Primary 3 Snow Day 3!

Hi all!

Hope you’re enjoying all this snow still! My boys have enjoyed trying to bury themselves in it today!

What have you been up to?

Instead of building a snowman today, could you build a castle? Include all of its features such as a snowy moat?

You could wrap snowballs in different materials and leave them for ten minutes in a bowl and see which was the best insulator? Which was the worst?

If you are inside why not curl up with a good book or even draw me a picture diary of the last few days you’ve had at home?

Stay warm!

Mrs Smith & Mr Gordon

Primary 5 Snow Day 3

Good morning Primary 5

I hope you are all staying warm and having fun in the snow.

Here are some activites you can do today.

Mrs Jamieson’s maths set, make a poster to show your understanding of equivalent fractions.  Use pictures and numbers to show different fractions.

Miss Farren’s maths set can make a fraction wall and identify the equivalent fractions as we began in class.

Make a list of spelling words containing ch as in scheme and ache.  Make a wordsearch to hide the words in.

Go our and measure the largest snowdrift in your garden and the longest icicle.

Design a snow poster: Draw and label all the activities you have been doing during your days off. Bring your poster to share with us in school or post us a selfie picture!

Have a lovely day

Mrs Jamieson and Miss Farren

Snow day 3

Hi Everyone,

Well done to all the children who have sent in pictures of what they have been doing. It is good to see all the inventive ways you are completing work.

My reading groups keep practicing your reading. This can be your school reading book or something you are reading at home. Next week if would be good if you could bring in any comics, magazines or books you have been reading to share with the group.

My math group keep a list of the games you have been playing to share with the group next week. Which is your favourite?

P6 and P7 I hope you are finding time to practice your words for the show. You could ask other family members to play the other parts to help you.

Euro Quiz group it would be good if you could share any interesting facts with us. What is the most obscure fact you have found? What fact has surprised you?

Enjoy your snow day but keep safe and warm.

Mrs Gilmour

Primary 7 – Snow day 3

Hello Primary 7!

I hope you have all been having a great time out in the snow! Have you been out to measure how deep the snow at your house is?

If you would like to take part in a science experiment using ice/snow from outside why not try this? All you need is a timer, water, sugar, salt and ice/snow. Which will melt first/last and why do you think this happens? How could you improve this experiment? Share your results in the comments section.

There have been lots of activities which you can take part in posted on the blog if you are looking for ideas. If you want some more take a look at the following:

You could work on your spelling words – why not get someone to test you on this weeks words or challenge another family member to speed write with you?

Your My Life so Far first draft is due in on Friday (9th March). You could carry on working on your project.

Your WW2 project is also due in just before the Easter holidays.

You could create your own bootcamp style workout which you could share on here/or at our next PE session

For maths – you could try to create 10 questions based on your current learning. You could get someone at home to answer these or post them on the blog? (Remember you will need to know the answers for these too!)

You could continue to learn your script/song words/dance moves for the school show.

Don’t forget to comment/share photos to let us know what you have been getting up to!

Have fun and stay safe in the snow!

Mrs Macaulay & Miss Clark

Primary 6: Snow Day 3

Good morning everyone, hopefully you’ve been having lots of fun in the snow so far! Remember to look through the blog at all the fantastic activities that you might want to try out throughout your day and if you have any activities you’ve been doing please share to give inspiration to others!
Remember to keep practising your spelling words and times tables, maybe get someone to write out times tables sums in the snow and time yourself filling in the answers? Keep rehearsing your show words and songs as well, and try to play around with how you’re saying the lines, remember to look at characters in TV and film that are similar to your character and try to copy some of their actions.
Euro-quiz team, please use the extra time you have to focus on researching and testing yourselves. Look at landmarks, famous people both current and historical, rivers and mountains, who shares a border with who, what languages are spoken in different countries, etc. Look for facts about the EU, who is in charge of the EU, where is it set up, who joined when, what are some of the rules for joining the EU? Remember to make use of all the resources and websites you’ve been given.
You could take inspiration from some of the people who have posted their baking on the blog so far and make some baked goods. Then you could use your baking to work out fractions and percentages for splitting the baking up evenly (or give yourself a bigger fraction!).
If you have taken any pictures you could email them to the school blog, or failing that bring them in on Monday if you want to share what you’ve been up to. Stay wrapped up, enjoy your day and have a fantastic weekend!

