We have named our music bus! 28.02.24

‘The Big Notes Bus’ stopped at Glasgow today during our music session with Feis Rois.  We learnt how to sing ‘The Jeely Piece Song’ and played musical games.

Super badminton skills in PE today and yesterday too.  We will play whenever we can over the next few weeks.

Drama Skills 23.1.24

We have started a block of work developing drama skills. Children are using mime and improvisation to create different freeze frames. We are using the stimulus of friendship for some of our learning.

Can you spot the friends sharing a story round the camp fire, friends sharing a special handshake, friends creating friendship bracelets?

can you spot the cars, elephants, teapots and castles that the children created in groups?

Music Making
Over the last few weeks we have been working on developing a sense of rhythm. We have used body percussion and then moved on to drumming. Today we played along to Chilli Pipers  tune. The children were all fantastic at this.

Change to PE starting December 5th.

Numeracy – Multiplication.

It is time to learn our times tables facts again! P4/5 are trying active and fun ways to play with the patterns in times tables to learn their facts.  They can show you their number lines, star patterns and even a few tricks.  Wish them luck with their challenges.

Science, Engineering and Technology – Kinetic Energy.

We are learning about energy this term.  We have talked about the 8 different forms of energy, and discussed how it is not created or destroyed, but transferred.  This week we investigated kinetic energy.  Inspired by the Dalbeattie firework display, we drew rockets and gave them kinetic energy with balloons.  Ask your young person what they know so far.  Super teamwork everyone!

Handwriting(Mrs Duncan)

P4/5 have had great fun using new writing resources to reinforce handwriting. Writing on widows, desks and outdoors with chalk.

Thursday 28th September – Home Learning

On Monday, we learnt how to create an arcade game with block coding.  Have a go at making a new maze game, and then describe it in a piece of writing using your descriptive bubbles.

Your descriptors are,

  1. colour
  1. shape
  1. size
  1. number
  1. position
  1. doing
  1. texture

MakeCode Arcade

When coding your new project remember to name it, and follow this coding algorithm.  Your sprite will need to be 24×24 or smaller to fit the maze.  If you do not want to be on a screen, or you do not have a device available, you can draw a maze, or build a 3D maze with objects and then write about it.  Good luck.

Your algorithm is…within the green start block,

  • Set background colour to (     )
  • set tilemap to ’tilemap’  (     ) (remember to add a 2 tile thick path and the walls to make it 3D)
  • set my sprite to ‘sprite’ of kind ‘player’
  • place ‘my sprite’ on top of random (      )    (You can use the stone gate in these brackets).
  • move ‘my sprite’ with buttons
  • camera follow sprite ‘my sprite’
  • start countdown (    ) s  (You can set it to 14 seconds)

Add a new block,

  • on ‘sprite’ of kind ‘player’ overlaps (    ) at location (You can add a treasure chest here)

Insert within this block,

  • game over.

Maths Week Scotland Challenge.  Give it a go!

If you run out of things to do there are activities on the main page set by Mrs. Duncan.  You were sent home a worksheet named ‘European Day of Languages Colour by Number’.  If you find it hard to find a digital device, you can colour this, and find out which countries the flags belong to.

Please share your work (fun daily activities) by e-mailing photos or a few words to me each day using my e-mail address (above).

Have a wonderful Thursday and I will look forward to seeing all of your lovely faces tomorrow.

We are going to design an app to help people manage their own emotions.  For example, if you feel angry, the app would calm you, or if your felt sad, the app would cheer you up.  Have a think about a few ideas for an app design that would achieve this.  What calms you or makes you happy?  You could use these ideas.  We will code the app next week at school.

If you run out of things to do there are activities on the main page set by Mrs. Duncan.  You were sent home a worksheet named ‘European Day of Languages Colour by Number’.  If you find it hard to find a digital device, you can colour this, and find out which countries the flags belong to.

Learn your spellings in an active way.  Why not pick one of the following ideas to try…

ABC Order – First write your spelling words in a list.  Then write them in ABC order.  For an extra bonus, write your words in reverse ABC order!

Squiggly Spelling Words – You are going to write your spelling words two times.  First write them in regular letters, then write them again in squiggly letters.

Sumdog – You can also play the spelling games on Sumdog that are set for your own spelling list.

You can read your reading books that were sent home yesterday over the next three days.

Health ad Well being

We have been watching the movie ‘Inside Out’ to think about our own emotions, and how we manage them.  Today you can focus on joy.  Joy is a positive emotion that we all like to feel.  We all have different experiences and objects that make us happy.  Draw a picture, with a caption, that illustrates what makes you joyful.

Have a wonderful day, I look forward to seeing what you do.
