Dalbeattie Primary had a treat at their usual Friday afternoon awards ceremony when folk group ‘Haggerdash’ visited to entertain the pupils and staff. They performed a collection of traditional Scots songs and tunes where they had the children joining in with singing and actions too! ‘Haggerdash’ are currently in Dalbeattie as part of the ‘Dalbeattie Folktober’ Festival. They will be playing at a family concert in the hall on Burn Street, Dalbeattie at 3pm on Saturday 8th October. Children under 12 will get in free. Other folk performers will be ‘The Camden Quine’ (Carol Anderson) and ‘Finbar Magee and Breige Quinn.’

Final P7 Transition Group
The final group of P7 pupils visited Mrs Houston in the Hospitality Department at Dalbeattie High school today. The groups have all made carrot cake muffins and had their first real experiences of a secondary class and what the expectations will be in secondary school. We look forward to further transition events throughout the year linking in with different curricular areas and departments.

Westsound School of The Week
Westsound’s Tommy Jardine visited school this week to record interviews with a group of our children. The children talked about their friends at school, their favourite subjects and what they want to be when they are older. There were, of course, some good jokes too! The children will be broadcast in the morning and afternoon of the week beginning 10th October (the week before the school holidays.)

P7 Transition
Primary 7 pupils have started some transition work with the Home Economics Department at Dalbeattie High school. Pupils have been attending the High School on a Tuesday afternoon in small groups along with peers from our cluster schools. The children have been working with Mrs Houston during these visits to make carrot cake muffins. During the visits, the children are also experiencing what it is like to be in a secondary class/school environment and the expectations of the Home Economics Department. Thank you to Mrs Houston for supporting us with this transition work. We are hoping to visit the department again later on in the school session.