Mrs Muir’s igloo

Here is a photo of the igloo we managed to build.  We had great fun pretending to be explorers!  There are two children hiding inside the igloo – can you see them both?  Our secret for making sure it didn’t fall down was to use a picnic table and to put the snow all around it.  I am sure the Inuits don’t use picnic tables when they build proper igloos!

Have fun and stay safe in the snow,

Mrs Muir

Primary 4 snow day 3

Good morning everyone. It is to be another day of snow and keeping warm.
There have been plenty ideas of activities and things to do while you are not at school but incase you are looking for more here some ideas:

1) Continue to complete spelling and reading homework.
2) Using the snow outside make an igloo and take a picture for our blog.
3) Continuing to practice your times tables and division facts for the 6 and 8 times tables using number fact families.

fact families

4) Use an Atlas to find out where the water horse if taking Euan MacGregors father next. Remember it will be travelling from Dundee, here are some clues:

*I am going somewhere South of Dundee
*I am going to need to cross a bridge
*This City has a castle that is built on top of an extinct volcano
*It is South East of Oban

Can you use these clues to figure out where they will be next?

Enjoy your day and have a lovely weekend. Remember to stay safe and warm in this winter weather.

Primary 2 Snow Day 3 Update

Good morning everyone,

I hope you have been having fun in the snow. Thank you for sending in your photos Heather – I love your igloo!

With lots of help I managed to make a big igloo and I will post a photo shortly.

On Friday at school we normally practise our spelling words so please ask someone to read out your words while you write them down. Then try and write a sentence which includes some of your o_e words. You can write them in your homework jotter.

Please keep practising your number bonds (these are numbers which add together to make 10) so that you know them really well. We’ll play our number bond circle game when we are back at school and see what our time is after all your practising.

You could also ask an adult or big brother or sister to test you on your doubles. You can do this while playing outside!

If you have some inside time today it would be great if you could write a story about what you have been doing while off school. Try to use describing words.

I am looking forward to seeing you all soon!

Mrs Muir

Primary 1-Snow Day Number 3

Good Morning Everyone

We hope you’ve been having great fun in the snow! When you are tired of building igloos, snowmen, snow dogs, snow tunnels, having snowball fights or doing snow angels here are a few activities to be getting along with whilst you warm up!

Maths

If you are able to print at home, you could try some of the games attached – all you need is a dice and 2 coloured pencils or 2 coloured bits of paper/ coins as counters.

Four in a row dice game

tell the time board game

Try playing some of the number games we play in school with someone at home.

-Choose any number to start between 1 and 10 and count up to 30 and back down.

-They choose 3 numbers (e.g. 11,12,13) you must say next 3 numbers (e.g. 14,15,16) see how high you can go

-They choose how many claps to do and you count them silently – tell them how many claps they did at the end!

Language

If you have any old magazines/newspapers at home-can you find any of your common words (from your little blue jotter) and cut them out.

Practise clapping the syllables of everyone’s name in your family, even pets or your favourite toys names. e.g. oc-to-nauts!

On a Friday we normally do dictation – see if someone at home can read out a sentence with at least 2 th words and you try to write it down – can you draw a picture to go with it?Remember your finger spaces full stops and capital letter at the beginning!

If you are able to print at home, try out some of these games – you can teach someone at home how to play roll and read!

roll and read cvc game

Four in a row dice game

Other Activities

Practise your cutting skills by folding paper and cutting shapes to create snowflakes.

Practise your letter formation – you could even try some rainbow writing!

P2/3 Snow Day 3

Good morning Primary 2/3! It’s Friday!
Thank you to Rory and Arthur for leaving a comment on our blog. Sounds like you have both been very busy! I see Connor and Safia have sent us in some pictures of their fantastic work. Well done!

Today’s suggested activities:
Look back at my previous post which has a number of other curricular areas ideas and activities you could try.

