LGBT activities this week. We read the book, ‘Together’, and discussed friendship. We explored different families and how to be a good friend then chose what activities we would most like to do with our friends. Parachute games was very popular! We created rainbow flags, a friendship poster and made rainbow cakes at HE. On Purple Friday we had a showcase of our learning in the hall where we showed a video of us singing, ‘I Love You’.

LGBT – Purple Friday

Today is Purple Friday. We are having whole school activities. This morning all the primary classes came together in the hall to share their learning and activities completed about their LGBT  book.  All classes also shared their song/jingle about family. Some classes shared a video and some classes performed it live. The Sunflowers had made rainbow pizzas and shared this. The Daisies shared  similarities and differences from their book Giraffe’s Can’t Dance. The Snowdrops performed their family jingle live with makaton signing. The Bluebells performed their song live. The Sungazers class has symbols to show the audience so we could participate too. The Stars showed a video of their song as some of their friends were on their outing. The Moonbeams had a board to share their learning and have used technology to complete their rainbow flag.

The secondary this morning completed the purple activities in the atrium. Some of the activities included sensory colour find with water beads and purple rice. This was a favourite. The Oak and Transition prepared a purple string art activity which looked amazing. The Sunflowers and Daisies made some purple lacing picture for their friends to enjoy.

Scottish Activities in the Stars Class

As it was Robert Burn’s birthday we enjoyed a morning of Scottish activities. We dressed up in kilts and tartan sashes and enjoyed shortbread at snack time followed by Scottish country dancing. We danced to the St Bernard’s Waltz and Canadian Barn Dance before doing the Hokey Cokey in Scots. We played tattie boccia  then finished by doing ‘turns’. We did ‘Buy Me a Banana’, ‘Wee Willie Winkie, ‘My Bonnie Lies Over the Ocean’, ‘Three Craws’ and ‘Coulter’s Candy’. Lunch was haggis, neeps and tatties. We all had a grand time.

FAOL – Outdoor Learning

The Stars class made bird feeders to feed to hungry birds in our sensory garden during the cold weather. We mixed together lard and bird seed then filled yogurt pots we’d saved from snack time. The pots were tied up high around the garden for the birds to access.
