Last week P1 received a special delivery from a professor in Canada needing our help. He sent us an egg he discovered while digging for dinosaur fossils. As he was so busy he asked if we would monitor it for him in different conditions and report back with our findings. Of course we were very up for the challenge and decided to pack it carefully and first of all put it beside the window in our classroom!

Last week P1F walked over to the High School to take a look at how our new school campus is developing. We could see the nursery and P1 classrooms from the platform. Mr Widdowson showed us lots of photographs of the work being carried out and Mrs Howie showed us the plans.
P1F have been learning about healthy eating and the benefits of eating a healthy breakfast. We have also been learning some vocabulary in our French work, of which some words were rather familiar! So we decided to join the learning and have a French breakfast in class. We practiced our vocabulary and then had to ask for the items we would like in French! Next we rated each item of food and decided we would love to go to France!!
Last week P1F were visited by a group of talented writers from P7 who entertained them by reading their own version of the Gruffalo in Scots. P1 really enjoyed it and they also loved their illustrations. P1 then decided to entertain the P7’s by reciting the Scots poem they had learned! Thanks P7 and please come back soon!
Recently P1 have been learning about Winter. We enjoyed investigating ice by looking closely at our ‘ice balloons’ including adding some salt, food colouring and floating it in hot and cold water! We also wrote stories about a snowman, had fun printing snowscenes and snowmen and also created a cold winter tree scene.
A fun time was had by all at our party this afternoon!
On Monday afternoon P1 invited family and friends to come along to their Christmas Craft Sale. The previous week they had been very busy making various items using lots of glitter, tissue, snowflakes and pompoms! It was very busy and everything was sold out! We would like to thank all the parents, relatives and friends for coming along and supporting us! We are pleased to announce we have raised £174.12 which will be going towards a class trip.
This term P1 have been learning about forces through our topic on Toys. We enjoyed a great afternoon outside working on various activities involving forces. At two of the stations we had to work in a team or with a partner to make objects move by pushing and pulling. It was quite tricky at times and we really had to think how we could use some of the materials given.

Last week P1 were learning how to cross the road safely and the importance of being seen at night. We all went to cross Southwick Road with the help of Mrs Widdowson and discussed the Green Cross Code. We also discussed alternative ways of crossing the road safely; for example using the traffic lights on the High Street.

P1 recently learned about the importance of hand hygiene. We put ‘pretend’ germs on our hands, washed them and then looked to see how well we had actually washed them by looking in the ultra violet light! We learned you should wash your hands for 15 seconds and germs are hard to get rid of!!
We also had a visit from Paula Muir from Child Smile who gave us lots of advice about looking after our teeth. We all brushed our teeth for 2 minutes and enjoyed listening to a story.
At the end of last term we had an open afternoon to share or learning and play lots of phonics games with our parents and grandparents. We had great fun and would like to thank them all for coming!
