P2 update 20.4.18

It’s lovely to see the sun shining at last and we have taken advantage of it by taking our maths outside this week.  I’ve attached some photos of us measuring outside.  We had to find things which were taller or shorter than 1/2 metre.

Assembly

We hope you can come to our assembly on Tuesday 1 May at  9.15am.  A letter has been sent home – please can you complete the return slip to let us know how many people are likely to be coming?

PE

PE is on a Monday and Thursday.  Monday will always be outside (weather permitting) and Thursday could be outside or inside.  Please could everyone have appropriate PE kit for these days?

I hope you have a sunny weekend!

Hello everyone!

In P7 this week we have been very busy organising our last term in Primary School.
Our Leavers hoodies have arrived and they look great! We also have started planning our Leavers Assembly and we have been allocated parts. We can’t wait to perform it.

In indoor PE we are learning how to play badminton, it is really fun! Mrs Ferguson teaches us on a Wednesday every week.

In writing we are focused on mystery and suspense paragraphs. This week we wrote a paragraph about a haunted house and now they are on the wall with a matching picture.

In Science we have a DCHS transition passport and we have activities to complete to get us ready for high school science.

We have self, peer and the teacher has assessed our WWII projects and they are fantastic! Miss Clark & Mrs Macaulay are really happy with our work! 🙂

Have a great weekend everyone!

Last week primary 1 welcomed a visitor into their classrooms. Brambleberry, a forest elf from Perthshire, came to our school to escape his enchanted forest which is being spoiled by littering. The children have enjoyed showing him their work and listening to him talk about his enchanted forest. This afternoon the children enjoyed creating fairy houses for Brambleberry and his friends to live in. The children worked very hard with their buddies to create these houses and the finished products look great! Thank you so much for providing boxes and materials for this project.
In maths we have been learning about data handling. The children have learnt to count using tally marks and this week have interpreted and created their own pictograms. Please continue to practise counting forwards and backwards to 30 and adding and subtracting within 10 at home.

Hope you all had a lovely weekend in the sun shine!

This week we have handed out phonics homework and maths which is focusing on the 3X table. Don’t forget that the Phonics homework also needs to include 3 sentences that are detailed. The children need to really think about their VCOP choices.

You will also receive a letter about our Tesco Football Challenge that will be taking place next Wednesday 25th April. The letter outlines details of what the children must wear and you need to complete the EE2 form so that your child can go.

Next week we will not be setting homework because of the Lowport Residential however we will still send home their reading books.

PE is on Monday for P3S and Wednesday for P3G.

Have a good week!

Mrs Smith & Mr Gordon

Primary 5 13.4.18

Primary 5 have had a busy first week.  We have started Literacy Circles for reading.  This will require the children to complete a weekly homework task to share with their group.  More details have been given out about this in homework jotters.

This term we will be performing our school show The Pirates of the Curry Bean on the 13th June.  Speaking parts have been given out and children should begin learning these at home.  We still have a lot of work to do on assigning other parts, learning songs and dances which will be happening over the next few weeks.

In Maths we have been working on measure.  Miss Farren’s group have been measuring large objects outdoors in metres while Mrs Jamieson’s group have been working on cm and mm.

Our new PE times are Tuesday for indoor PE and Thursday for outdoor PE.  This term we will be working on Golf and Athletics.

Hello and welcome back after our long Easter holiday!

This week we have been extremely busy. We have started to plan our leavers assembly which will be on Wednesday 27th June at 1.30pm. We have all chosen an area to work on for the leavers assembly and we are really excited for you to see this and celebrate our years at Carmondean.

In PE with Mrs Ferguson we have been focusing on badminton. This week we were practising hitting a shuttlecock and making sure it didn’t fall on the floor. This may sound easy – but it wasn’t! Mrs Macaulay’s class went for their first swimming lesson at DCHS and had a great time! Miss Clark’s class enjoyed playing basketball outside.

