Welcome back! Our class are going to be moving to a different platform to share our work, achievements and events. On Wednesday your child will bring home a letter explaining how to connect to their P1 Class Dojo Story. They will also be given their house name which they require if they would like to enter the Lions Club Christmas window display competition.
It was a busy last week of term as we enjoyed more number activities outside, playing games in the classroom and the open area; where we are very good at organising ourselves. We really love working on the Activboard and are great at taking turns!
We also interviewed Mrs Widdowson, one of our janitors and Mrs Duncan about their role in school and how they help us. We painted clowns as part of our sound work, made cute bears with Mrs Harris and worked very well in pairs on a maths activity. We also had time for a dance or two – of course! Finally the children brought home the sounds we have learned so far typed out so they could make their own set of flashcards at home.
This week we began Monday morning with a numeracy activity for Maths Week Scotland outside and finished with our sponsored walk. Photographs for both can be found on the Dalbeattie Primary School Facebook page. Other activities included learning new sounds, painting the mouse from the Gruffalo, sharing our stories, creating a class graph of our shoe sizes, pattern work, ordering numbers and playing co-operatively. The children also brought home their Glow e-mails and other passwords as well as their Word Box 1. I look forward to receiving your e-mails – details in the letter sent home.
This week we learned more about our senses using them to explore the playground. We drew pictures with a partner and also took some rubbings. We looked at a large model ear and also tested our sense of smell! We learned the sounds ‘o’, ‘g’ and ‘f’ – finger painting an octopus, making a go-kart with split pin wheels and using craypas to pattern a ‘fabulous fish’. We also made the Gruffalo with Mrs Harris and we continue to enjoy playing in our open area. This week please look out for your child bringing home their Word Box 1 and Glow Log in details.
This week we finished our lovely shell pictures inspired from the story ‘Sharing a Shell’ with Mrs Harris. We love a bit of glitter in P1!
We continue to practice our numbers and and sounds with various activities where we really enjoy using the ActivBoard. We hope you like the ‘dotty dinosaurs’ we brought home!
We had a fun ‘skeleton scavenger hunt’ outside in groups where we had to find all the jigsaw pieces and put them together. We also began our work on the senses and used the magnifying glasses to really look at things closely in the playground!
This week coming (Monday 21st) please keep an eye out for your child bringing home their new Word Wall 1. We have been working on these words in class and it would be most beneficial to now practice these at home with your child. There is also an accompanying letter. Finally could all sweatshirts/cardigans please be named as we are being left with several each day and not sure who they belong to. Thanks.
This week we have been revising our 2D shapes, representing numbers in different ways including the use of Numicon, working in groups to sort items by colour and then by size or type, learning the sounds ‘r’ and ‘m’ where we made a Robin, learning about the ‘body’ ….and if you look closely we had a dance with Fred the skeleton and finally enjoying our weekly yoga session!
This week we had great fun working with Mrs Harris our art specialist who teaches us every Wednesday this term and also Mrs Gray who teaches P.E. every Tuesday. Click to enlarge images.
We were also busy in class learning our new sounds and so far we have covered a p t n i s. I will continue to put our new sounds learned in the window so children can complete their follow up sheet at home. We have also been counting, practising our number formations, listening carefully in drama to perform moves, listening to stories and playing with our friends!
We have had another busy week! We have been learning new letters, practising our numbers; including making up our own games, taking turns to play games and being creative with our construction toys.
Points to note. Please see the main page to look at the new lunch menu starting on Monday 31st August along with the latest newsletter. Our class continues to come dressed for P.E. on a Tuesday for Mrs Gray. Mr Caldow will be in class every Tuesday afternoon and will dismiss the class at 2.50pm. Lastly could all sweatshirts please have your child’s name clearly labelled. Thanks!
We have had a busy time so far in P1 these first 2 weeks and are settling in really well! We have been drawing, colouring, cutting, painting, doing some yoga moves, playing and been busy making new friends!