-Friday is when we do our spelling and sentences with our phonics words. Could both Primary 2 and 3 complete a small spelling test with and adult using your words. Then can you write a sentence for each of the words.
-Friday is also a day we write! Both Primary 2 and 3 could write/draw a diary about what you have been up to over our 3 snow days. I would love to hear about all your activities and adventures.

Enjoy another day in the snow boys and girls! Stay safe and warm!
Miss Rafferty

P2/1 Snow Day 3

Good morning everyone! I hope you are all well and are still enjoying the snow.  Here are a few things you could try out today-

  1. Have a go at writing your spelling words.  Friday is the day we usually do our Elkonin boxes (P2) and dictation sentences.  See if an adult can test you on your words and then think of a sentence you could write with one or two of the words in it.  If you manage this bring it to school or post a picture here.
  2. Write a snowman adventure.  We write on a Friday too so why not imagine that your snowman is magical-what adventure would it go on?  Would you go along too? What would you see/hear/do on  your adventure with your magical snowman?
  3. Draw a picture of what you can see from your bedroom window.
  4. Go out and measure the snow-where in your garden is it deepest?
  5. Draw a picture of yourself in your winter clothes, label what you are wearing.
  6. P2 boy and girls, can you have a go at counting up in 2s for an adult?
  7. P1 boys and girls can you count forwards and backwards from numbers between 0 and 30?
  8. Have a look at the booklets that Mr Shanks posted here in the blog for some other fun activities you can try.

I would love to hear from you to find out what you have been doing and to see if you have managed to have a go at some of the fun activities.  Comment below or if you have any questions leave a comment and I will answer.  I hope you have another fun day and stay safe and warm.

Euro Quiz

The Euro Quiz heat which was due to take place tomorrow has been cancelled. Good news though it is going to be re-scheduled!

Keep researching information to keep it fresh in your minds. Perhaps the Euro quiz team could put up a few questions on the Blog to test the rest of P6? Try multi-step questions where the answer is not just one word but needs an  explanation as well as an answer.

Primary 5 Snow day 2

Good morning Primary 5

I hope you have had lots of fun playing in the snow.  There are plenty of activities from yesterday’s blog that you can still do but if anyone wants more ideas watch the clip below and try to make your own snow sculpture.  I would love to see pictures of your creations.

Primary 3 Snow Day 2!

What an exciting week it has been!

Hope you managed to get out and have a play in the snow yesterday! Similar to yesterday’s activities continue learning your phonic words. Could you write a paragraph using all the words like they do in the phoneme stories we share every Monday?

Lots of opportunities to measure in the garden all the different snow drifts! Who has the longest?

World Book Day today so you could read to a family member or even design a new front cover for your favourite book!

Did you manage to look at different types of armour worn in medieval times? Design armour a knight could wear today! Think about how you could disguise the weapons they use in the armour, make the armour more superhero like?

Build a snowman and dress it up medieval style! Save your pictures to share in class!

Whatever you do stay safe, wrapped up and warm! Have fun!

Mrs Smith and Mr Gordon

Primary 4 Snow Day

Good morning primary 4. I hope you are all keeping warm and safe.

I hope you tried some of the activities I posted yesterday. I can’t wait to see what you have done when we are back at school. Here a few more things you might like to try.

1. Go on a winter walk  looking for animal or bird tracks. When you get home try to find what they were made by.

2. Use books or the computer to find out about countries where it is snowy like this for most of the year. Make a poster with 6 or more interesting facts about this country.

3. Use a ruler or tape measure to measure the depth of snow in different parts of your garden.

4. Make up a 6 or 8 times table quiz for someone else to complete. Mark their answers once they have completed it.

5. Today is World Book Day. You might like to read on of your favourite books and design a new book cover for it. Perhaps you could write a different ending for your favourite book. Alternatively you could turn part of your book into a cartoon strip with speech bubbles. Finally you could even make a snowman like one of the characters.

6. Yesterday I suggested you might like to make up a song with the answers to the 6 or 8 times table in it. You might like to try making up a song to help learn another one.

I hope you are all having fun. Remember we would all like to see what you have done once school is reopened.