In writing we were looking at suspenseful writing. We looked at four main features of creating suspense in our writing. We highlighted these features in a range of texts and then wrote our own suspenseful stories. Next week we will continue to focus on creating tension and suspense in our writing.

In health we have been looking at helpful and unhelpful thinking. We are able to identify types of thinking in certain situations and can give our opinion on how we can change to think more positively.

Primary 6 13.4.18

It true primary six style our first week back has been a busy one! We hope everyone had an enjoyable break and are full of energy for the term ahead! It’s been full speed ahead to prepare our assembly which will take place next Friday. Our classrooms have turned into script writing havens with words and scenes flying about.
“ Space : the final frontier…to boldly go where no man has gone before” . Primary six have begun to explore our solar system . We managed to create a dizzy yet impressive display of sun, earth and moon and their relative orbiting patterns! The pupils asked some interesting questions which we look forward to discovering the answers to over our coming science lessons.
We linked our art lesson this week to our science topic and the pupils created new chocolate bars relating to space , some of their ideas where ‘out of this world’ . Look out Mars and Galaxy bars you may have more rivals.
In maths this week we worked like an Egyptian and looked at how to do sums with hieroglyphs. Pupils had a great time drawing the symbols and doing sums, using all their maths and artistic skills to produce some great hieroglyphs, and some very abstract interpretations of frogs!

Primary 1 Update 12.4.18

Welcome back! We hope everyone had a good Easter break and the children certainly seem well rested and raring to go for our final term in Primary 1.

This week the children have been very excited about the arrival of Brambleberry – a forest elf from an enchanted forest in Perthshire!

They wrote some fantastic descriptions about him using their knowledge of sounds and tried hard to include some wow words. He will be helping them learn lots about the forest including habitats and different types of trees. The children will have the opportunity to design and build their own fairy house with their Primary 7 buddy on Tuesday. Please can you send any materials in that they may wish to use e.g. empty cereal/shoes boxes, clean yogurt cartons/juice bottles or any craft materials to decorate.

In Maths, the children have been gathering and presenting information in different ways e.g. tally marks, pictograms etc. We are also continuing to practise telling o’clock and half past times on digital and analogue clocks.

Primary 1 PE is still on a Thursday and we would be very grateful if you could send the appropriate kit with your child on this day.

Thank you for your continuing support,

Primary 1 Teachers

Our specialist timetable has changed so our indoor P.E slot has now moved to a Thursday morning. We will continue to do our Outdoor P.E lessons on a Monday. Please remember P.E kits on both of these days. The children will also be receiving Art from Ms Fox on a Wednesday.

Primary 3 News 9.4.18

Welcome back! We hope you all had a good Easter break.

We are looking forward to another busy term ahead. Homework has already been given for the week. This term we would like children to attempt to write 3 sentences with their words. We would like the children to use lots of VCOP. This means they need to think about their choice of openers, connectives to extend the sentence and description to make it more interesting.

Reading pages have also been given and maths will be given on a fortnightly basis starting next week. In maths we will be looking at our 3 and 4 timetables as well as money so if you want to practice with your children that would be great!

PE kit is needed on the following days:

P3S: Monday/Tuesday

P3G: Tuesday/Wednesday

Don’t forget our Lowport Residential meeting taking place this Wednesday evening.

Have a good week!

Primary 3 News 19th March

What a busy week we had last week!

I’m sure you will all agree that the P3 Assembly was a huge success and the children were all absolute stars! Thank you for coming to that and a big thank you for attending our banquet on Friday. Photos to follow! It was a brilliant opportunity for you all to see how hard the children have worked this term on their topic and how much it has motivated them!

Tomorrow we will be visiting Edinburgh Castle and judging by today’s weather I think it will be a little cold! So lots of layers needed and appropriate footwear along with school uniform. Also a packed lunch if you did not preorder one with the school.

As it is the last week of term there will be no homework this week. Weather permitting we will still be hoping to get out for some PE so please send in kit on the relevant days and football will be taking place on Tuesday.

Will update you on Tuesday with details of our trip and photos of all events!

Have a good week!
