Code Club

Our very first Code Club at Dalbeattie Primary started this session. Mrs Dyson and Mr Muirhead have been amazed with the digital programming skills that the first Code Clubbers have developed already. Code Clubbers have worked collaboratively in this after school club to create their own musical Rock Band, a Lost in Space animation and this week, they created their own Ghostbusters catching game.

Terrific Transformations in Primary 5

Our topics this term are ‘Meet our Team’ and the ‘Wonderful World of Roald Dahl’. We celebrated the 100th Anniversary of Roald Dahl’s birthday. Mrs Dyson was amazed at our Roald Dahl character transformations (remember to click on each photo to see the full size version). We are looking forward to sawing wood to make the photo frames for our Enterprise Project next.

Westsound School of The Week

Westsound’s Tommy Jardine visited school this week to record interviews with a  group of our children. The children talked about their friends at school, their favourite subjects and what they want to be when they are older. There were, of course, some good jokes too! The children will be broadcast in the morning and afternoon of the week beginning 10th October (the week before the school holidays.)

Pattern Hunt

We went on a pattern hunt to the park.  We were pattern detectives and took binoculars and magnifying glasses to help us.  We were amazed at how many patterns there are around us.  We all got a chance to use the cameras to take photos of what we found – and we took quite a few pictures of our feet and the ground as well!  Below are some of the pictures that we took ourselves.

This week we are beginning our Autumn topic with a walk in the woods on Wednesday and we are concluding our Elmer topic with an Elmer Day celebration on Thursday.

Sponsored Walk

What a fantastic day for a walk in the woods. All classes participated in  sponsored walks through Dalbeattie town woods today. P4-P7 set out on their walk this morning and covered approximately 2.7 miles with a snack stop on route. P1-3 had an afternoon walk covering approximately 1.7 miles.  Sponsor money raised from this event will  to go towards the cost of transport for school trips and visits this session. A huge thank you to all parents who joined us for the walks and to P7 Sports Captains and Vice Captains for their help with P1-3 and the afternoon walk.

Elmer the Elephant

This week we have started to follow the adventures of Elmer the Elephant, who is a colourful character from the popular stories by David McKee.  We have been using these stories to learn about colour.  We have particularly enjoyed the colour treasure hunts in the garden and filling large elephants with paint in the playground.  In nursery we have been making a large collage of Elmer for the wall, as well as little elephants of our own.  We have played games to help us learn our colours and have sung colour related songs.  We are looking forward to finding out more about Elmer next week, and investigating pattern next.
