IDL – Social Studies

We have been exploring different jobs people may have. When reading the stories we have been exploring the jobs people have on the island. We were confident individuals and completed jigsaws matching people in their work uniform. We had to pick the correct head, body and legs to create a whole person. We also dressed up and were effective contributors and completed some jobs in the classroom. Some pupils had hi-vis vests on and put rubbish in the bin pretending to be bin men. We pretended to have a train the class and boarded the train to take us to the shop where we decided what we wanted to buy. We also dressed up and pretended to go to see the doctor and she used the phone to talk to her patients.

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory

The Stars class visited CC’s Chocolate Creations in Kilmarnock to watch the owner, Carol, make fantastic chocolate bars and shapes. Carol invited us to dip marshmallows in melted chocolate. They smelled and tasted delicious. As Charlie and the Chocolate Factory is our theme this term we bought not a golden ticket but a golden bar of chocolate for class. Yum! The rest of the class will visit CC’s Chocolate Creations on our next allocated bus day.

Scottish Activities in the Stars Class

As it was Robert Burn’s birthday we enjoyed a morning of Scottish activities. We dressed up in kilts and tartan sashes and enjoyed shortbread at snack time followed by Scottish country dancing. We danced to the St Bernard’s Waltz and Canadian Barn Dance before doing the Hokey Cokey in Scots. We played tattie boccia  then finished by doing ‘turns’. We did ‘Buy Me a Banana’, ‘Wee Willie Winkie, ‘My Bonnie Lies Over the Ocean’, ‘Three Craws’ and ‘Coulter’s Candy’. Lunch was haggis, neeps and tatties. We all had a grand time.

Busy week

The week has been a busy week in the Sunflower class. We have started learning the songs for our nativity. We went a walk around the local area and visited the new Remembrance garden and the Cenotaph to see the poppy wreaths that we laid last week.

We have been busy making our tree for the wall display in the atrium. We were drawing round our hands of different green material and the attached them to the tree shape and added glitter to make it sparkle.

We read a story about how to build a snowman and then cut out the pictures and stuck them down to sequence the story using the pictures.
